Common Questions and Answers about Accutane dosage information

accutane

Avatar f tn My daughter has been on Accutane for 2 months. While her acne is mild, we put her on this due to my hx of cystic acne at age 22 which was completely responsive to accutane. My question is , she has not seen much change . She is still breaking out, and states zits are larger than in past, but do reslve more quickly She was on accutane once in past with immediate response in first month. Dr just increased dosage. What can we expect in terms of response?
Avatar m tn I heard the effectivesnees of accutane is increased with a twice daily dosage. True? I will be taking 40mg a day, once a day. Would it be better to take 20 mg twice a day? Also, is it ok to take glucosamine for my joints while on accutane? Lastly, should I be getting a monthly blood test? Or any other precautionary measures?
Avatar m tn ve just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.
Avatar f tn We have seen a dermotologist (under guidance of his Oncologist) and been prescribed Accutane. My question is concerning his taking the Accutane along with his chemo meds. He is on a daily dosage of Mercurprine (6-MP), 3 times weekly Ceptra, once monthly Vincristine and Methotrexate 5 days a month. Would there be any drug interaction between all these Leukemia drugs and the Accutane?
Avatar m tn hi! i've just stumbled across your post. i hope you did find answers to your questions eventually. i'm on my 3rd week of accutane and am experiencing the same ibs issues and am freaked out that i'm really messing up my body by taking the accutane. my doctor took down my dosage to every other day, but i'm leaning towards getting off of it completely. because i'm still having the symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have taken Accutane and experienced joint and muscle pain. However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day.
Avatar n tn Does accutane effect long bone growth? What type of dosage may have an impact on this? This discussion is related to Accutane's Effect Upon Skull Size.
Avatar n tn To my knowledge, there is no specific contraindication to the use of accutane in patients with MS. To my knowledge, accutane does not have drug interactions with the other medications that you are on. As a patient with MS, you can expect to have the same risks and side effects as other people on accutane, and these side effects and risks need to be discussed with you by your dermatologist before you start taking it.
Avatar m tn My body fat went from around 15 % to under 8 % after taking accutane. I am extremely thin now and cannot put on weight on no matter how much I eat or what I eat. For example I can eat a whole tub of ice-cream and has no affect on my body. I have read about others have this issue also. Isotretinoin (accutane) obviously messed up something in my body so that it doesn't metabolize or absorb food the way it did pre-accutane. If anyone has any knowledge in this area plz respond. ty.
Avatar m tn 70s before Accutane was available an osteopath recommended this water-soluble Vitamin A, with a dosage of 400,000 (!) I.U. per day; and miraculously it cleared up my acne, but after 2 years developed Vitamin A toxicity with bad nosebleeds, flaming-hot skin capillaries near my knees and eventually lost about 1/3 of my hair. I stopped taking this preparation after losing my hair.
Avatar m tn Majority of cases of cystic acne can be successfully treated with one 4-6 month course of isotretinoin (Accutane) at a dosage of 0.5-2.0 mg/kg body weight per day (approximately 40-160 mg per day in your case). Continued recovery and prolonged remission after discontinuation of therapy is expected, so it is not required to maintain treatment until total clearance is achieved. Progress you made should not be lost. However, in some, most severe cases, second course of therapy may be needed.
954385 tn?1246410188 my girlfriend got pregnant 2 months after taking accutane. we dont want to have an abortion. and we were wondering what the chances were that the baby was ok. the box says that 1 month after you are off accutane it is out of your system. she is 15 and in athletics. she runs everyday and we were wondering if that sped up the amount of time in which the accutane got out of her system. can anyone help me? she got off at the end of january and we think she got pregnant at the end of may.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar m tn Maybe you should try to change your diet and life style. If you treat your skin too much it can react, so use just the necessary. Make sure you take enough vitamin C and omega 3.
Avatar f tn im on my third and last month of taking 10mg accutane everyday. i was wondering if its ok to use a salicylic acid facewash and moisturiser because 10mg is quite a very low dose.
Avatar f tn I just started my sixth (and final) month of Accutane (60 mg/day). Per the information in the iPledge booklet, I should not have "cosmetic procedures" until I've been off of the medication for six months since the medication interferes with the skin's ability to heal which could cause keloid scarring. In my online research, I'm finding that some doctors say 6 months is acceptable, while others say wait a full year (I even came across one or two who said to wait two years).
Avatar n tn I have never had a cold sore in my life, nor been with anyone that i had observed to have one, however, about 6 years ago I did have an outbreak on my genitals after increasing the dosage of accutane, which i was on at the time, to the highest possible dosage. at first i thought it was a side effect of the drug, of which there was many, but then i had a slight burning sensation upon urination.
1155893 tn?1263018015 Well Ive now been on accutane for 5 months and I keep breaking out. I said in one of my earlier posts that my face was clearing up but now I broke out again and its back to being crap. Im suppose to be on accutane for 7 months (two months left to go). When I first started taking the medication my doc said it be gone by 3 months, max. But now 5 months later... its still not gone and on top of that I have these dark marks that the acne has left behind.
Avatar n tn I assumed it was part of the side-effects of Accutane as even my eyelids feel sticky at times. Therefore, I massaged some Aquaphor onto the head of my penis getting the tip of the tube moist. The redness went away by the next morning. Therefore, my daily regiment includes lubricated the tip of my penis, lips, nose and eyelids. This discussion is related to Accutane and broken urethral lining.
Avatar m tn Take accutane, i'm 17 now and went on it when I was 16 and it worked wonders and keeps tje acne away, I had moderate acne and oily skin too....I play Major Junior hockey and it didn't affect my play in a negative bodily way, it boosted my confidence if anything!......I did a 4 month treatment of it on a lower dose so I would reccommend that, higher doses are for sever cases like grade 4 or between 3 and 4.....
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar m tn Have had melasma for the past couple of years. Just started accutane 40 mg and wondering if there's anything I can use to help treat a stubborn spot on my forehead. Seems like its getting darker since I have started the pills. Already use a physical spf50 cream everyday. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn She recently (2 weeks ago) started taking a low dose of accutane every other day and noticed her face and scalp began to itch and flake. She is now concerned about her hair thinning and even being lost, claiming that it has at least begun to thin. My question: Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
Avatar n tn My 15-year old son is in his 4th month of Accutane. He just completed his 3rd day of football practice and is experiencing severe pain in his hips. He insists that the pain is not muscular. (He is an avid cyclist and has ridden over 100 miles on his bicycle and competed in Olympic distance triathlons, so he understands muscular-related pain.) So, what could be causing the hip pain and/or do you think that there is a high probability that it is related to the Accutane? Thanks.
