Common Questions and Answers about Accutane dosage info

accutane

Avatar m tn I heard the effectivesnees of accutane is increased with a twice daily dosage. True? I will be taking 40mg a day, once a day. Would it be better to take 20 mg twice a day? Also, is it ok to take glucosamine for my joints while on accutane? Lastly, should I be getting a monthly blood test? Or any other precautionary measures?
Avatar m tn ve just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.
Avatar m tn hi! i've just stumbled across your post. i hope you did find answers to your questions eventually. i'm on my 3rd week of accutane and am experiencing the same ibs issues and am freaked out that i'm really messing up my body by taking the accutane. my doctor took down my dosage to every other day, but i'm leaning towards getting off of it completely. because i'm still having the symptoms.
Avatar n tn Does accutane effect long bone growth? What type of dosage may have an impact on this? This discussion is related to Accutane's Effect Upon Skull Size.
Avatar f tn My daughter has been on Accutane for 2 months. While her acne is mild, we put her on this due to my hx of cystic acne at age 22 which was completely responsive to accutane. My question is , she has not seen much change . She is still breaking out, and states zits are larger than in past, but do reslve more quickly She was on accutane once in past with immediate response in first month. Dr just increased dosage. What can we expect in terms of response?
Avatar m tn Majority of cases of cystic acne can be successfully treated with one 4-6 month course of isotretinoin (Accutane) at a dosage of 0.5-2.0 mg/kg body weight per day (approximately 40-160 mg per day in your case). Continued recovery and prolonged remission after discontinuation of therapy is expected, so it is not required to maintain treatment until total clearance is achieved. Progress you made should not be lost. However, in some, most severe cases, second course of therapy may be needed.
Avatar f tn We have seen a dermotologist (under guidance of his Oncologist) and been prescribed Accutane. My question is concerning his taking the Accutane along with his chemo meds. He is on a daily dosage of Mercurprine (6-MP), 3 times weekly Ceptra, once monthly Vincristine and Methotrexate 5 days a month. Would there be any drug interaction between all these Leukemia drugs and the Accutane?
Avatar m tn Maybe you should try to change your diet and life style. If you treat your skin too much it can react, so use just the necessary. Make sure you take enough vitamin C and omega 3.
Avatar n tn I have never had a cold sore in my life, nor been with anyone that i had observed to have one, however, about 6 years ago I did have an outbreak on my genitals after increasing the dosage of accutane, which i was on at the time, to the highest possible dosage. at first i thought it was a side effect of the drug, of which there was many, but then i had a slight burning sensation upon urination.
1155893 tn?1263018015 Well Ive now been on accutane for 5 months and I keep breaking out. I said in one of my earlier posts that my face was clearing up but now I broke out again and its back to being crap. Im suppose to be on accutane for 7 months (two months left to go). When I first started taking the medication my doc said it be gone by 3 months, max. But now 5 months later... its still not gone and on top of that I have these dark marks that the acne has left behind.
Avatar n tn My 16 1/2 year old son has been on Accutane (60mg per day) for 2 months. His blood tests show liver function is great and triglycerides have stayed low. I am worried, however, about his complaints with joint pain. He recently had x rays and an MRI done on his right knee (which was an issue b4 the accutane) and then got relief for that knee when it was drained of excess fluid. He complains that he feels like an old man, something is always hurting.
Avatar n tn My 15-year old son is in his 4th month of Accutane. He just completed his 3rd day of football practice and is experiencing severe pain in his hips. He insists that the pain is not muscular. (He is an avid cyclist and has ridden over 100 miles on his bicycle and competed in Olympic distance triathlons, so he understands muscular-related pain.) So, what could be causing the hip pain and/or do you think that there is a high probability that it is related to the Accutane? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Accutane has many side effects the more common side effect is patch loss of hair. once medication has stopped , most people regain hair loss and other side effects. i would consult with the doctor and tell him whas going on. jus t to let you know my story, i was a life long sufferer, i am 33 years old now, very oily skin and very pale. I have tried everyting from over the counter to medication nothing has worked. i am 33 up until this january i was losing hope, i was about to try accutane.
Avatar n tn I took accutane for about 3-4 months, but I've been off of it for over a year. Before I took accutane, I was constantly wet - I would actually have to change underwear once or twice a day. I had an extremely high libido and orgasmed quickly. While on accutane, if my boyfriend and I would try to have sex, it would be so dry it felt like sandpaper and I would end up convulsing with tears it was so painful and frustrating. I thought it would change...
Avatar f tn I think after researching- I got my symtoms from several courses of Accutane medicine. Which they have pulled from the market. Any one else have the same problems from 10 yrs ago of using Accutane and what did you do to manage the IBS and stomach issues??
Avatar f tn Towards the end of the second month on accutane I suddenly started getting really intense headaches that to me, seem like a migraine. It's happening at least a couple times a week now. My vision kind of suddenly started getting blurier and I now have difficulty trying to focus and refocus my eyes. With this I also experience pain in my eyes. I have this whenever I get the headaches and sometimes without a bad headache.
Avatar m tn I visited a dermatologist to see about getting onto Accutane , I was on it last year for three months and it did wonders but I do need another dose. While I was on it my ALT and AST shot up and I had to be pulled off of it. Now everything there is fine but my bilirubin is up here are my test results Tot. bilirubin - 1.4 , normal - 0.0-1.0 bilirubin dir- 0.20, normal - 0.03-0.18 Protein- 6.2, normal 6.4-8.9 Everything else is OK, and right in the middle of normal range.
Avatar m tn I got scars like Brad Pitt even though I am healthy, fit, active, lean, low body fat, full abs 6pack. It saddens me to go through this. Basically, I lost family in a accident about a year ago. No doctors will prescribe accutane for me. I tried organics, diets name it, Atkins, low gymcemic, no bread, no dairy or sugar or flour, low glycemic, anti inflammatory, even a natural pathic doctor priced at $125/hr. Little to no help. Temporary relief.
Avatar m tn I have been taking accutane for 7 months now. 20 mg first month, 40 next, then 80 which is my current dose. I have a predicted one more month to go(and it has been helping). A few months ago I noticed my hair was getting thinner. I asked my doctor about it and he said he did not know anything about accutane causing hair loss. I have researched it and found that it does. I was just wondering if it is in my case.
Avatar n tn I had the same problem with blood being discharged from my penis 10 years ago while I was on accutane for about 5 months. The best way to stop this is to stop taking accutane. At the time, the doctors immediately advised me to stop taking the medication. It can damage your urine flow. Today, I sometimes have extra urine leakage after urinating. I believe this to be one of the long term affects of taking accutane.
Avatar f tn I would not reccomend accutane is she is planing on becoming pregnant in the next 5 years. Plus it will only be a quick fix, i'd try a natropath to se what the underlying cause of the acne might be ( horomone inbalance, allergy to something...
Avatar m tn What you are having are side effects of the drug Accutane and when you are taking Accutane, you should avoid going out in the sun. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I know you would like a definitive answer to your questions but the simple truth of the matter is no one can say for sure. Doctors still do not know everything that it can do. But if you go to: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-6661-Accutane+Oral.aspx?drugid=6661&drugname=Accutane+Oral&pagenumber=6 it can tell you what side effect can happen while you are taking Accutane. Me personally I don't think it is related to the Accutane, just because it has been over 3 years.
Avatar m tn 70s before Accutane was available an osteopath recommended this water-soluble Vitamin A, with a dosage of 400,000 (!) I.U. per day; and miraculously it cleared up my acne, but after 2 years developed Vitamin A toxicity with bad nosebleeds, flaming-hot skin capillaries near my knees and eventually lost about 1/3 of my hair. I stopped taking this preparation after losing my hair.
Avatar f tn And could have the monthly blood tests i had to get while on accutane show genital herpes in it or anything? Please help me give me all the info u can...
Avatar n tn She stated back pain was a side effect. I read all the info before taking Accutane, and it never described these symptoms in 2001. When I was 30 years old, I had back surgery and it destroyed my back. A doctor at Emory University saw my pre-op MRI and determined I should never have had surgery in the first place. I believe with all my heart that the Accutane is the cause of my problems. I have debilitating pain every day. I have been checked for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
