I took Accutane when I was 16, about 6 years ago, and almost immediately after I finished my course I developed severe joint pain and swelling. I saw a rheumatologist and was diagnosed with lupus, and joint pain is one of the symptoms I deal with to this day. I'm 100% positive that the Accutane, being such a powerful drug, triggered the lupus.

I am coming off my 2nd course of accutane. The first course I was on 80 mg per day. for about 4 months before the mental side effects made me stop. I was having weird thoughts and could tell I was not myself. The second course lasted about 5 months, same dosage less side effects. IT DID CLEAR MY ACNE, better than any antibiotic or other popular or unpopular treatment. I had tried them all, diets, over-the-counter meds, etc.

There are some effects of accutane on the joints which include joint stiffness, joint pain, muscle aches, decreased blood cells and bone marrow depression. I suggest you to discuss these side effects with your dermatologist before you start with the treatment.

believe me my knee pains are much better. and and so is my back pain. Though its still there and its better. (probably i will start taking it three times as mentioned in the link. btw you can also search aloe vera and joint pains on google. and get to know how it works. )

I have taken Accutane and experienced joint and muscle pain. However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks.
Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne.
The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day.
I wish there was a proper thread for migraine suffers who need prescription pain relief and their experience with accutane( or claravis) / if it makes migraines even worse or more frequent. Not people who have other health concerns or problems with the medication.
I have been taking Claravis 40mg once daily for almost a month. The last 2 weeks or so my migraines have gotten more frequent and less apt to respond to Rizatriptan.

What most people don't know, is that Accutane is a highly toxic chemotherapeutic agent and can permanently change the body in a variety of ways. Accutane in some patients, can cause permanent erectile dysfunction and low libido even after the medication is discontinued.
t constant, i only really feel it after bending over for a while and then when i stand back up and relax is when i feel the pain, and the only time that the back pain is extremely intense is when i lay down. every time i go to bed and i relax my back, for about 10-20 seconds i will feel a lot of lower back pain. but it quickly subsides and i feel nothing. Hopefully that last bit of information will help in the diagnosis of my problem.
I'm currently on day 8 of using Accutane. I'm already experiencing back pain and very dry and cracking lips. Should I be worried?
And there are many other side effects of Accutane mentioned in many comments online and includes joint pain. While this drug may not be the problem, this is a suspect and even more so if symptoms showed up after taking the drug.

I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Before I took accutane, I was constantly wet - I would actually have to change underwear once or twice a day. I had an extremely high libido and orgasmed quickly. While on accutane, if my boyfriend and I would try to have sex, it would be so dry it felt like sandpaper and I would end up convulsing with tears it was so painful and frustrating. I thought it would change...and it somewhat did after I stopped taking the drug. About a month after I stopped taking accutane I was better.
Yes, I had mild acne when I was younger and my dermatologist gave me Accutane, a few months later I was in severe abdominal pain, fever, very weak and ended up in the emergency room originally diagnosed with appendicitis only to find out my appendix was perfect at which point they found the diseased portion of the small intestine and diagnosed me with Crohn's. Now, this is not that big deal however, I have never experienced eye pain. Its not excrutiating pain however, it is discomfortable. I have visine and eye drops from previous outings of infection once. The advice was see a doctor. Obviously, the biggest concern is stroke, heart attack and permanent removal of all things in my life like the ability to walk.
I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized.
this is about my 3rd month i think at 40mg and i have noticed that my head is actualy peeling (please be mature) i am not circumsized so i do have skin over it but the tip of my skin has really puffed out and tured red and i actually have extremly bad pain sometimes like a really bad stinging like were it hurts to walk i have tired mosturizer on my head and the skin over it well i cant see my head anymore because when i pull the skin back to see how its bin i cant because of the pain i cant real
--With fifths disease usually there is redness on the arms and legs also----with lupus other symptoms are fatigue/fevers/hair loss/sensitivity to sunlight/joint pain/arms and legs and hands will get reddish in cold weather.....
m on accutane now (40mg/day; 3rd week) and am suffering the worst gas, tummy rumbles (loud!), and both constipation/ diarrhea. I'm getting scared that I've permanently damaged my intestines/gut and am trying to hear back from other people that have gone through similar things. i wish there was more information readily available/ easily referenced on it. i've found lots of stories from people, but no data. it's very frustrating.
17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. I just got off 2 rounds of accutane and I just went to the doctor yesterday. Both my doctor and I believe that Accutane have made my IBS severely worse.
