Common Questions and Answers about Accutane health problems

accutane

Avatar m tn I am a 6'1 85 kg male who has been on accutane for 120 days (4 months). I started on 20 mg a day month 1, 40 mg month 2, and 60 mg months 3 and 4. 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
Avatar m tn Your son needs to be WELL Aware of the possible problems should be be sexually active while on accutane or for about a month afterward becuase if a person is on accutane and gets pregnant or gets someone pregnant there is a high risk of birth defects/deformities because of the type of medication it is. You'll need to stress to him the importance of using protection should he make that choice.
Avatar f tn Hi. Accutane increases the risk of liver problems so avoid too much alcohol whilst taking this medicine. Eloise.
Avatar m tn weight loss ( I was up to 160 right before accutane, lost 20-25 pounds in less than 2 months right after I stopped accutane, and am down to 120 currently) I feel like I have no muscle or fat on me. I'm always hungry but I can't gain a pound.
Avatar n tn If that is the case, the doctor could have treated it with something other than accutane. How long have you been off accutane and how long have you been treated for depression/anxiety? Was it during the time you were on accutane or once off of it? My gut feeling is that once the accutane is completely out of your system, your depression and anxiety will get back to where they were before.
Avatar f tn I'm at a loss. I've had major problems with acne (just the face) and just finished taking Accutane. Consequently, I was recently diagnosed with anxiety and depression (unrelated to the Accutane as I had issues before) so have started Lexapro and Clonazapam. I live in KS, have pets, hike somewhat frequently, and an 24 and otherwise healthy. A few weeks ago, I started developing little clusters of bumps.
Avatar f tn I was on Accutane for 6 months @ 20mg daily. I have been off for 7 months and the pain in my joints and bones has only gotten worse! I'm worried the drug is still in my body as I'm STILL suffering all the symptoms (dry eyes, dry/itchy scalp, joint/bone pain). PLEASE help me! I used to be an athelete. I had to quit all physical activity including my waitressing job because I simply cannot move. A stroll in the park leaves me stiff and aching.
Avatar f tn I would not reccomend accutane is she is planing on becoming pregnant in the next 5 years. Plus it will only be a quick fix, i'd try a natropath to se what the underlying cause of the acne might be ( horomone inbalance, allergy to something...
Avatar m tn I have taken a single course of roaccutane for 6months but with low doses and i have stopped this medictation 2years ago and thank god i have no problems with my digestive system but i have read alot about the IBS & IBD and that they are linked to accutane and that any accutane taker will develop IBS or IBD this is true??? and if what can i do to prevent this??
Avatar n tn The pain began in my lower back and progressed to all my joints and entire back. When my dermatologist learned of my problems, she stopped the Accutane immediately. She stated back pain was a side effect. I read all the info before taking Accutane, and it never described these symptoms in 2001. When I was 30 years old, I had back surgery and it destroyed my back. A doctor at Emory University saw my pre-op MRI and determined I should never have had surgery in the first place.
Avatar n tn I had to stop taking accutane halfway through my treatment. I was 10 weeks into the course. I had to stop for 5 weeks due to elevated enzymes. It is now safe to resume treatment. Does the break in treatment mean that I will have to restart the whole course? My derm says that I should be able to resume the course at the 10-week mark. I am worried that the accutane will not be effective due to the 5 week break in the middle of the treatment. I would be grateful for your opinion on this. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hello there, Im a 26 years old and may be 4 - 6 weeks pregnant. I have done a couple of home pregnancy test which all tested positive. My OB/Gyn appointment is not until next week. My husband is currently taking Accutane and had been on the medication for 4 months and counting. I've read that while taking Accutane, women are strictly advised against getting pregnant as it causes serious birth defects. Is it the same case for man taking Accutane?
Avatar n tn I can contribute all of these problems to Accutane. I did not become sexually active until after I was off the medication so I really don't have a comparison for how enjoyable sex can be. I can tell you, I don't really enjoy it because of the dryness and lack of excitement and I really wonder if that is due to the long-term effects of Accutane causing the dryness and libido problems.
546892 tn?1214525401 Before begining treatment with Accutain, an individual should discuss about his condition with the health care provider for the possible accutane benefits and side effects in order to get it clear whether the treatment is right. Accutain is used in the treatment of the severest of acne cases which haven't responded to all other types of acne treatments.
8812528 tn?1400857632 I'm on Accutane and to use the medicine I have to get my blood work done every month. Since being on Accutane my triglycerides have been acting up. The first 3/4 months I was mid to high 200's, but this past month I was at 733.
Avatar m tn 25 first 6months, 0.5 mg for one year and 1 mg for 1 year till today), In october 2016 my derm put me on accutane 10 mg and minoxiline(100mg) for treating my mild acne, I had been drinking heavily for 5 days before starting my accutane course, 10 days into the course, I started to have Gyno(Unilateral, right breast with a movable tender lump), I dropped accutane and minoxiline and also propecia after 23 days.
Avatar m tn after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible
Avatar f tn Tomorrow will mark day 4 that I am late on my period. I took Accutane from approximately July 20th-August 20th, then got off of it for about a week, and got back on it around August 28th. I was supposed to have my period on Sept. 3rd, and have never been late before. I've been a day early on a few occasions, but never 4 days late. I was wondering if anyone knows if Accutane could effect my menstrual cycle. Thank you.
Avatar n tn By all means discuss this with your dermatologist and share your frustration. There are other options besides Accutane. If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication. When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.
Avatar n tn As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane. Immediately after staring the Accutane, I noticed the tiny bumps under my eyes were lessening. After a month they were completely gone. Now, my dermatologist is second guessing her diagnosis of syringoma for she does not think they would go away so quickly with the Accutane. She now thinks they were just cysts. What do you think?
Avatar f tn Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
Avatar f tn Which they have pulled from the market. Any one else have the same problems from 10 yrs ago of using Accutane and what did you do to manage the IBS and stomach issues??
Avatar m tn 25 first 6months, 0.5 mg for one year and 1 mg for 1 year till today), In october 2016 my derm put me on accutane 10 mg and minoxiline(100mg) for treating my mild acne, I had been drinking heavily for 5 days before starting my accutane course, 10 days into the course, I started to have Gyno(Unilateral, right breast with a movable tender lump and water like fluid discharge when pressed), I dropped accutane and minoxiline and also propecia after 23 days.
Avatar f tn t seem like it is enough for my son, though. His fingers and feet are still hurting. He started Accutane (20/every other day) in September. I am just trying to figure out if anything is connected and if we should be doing anything else. I don't figure we would give him any Raynaud's meds, even if they were offered by a doctor, but I would hate to not notice if he has some other illness.
