Accutane lips

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane lips

accutane

Avatar n tn The best cream is Aquafor , you can use it on your lips, face and hands. You can get it at any rite aid, duane reade or cvs, I wouldn't use the Elizabeth Arden stuff, (Unless it's fragrance free and hyper allergenic) because it's best to stay away from lotions that have fragrance. I was on accutane and I used all fragrance free items, dove unscented, aveeno face lotion for sensitive skin (with pink cap) etc.
Avatar n tn However my extremely flaky/seemingly dry lips remain. Am I right in thinking that the lips are caused by having taken 40 mg a day of accutane for 5 mths up until April of 09, or could they be a result of my seborrheic dermatitis? I had the flaking on the lips before accutane but i was also using 400 mg a day of doxycycline for 4 yrs. prior to accutane so that could have been causing the dryness?
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar m tn A bit concerned. My lips are not great but I got a lip chap for men. I also feel lethargic, exhausted for no reason, low energy, and head aches. The odd upset stomach too. Can someone inform me?
Avatar m tn Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
Avatar n tn I am aware of the short term effects of accutane (chapped lips, blured vision etc) but can someone enlighten me on what can possibly happen in the long run with my health after i take this drug?
Avatar n tn My daughter is on accutane and has extremly dry, cracked and bloody hands and lips, and her face is very dry. We have tried many different ointments and other lotions, nothing is working. What do you think we should use?
Avatar n tn My 15-year old son is in his 4th month of Accutane. He just completed his 3rd day of football practice and is experiencing severe pain in his hips. He insists that the pain is not muscular. (He is an avid cyclist and has ridden over 100 miles on his bicycle and competed in Olympic distance triathlons, so he understands muscular-related pain.) So, what could be causing the hip pain and/or do you think that there is a high probability that it is related to the Accutane? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Avatar n tn Face products? Any of those can cause drier lips. I use good old vasoline when mine get bad. I was on Accutane for a while for acne that dried my lips to a crisp and cracked them badly and kept gobs of vasoline on them. There's nothing better than vasoline! AND it's cheap. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I have experienced a mild form of eczema on my lips for some time now. I was treating it with Protopic ointment. It seemed to work for a while, as long as I was using it every day. However my question involves the inner part of my bottom and upper lip. It forms a rough whitish skin that compels me to bite at it or pick at it. Is this rough white skin (that appears to be dead skin by the way) part of the eczema that is affecting the part of my lips on the inside of my mouth?
Avatar m tn I'm currently on day 8 of using Accutane. I'm already experiencing back pain and very dry and cracking lips. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn What you are having are side effects of the drug Accutane and when you are taking Accutane, you should avoid going out in the sun. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
1518347 tn?1290837751 Hi there.. I am currently on my way to the 2nd month of my Accutane course. I take 10mg 3x a day for my acne. On the first month, I was experiencing rashes at the back of my hands, dry lips, nose bleeds and other minor symptoms. But now, as I'm approaching my second month. I have these weird feeling in my stomach.. It is not painful in any way but it make me feel very uncomfortable. I feel full and it is always bloated. Should I be worried about this? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar n tn However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So your son should take between 30mg and 60mg per day because he weighs about 60kg.
Avatar f tn I eventually went on Accutane - I have VERY mixed feelings about this med - it DID get rid of the acne. . .but the dry skin, dry eyes, bleeding lips, etc. were very painful. In addition, it also has damaging effects on the liver and kidneys as well - my once very low cholesterol shot up about 200 pts. I now suffer from severe arthritis which I believe I can attribute to the accutane.
Avatar m tn Over the last four days I have noticed a series of very small amber/flesh-colored dots appear across my lips. They started in the lower left corner of my lip and are now spread evenly across my lower lip and along the lower edges of my upper lip. At this point I highly doubt they are cold sores, as they have not developed into large, fluid-filled blisters (which they should have by now). I talked to my dermatologist on day two and he could not identify them.
Avatar n tn Accutane can also affect hair, lips, eyes, nose and vagina. Skin can be fragile for up to 6 months after finishing Accutane. However, it is very unusual to still be experiencing vaginal dryness after a year. Have you changed anything else, method of birth control for example? Using a fruit-flavored lubricant will make it feel more sexy and less clinical than using something like KY Jelly. Make an appointment with your doctor, as it is unusual for this problem to persist after stopping Accutane.
Avatar m tn I'm having the same thing happen. It's been about two months and the redness is not going away. At first I thought that it was because I've been on two rounds of accutane, and there's going to be a lil chappedness now and then but now I'm thinking it's probably a bacterial or fungal infection since it's not going away and it's spreading. As an post-accutane user I'm sure we're more suseptable to infection because the lips get damaged so easily.
Avatar m tn My dermatologist has prescribed me Isotretinoin (Accutane) around 20 mg. However i feel uneasy and very worried because i had read the following medical research papers where it tells the harmful side effects Isotretinoin has such as teratogenic and more importantly the cause of eye disorders, like impaired night vision, cataracts, optic neuritis, corneal opacities and dry eye. I had check in PubMed about this and i encountered the following http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10746459.
Avatar m tn Hi. I had extremely dry lips due to Accutane therapy. The best remedy I found was Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. It's a bit expensive but is very concentrated and a small amount goes a long way. Eloise.
Avatar f tn So yesterday I waxed mu upper lip with those hair removal strips things, not knowing that I shouldn't do that while I'm on accutane. It probably stripped the skin off and now I'm left with a HUGE bright red mustache above my lips, and It hasn't gotten better since last night. I tried ice and some creams but nothing seems to be working. I don't even know if it's an allergy or a burn and if it's even going to heal! How can I get rid of it fast?
Avatar n tn The accutane reduced the cysts but made my skin very dry, particularly on my forehead and lips. I stopped using accutane due to the side effects and basically gave up on my skin. For the next two years my forehead continued to have very dry, dead looking skin on it and my skin had moderate-severe acne. I am now out of college and over the past year, I tried using an exfoliating cleanser along with duac gel and finacea as well as doxycycline as an antibiotic.
Avatar n tn i am in my 4th month of Accutane and so far love it! i have the dry lips and some soreness of my back but i cant totally blame it on accutane as I was in a severe car accident a year ago..
Avatar n tn One dermatologist suggested that I might try fractal laser on my lips to get rid of the spots on the lips themselves, but I personally am more concerned with the redness and inflammation around my mouth, and it seems to me that the redness around my mouth has been getting worse every year now. My job requires me to be in the sun for numerous hours a day, which I have done for the last 4 years, so maybe the sun has something to do with the condition.
