Accutane and rosacea

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane and rosacea

accutane

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with rosacea last year and the bumps seem to get worse each time. I have been using the microgel as prescribed by my dermatologist and that seems to help. I also use a cortisole cream which makes them go away but then they appear over a few days. The rash is very annoying and seems to have a mind of its own. I wish there was something to make it go away.... for a good. Any advice? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn my cheeks would feel cold even in hot weather and I would look normal, but as soon as I get home and sit down my face would go beet red and take a couple of hours to calm down; this started in the second month and has remained the same 7months after finishing the course. If I eat spicy food my face will turn pink but feel cold to touch, sometimes the same happens with beer but the more I drink the less sensitive I become to these triggers.
20851793 tn?1537398597 I just started a week ago accutane, and my face broke up like crazy. I have huge red cystic acne all over my chin, cheeks, and my face hurts. My doctor gave me prednisone today, so I am hoping that helps. I have rosacea as well, and I see even more red than before. I was told you should not drink while on those these prescriptions but a little is ok, unless binging you should just skip a dose... is there a way around this? I do enjoy my happy hours? Why does it take so long for accutane to work?
Avatar n tn My whole face is really red to, and stops at my neck. I do have acne, and have been on Accutane for about 4.5 months. I dont know if this may be the problem or what else?
Avatar n tn Steroid rosacea is possible. I suggest stopping all steroids, by cream or by mouth. Topical antibiotics like metronidazole may help. If you weren't on Accutane, oral doxycycline might be useful, but you can't take that while taking Accutane (which may itself help if you finish off the course and don't use steroids any more.) This rash may take some time to heal, but it should in the end go away completely. Milk and food have nothing to do with it that I can think of. Best. Dr.
Avatar m tn Clobetasol is a very high potent steroid....yes., accutane is a temporary relief to clobetasol induced rosacea like acne... your skin becomes addicted to steroidal cream...With the stoppage of steroidal application your skin undergoes a withdrawl stage which shows papulo pustular eruptions....I strictly recommend u to undergo chemical peels for 6 mnths(monthly once)(salysilic and glycolic peels alternatively) and apply hydrocortisone(for 5days after peel) as post-peel cream....
Avatar n tn I am 28 and have had rosacea for about 1 year now. My skin is severely dry, tight and flaky. My cheecks are always extremely red. Rosacea sufferers are not supposed to use exfoliaters, so how am i supposed to get rid of the dry flaky skin? I cant use cover up because it only highlights the dead skin and i dont like going out in public with my skin all red and flaky. HELP. I dont want to take antibiotics. Does anyone know of any natural remedies?
Avatar m tn Need some advice... I'm 32 years old and I've been diagnosed with papulopustular Rosacea a year ago.. Nothing really helped (antibiotics, metro cream, noritate, elides..) until I tried soolantra cream which cleared my forehead, nose and cheeks and almost all of my chin. I was taking orthotricyclen since 15 years and was told to switch to Diane 35 for better results because it seemed to be more of hormonal acne...
Avatar m tn 3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
1155893 tn?1263018015 It will. The cream has been around for ages. I use daily, and it has gradually gotten Rosacea outbreak under control. Mine looks like acne. You can continue using after you are finished with accutane. Many people use it routinely to help skin sluff off dead cells. Great cream.
Avatar n tn Around 15, I took accutane and that fully cleared it up (along with acne). Once off, the Acne stayed away but the red, itchy, flaking dermatitis returned. From around 16-21 the flaking was contained to the sides of my nose. Now, at 24, it has moved to my eyebrows and toward my cheeks. My dermatologist has kept me on a regime of part cortisone lotion, part anti-fungal lotion since I was 18. While this seems to lessen the dermatitis, the flaking is still persistant, and seems to come in cycles.
Avatar n tn About 10 years ago when it first began I was put on Accutane and that seemed to get rid of it for about 5 years. Now it is back and just as bad as it was prior to Accutane. My dermatologist said that typically for someone with my condition Accutane isn't prescribed but since it worked before she thinks it would work again. I am not sold on the idea of taking Accutane as it's side effects are numerous and I am trying to have a baby.
Avatar n tn On the other hand, I have seen plenty of peope with scalp folliculitis who have never taken Accutane. In short, I regard the two conditions as separate and unrelated. Acne itself does not affect the scalp. In my experience, many cases of scalp folliculitis are stress-related. Unless a culture actually shows staph germs, I would be skeptical that these bacteria are playing any role here. If a topical antibiotic doesn't help, perhaps a topical steroid might. Ask your dermatologist.
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar f tn t understand the logic behind this, because I only have redness from inflammation (and I suspect the thinning of my skin makes this extremely more visible). And metro cream seems more for surface growths associated with rosacea (since it is anti-bacterial), not the inflammation redness, right? He also recommended Nutraplus Urea cream (10%). It also makes my face smoother, but again, same limitations as Lac Hydrin. I have seen 3 dermatologists, 1 with PHD/MD credentials.
546892 tn?1214525401 Isotretinoin is a type of medication used to treat severe acne (nodlo cystic or nodular acne) which have failed to respond to other treatments including any type of oral antibiotics and topical application creams. Accutane is strong medicine for acne cure but can have serious side effects.
Avatar n tn i have started accutane 4 days ago u lot a getting me scared but my face it terrible let u know how i get on
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar f tn I had terribe acne rosacea for about 5 years. Homeopathy and supplements have basically cleared it up. I have beautiful skin now. ;) I think gut health is highly significant. Like the others I'd recommend probiotics, zinc is good too, evening primrose oil is another worth trying. Find a practitioner to guide you and be prepared for it to take time and to make changes to your diet.
Avatar m tn In the meantime do not apply any harsh products on to your face and avoid any perfumed soaps and shower gels and shaving lotions. Simple soap is fairly cheap and unperfumed. Do not touch the acne and then touch the rest of your face, as this will spread the infection. I do not think it is Rosacea because the redness would also be on other ares of the face. Hope you can get your skin problem sorted out very soon as I know it can feel quite embarassing.
Avatar m tn For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. But get it done after the course of Accutane. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar m tn 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
