accutane

Avatar f tn I have noticed a difference in my skin, but I’m still having quite a bit of peeling. How long does the peeling last for?
Avatar n tn i)The patient has not taken Accutane at a high enough dose, or not taken it for long enough. The recommended dose is 0.5 to 1mg X kg patients bodyweight per day for 16 to 24 weeks. ii)The patient is female and has an underlying hormonal imbalance which is causing the acne such as PCOS. Females are more likely to relapse than males. iii)The patient is using an oral or topical drug which induces acne such as the progestogen-only pill or steroids. Eloise.
Avatar m tn From what I have read on the internet, most sites say thst Accutane can lead to premature epipihyseal closure of the long bones. However my question is,other than the epiphysis of the long bones, can Accutane possibly also lead to premature fusion of bones other than the long bones, such as the cranial sutures of the skull? Or is this side effect reserved to the long bones?
Avatar n tn Hi. I experienced bad headaches when I started Accutane but, along with some of the other sides effects such as muscle pain, they decreased as my body got used to the medication. For dry lips I recommend Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, it is much better than Vaseline. Eloise.
Avatar m tn For acne, I was prescribe 6 months of accutane - which did wonders for my facial/body acne. However, in the last couple of years I have struggled with controlling back acne. For sweating, when I was 20 I received botox injections in my forhead and armpits - which worked well. Not amazingly, but helped for sure. I had been getting injections every 6 months.
Avatar m tn * Mepacrine or Plaquenil (Lupus meds- but recently there have been good success rate for post-Accutane flushers as long as you are not prone to Psoriasis). * Topical Rozex or Finacea. * Also try to stay away from foods high in Vit A- adding any further retinol to your system is likely to increase flushing, redness etc * For dryness you might want to look into Borage oil, but stay away from Omegas as many other post-accutane flushers find it worsens things and we don't know why.
Avatar n tn The thing is my mom is a bit scared because of what she has heard about the possible long term effects of accutane. Is it true that the drug can cause serious liver damage etc? I am aware of the short term effects of accutane (chapped lips, blured vision etc) but can someone enlighten me on what can possibly happen in the long run with my health after i take this drug?
Avatar n tn i know this is long overdue, but to anyone else who might stumble upon this I'd like to tell them that I did try threading while on accutane (in the first month) and it hurt like hell. Usually threading doesnt hurt for me, but because the skin was so dry (even with tons of moisturizer and what-not) but I think the thread actually ripped my skin off. It was red for days and anything on it (like makeup and soap) would make it sting even more.
Avatar n tn Dr.: I have had mild to moderate acne for over 15 years. I am now 28 and am pretty discouraged. I have tried everything there is. All the antibiotics and topicals. My acne rarely got bad, but I almost always seem to have a few zits, few ingrown hairs, few blackheads, and a few inflamed whiteheads. I do have periods when I am pretty clear, but this usually only lasts a few days. My dermatologist decided it was time to give accutane a try.
Avatar f tn oh how interesting.. i was in my 20s and took roacutane for acne.. now 25 years later i have been diagnosed with sjogrens and other autoimmune diseases.. i always believed those tablets did me harm.. at the time my eyes were dry and skin too... was told to stay out the sun and that my mucus membranes would temporarily dry out... fast forward to now... years after stoppin the tablets.. and this is what i am left with.. .is there a proven link i wonder??
Avatar n tn If that is the case, the doctor could have treated it with something other than accutane. How long have you been off accutane and how long have you been treated for depression/anxiety? Was it during the time you were on accutane or once off of it? My gut feeling is that once the accutane is completely out of your system, your depression and anxiety will get back to where they were before.
Avatar n tn Your dermatologist will decide if you warrant accutane based on the presentation of your acne and how much it affects you psychologically. Never buy prescription medicine online. A flashy website does not guarantee a safe or genuine product. At best it will be a placebo and you will have wasted a lot of money. At worst it could seriously harm you. You could be taking anything! As Dr. Rockoff says, if accutane is used for mild acne the condition often returns within months of stopping treatment.
Avatar f tn Accutane results in long-term remission rather than a permanent cure and a second or third course may be indicated for about 20% of patients. Please read my advice on the Acne Forum, and read my Roaccutane journal.
Avatar m tn ve just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.
Avatar n tn I took accutane for about 3-4 months, but I've been off of it for over a year. Before I took accutane, I was constantly wet - I would actually have to change underwear once or twice a day. I had an extremely high libido and orgasmed quickly. While on accutane, if my boyfriend and I would try to have sex, it would be so dry it felt like sandpaper and I would end up convulsing with tears it was so painful and frustrating. I thought it would change...
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I am currently using Oratane 20g ths is my 4th week n my lips r so dry n I think its taking forever n ma skin is getting better tho. How long r ma lips gona be like this cz dy r so pink n I look weird...
Avatar m tn m 34 Yrs old and I have an oily skin, due to a return of light acne, that takes a long time, my doctor prescribed to me CURACNE 10 mg (equ. to ACCUTANE). 1. is it risky to live in a tropical climate under the above described condition, Knowing that almost the time I have to work at office? 2. Can Accutane help me at that climate conditions?
Avatar m tn my son began taking generic accutane at age 15yrs, 9mos. within weeks of beginning treatment, his hair, which is naturally thick and only slightly wavy, turned *severely* curly - you'd swear he got a perm. i've read accounts of others online who say that their hair turned *slightly* curly after starting accutane, but to go from almost straight to *ringlets* do to it?? or could it be a coincidence - maybe his hair was in the process of turning curly due to adolescence?
Avatar f tn Hi Michelle! Just wondering what ever came of your situation? I'm on accutane now (40mg/day; 3rd week) and am suffering the worst gas, tummy rumbles (loud!), and both constipation/ diarrhea. I'm getting scared that I've permanently damaged my intestines/gut and am trying to hear back from other people that have gone through similar things. i wish there was more information readily available/ easily referenced on it. i've found lots of stories from people, but no data.
Avatar m tn Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
Avatar m tn I am a 6'1 85 kg male who has been on accutane for 120 days (4 months). I started on 20 mg a day month 1, 40 mg month 2, and 60 mg months 3 and 4. 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
Avatar n tn So strange how the accutane takes a beating on our bodies. I have that same issue in my right arm as well. I found that odd. I have been doing acupuncture and it has helped with the muscle pain where it is very sore. Ice packs have helped as well. I have been doing physical therapy as well. Can i ask how come they had you on it for a year? They have like a 5 month and 6 month rule here.
Avatar n tn Does accutane effect long bone growth? What type of dosage may have an impact on this? This discussion is related to Accutane's Effect Upon Skull Size.
Avatar n tn After reading this site I have the EXACT thing as described above so I feel much better that it is from the Accutane. Although, DOES ANYONE know how to get this side affect under control? It hurts like hell to walk unless I wear whitey tighty underwear which I hate.
