Accutane and wound healing

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane and wound healing

accutane

Avatar f tn Hello, Since Accutane causes delayed wound healing and other side effects on skin like increased fragility of skin and hyper and hypopigmentation, so it is advisable to get cryotherapy done after you have completed the course of Accutane. I sincerely hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
Avatar n tn I am 20 years old I was using accutane for 6 months, I was supposed to have a small surgery in my pelvis while on the drug but my doctor told me to wait and he explained that no surgery should be performed because the drug does indeed interfere with wound healing in fact he recommended to get the surgery 6 months after I have been off the drug but you should definitely ask her doctor/surgeon about it and get a better opinion ...wish you and your daughter the best.

Avatar f tn Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Avatar n tn If that is the case, the doctor could have treated it with something other than accutane. How long have you been off accutane and how long have you been treated for depression/anxiety? Was it during the time you were on accutane or once off of it? My gut feeling is that once the accutane is completely out of your system, your depression and anxiety will get back to where they were before.
Avatar m tn It will absorb the weeping - a healing reaction, by the way unless the weeping fluid is cloudy, thick, and quite uniquely painful with redness and swelling around your wound, most importantly has an offensive smell - you are in the healing stage, and with a powdered topical med forming an immediate scab you will be fine. Try to keep it dry...if you wet it during showers, gently blot dry immediately, disallowing the new scab to dissolve.
Avatar f tn I would have the doc look at it in case there is infection inside. If the strength of the site is compromised a wound can be pulled apart even much later. I once had an abdominal incision abscess and it nearly turned into gangrene. I'd call the doc at least, and if the drainage is not clear but like pus and/or has a bad odor, I would treat it with urgency.
Avatar n tn After a couple of years of enduring the painful process of shaving, I have decided that I can no longer cope with it. I have been off of accutane for about six months and it made my skin a nightmare. Thankfully, it cleared up my skin and I no longer get pimples although it has made my skin very irritated from shaving. I first started shaving with an regular razor, but my dermatologist told my to switch to an electric razor because my skin was being ruined.
Avatar n tn I finished taking accutane about 7 years ago. Now every pimple or mark i get, i get a scar. Its white and slighly raised. My question is, is it possible that accutane could affect your healing and make you prone to scarring permanently? I've heard durning the treatment and a couple years after your skin is thin and sensitive but not permanently. I would appreciate an answer as I am really depressed over this.
Avatar n tn Also could me being on Accutane effect healing this rash. Im in month 4 and have been on 80 MG a day since day 1 so i wouldnt think this would be the cause.
Avatar f tn The outside of the incision has healed but I have a 0.3 x 0.3 on the outside and 11.5 depth of the wound. I am now having to go to the hosptial where i live to have the bandages changed once a day in the mornings, they say I will have to go back to the surgeon and have it looked at becuase i have not healed any since the week after the surgery.
Avatar m tn The vet says there is not enough skin left to close the wound again and claims that the area will eventually granulate, fill in and close up but the wound looks so daunting I'm doubting it will ever happen. I'm bringing her back every other day right now for bandage changes so the vet is seeing the wound pretty often. She's on a couple antibiotics and pain meds. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can a dog with a large, deep open wound heal up?
Avatar f tn Is this wound infected or healing? There's yellow gooey thing on top of my wound. Is it a scab or infection? I'm currently under Augmentin antibiotics and also i'm putting fucidin on top of my wound as suggested by my surgeon last two days. The wound is not pain and the yellow gooey thing is just there and cannot be wiped off. It's hard. No discharge as well. I didnt wanna go back to my doc as of now cos of the charges. Appreciate the help!! Picture: https://s.yimg.
Avatar f tn Also poor circulation just adds to the problem of the wound healing. You can probably expect a longer wound healing time and as the dr said debridement if needed. Hope this helps and good luck.
Avatar f tn In a topical solution it has very potent anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing properties making it extremely effective against even the most persistent skin conditions. It's 100% natural, organic, and hypoallergenic. You can look up studies on it on google. Anyway, this is the product I personally use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08978XYJK?ref=myi_title_dp I wish you the best!
Avatar f tn I was wondering how long would a normal time be for healing from a wound? My dog seems to have a very slow healing time. She has hurt her paw before, which took forever to heal. And now the scab above her eye still isn't all the way healed. Is there something I can do to help her? It doesn't seem to bother her, but I want it to heal faster, so there won't be much room for infection or anything else to happen.
Avatar f tn I have not smoked for 2 months now and am not a drinker. I am highly active and go to the gym. I keep the wound clean and covered when I go to the Gym. I feel I am in fairly good shape and good health. Itake vitamins and eat lots. I am 54 years of age and am 5'7" and 138 lbs, with low body fat. I have a full time job, care for my grandchildren and parent. I also volunteer with community church 3 times a week. Any suggestions to what can be going on and what to do.
Avatar m tn Hi specialmom and thank you for answering! I attend a wound clinic every fortnight and am using medipore and aquacel,. I just shower every other day as they say to keep the bandage on as long as possible although this is now casing irratation as its been so long. The last time I was in the hospital last year the doctor told me to use a womans pad instead of bandages but this isnt practical as I'm not sure how that would protect and keep the wound clean.
1172359 tn?1310667693 I do hope they get to the bottom of your issue as to why its taken months and months and no sign of healing at all.
Avatar m tn initially i left that as it is but the wound was not healing faster (adding to the problem after the bath the skin which is kind of healing i.e turing brown comes of and skin is red ) so far no puss. the doctor also suggests to apply hibi cleanser.
Avatar n tn i have started accutane 4 days ago u lot a getting me scared but my face it terrible let u know how i get on
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar f tn t seem like it is enough for my son, though. His fingers and feet are still hurting. He started Accutane (20/every other day) in September. I am just trying to figure out if anything is connected and if we should be doing anything else. I don't figure we would give him any Raynaud's meds, even if they were offered by a doctor, but I would hate to not notice if he has some other illness.
Avatar m tn Also diabetes leads peripheral neuropathy, atherosclerosis etc which make wound healing troublesome. You need a culture sensitivity of wound scraping to know what antibiotics will suit the infection. If there is underlying dermatitis, then this needs to be taken care of. If there is severe atherosclerosis preventing blood supply to wound, then this needs to be diagnosed by angiograms. It is better to get this treated at a wound clinic.
Avatar n tn If the area around the wound is not healing, is dead and won't take stitches then you need to find a better vet. That dead tissue is a major problem......it is not only dead but spreading fatal bacteria. It needs to be 'taken' off to the layer of healthy tissue. Your cat is not eating or recovering because she is full of bacterial infection. If your Vet won't do anything...find another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a 911 situation!
Avatar n tn I haven't had them but you can look up manuka honey. It can and does speed the healing of wounds that I've used it on, usually 15+ or 20+ minimum. I'm not sure what the Dr said to put on it but depending on the level you get, it can be very effective. Internally, bone broth can help your body a bunch with wound healing, can be purchased but homemade is best.
546892 tn?1214525401 Isotretinoin is a type of medication used to treat severe acne (nodlo cystic or nodular acne) which have failed to respond to other treatments including any type of oral antibiotics and topical application creams. Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar f tn Since the bony flap is not taking up and there are no signs of healthy wound healing and new bone formation, she required exploration and reconstruction of the bony flap. Get her a reconstructive surgeon consult immediately to evaluate the status of bony flap and reconstruction under general anesthesia. Hope this helps. Take care.
