Hi again. Your dermatologist will regularly check your liver function during treatment. My liver function had "absolutely nothing abnormal about it" (my doctor's words) after two courses of accutane.
No causal link has been established between accutane and depression. It is almost impossible to prove a link because 1) Many accutane patients are adolescent males, a group with a higher than average occurance of depression and suicide.
I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.

Accutane can cause blurred vision, sudden and severe headache or pain behind your eyes, sometimes with vomiting as part of its side effects associated with eye, but not really a red line in the eye, as you have stated in your post.
If it is part of an allergic reaction then it is possible because conjunctivitis can be caused by an allergic reaction.
If long-term use of anti-biotics has proved ineffective, he may be a candidate for oral accutane. Discuss this with your doctor, and check out our acne forum too.
Please have faith and start taking responsibility for your own health as by cleaning your colon and liver you will rid yourselves of these terrible/crippling side effects that have plagued many of you for years. Reading all your stories touched me emotionally and I genuinely hope anyone reading my post will find the strength to make that change. I'm now weaning myself of my blood pressure tablets with much success and monitoring it daily. Good luck everyone, you can do this!!!
If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication.
When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.
Please explore other options with your dermatologist. If Accutane has not affected your liver function and your lipid profile, then we need not be unduly worried.

17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. I'm looking for some advice/reassurance. I have been off accutane for a little over a year, during which time I have had at most one zit at any one time which would disappear relatively quickly. In the last few days, however, I have had two zits appear simultaneously, and I'm slightly worried. I've been using benzoyl peroxide religiously for the past several months, so now I'm questioning whether the positive effect of the accutane may be over.
5 year old son that was treated with accutane when he was almost14 years old. A bone age x-ray was taken before the start of accutane and the reading was a of a normal 14 year old. After the 20 week accutane treatment we had another bone age x-ray taken and the reading was of a person of 15.5 years of age but the actual age of my son was 14 years 2 months. His height growth since the treatment has been only 1.5 inches. The height of my son was 68.5 inches at the first bone age x-ray.
For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. But get it done after the course of Accutane. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
His blood tests show liver function is great and triglycerides have stayed low. I am worried, however, about his complaints with joint pain. He recently had x rays and an MRI done on his right knee (which was an issue b4 the accutane) and then got relief for that knee when it was drained of excess fluid. He complains that he feels like an old man, something is always hurting.

I have been taking a Yucca supplement from a health food store and was told it would help-it has not. I have not done too much besides drinking milk and taking a vitamin D3 supplement.
3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
Accutane is known to cause problems in skeletal system of growing teens. I took it around the same age as your son and had severe pain. I called "Rosche" the company that makes Accutane and they said it can stunt growth in teens by closing the epiphyseal plates prematurely. I'm 21 now and my height of 5'7'' hasn't increased since my last cycle of Accutane. I also remember having severe joint and muscle pain after HS tennis practices. - 21 male.
hi pogopossum, what age did you and your husband take accutane? because im just very worried about its side effects on reproductive organs, (i.g. if taking it during puberty stage/14 years old will make one, especially girls, impotent.) please do reply, im very worried. i am a girl and took it while i was 14. :( thank you!
after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible
i have just started to take accutane and i am on my 9th day. i work out alot by doing weightlifting and running. i am feeling joint pain in the lower back area. A year ago i injured my lower back and it took months to heal. i am wondering if there is somthing that i can take to help my pain and if these symptoms are only temporary.
I don't know why you would have to stop taking it or why you couldn't after. Talk to your doctor about it and see what they say and if there's any certain route you have to take. If you're not on any, make sure you discuss birth control and such to prevent pregnancy until you're done with this medicine or you're ready for children.
It is advised when taking this medication to monitor their blood and liver enzymes because of this effect. However, ironj deficiency anemia can go back after stopping the medication. Iron supplements may be prescribed to bring the levels of your red blood cells to normal. It is also recommended that you refrain from donating blood for at least a month after because the risk of the medicine to an unborn child if the blood transfusion was received by a pregnant woman.

I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized. My cousin made a comment about my hair so, now I am concerned about it thinning. Upon further inspection, it feels thinner near the crown but, she did texturize my hair. Also, I was laying on it in a certain spot. I took a video with my phone for further inspection finding nothing but I will keep a close eye on it.
Is rogain out of the question while on accutane?
