Accutane and high triglycerides

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane and high triglycerides

accutane

8812528 tn?1400857632 I'm on Accutane and to use the medicine I have to get my blood work done every month. Since being on Accutane my triglycerides have been acting up. The first 3/4 months I was mid to high 200's, but this past month I was at 733.
Avatar m tn I went to a doctor who ran some blood tests, and though my cholesterol and Triglycerides were high, she said they did not have any reason to be making me dizzy. I an negative for all STDs except oral herpes, i am negative for celiacs disease. I had an MRI that showed my brain was fine. I had a cyst in my nasal passage but the doctors all say it cant be causing this and it should 'pop' on its own.
Avatar n tn By all means discuss this with your dermatologist and share your frustration. There are other options besides Accutane. If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication. When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.
Avatar n tn His blood tests show liver function is great and triglycerides have stayed low. I am worried, however, about his complaints with joint pain. He recently had x rays and an MRI done on his right knee (which was an issue b4 the accutane) and then got relief for that knee when it was drained of excess fluid. He complains that he feels like an old man, something is always hurting.
Avatar m tn His mother has also a H/o high TG, Cholesterol and BP. Recently she developed Hypothyroidism at age of 56 and then Diabetes mellitus type 2 at age of 59. Now she is 59 years old.Today we did the blood test for my husband and his TG is 519 mg/dl. Total Cholestrol is 208 mg/dl, LDL is 142 mg/dL and HDL is 34.42 mg/dl.His S. amylase is slightly elevated 112 U/l. Now a new develpoment happened is slightly elevated TSH of 4.59, which was normal till 1 year back. So please advice what this indicates?
Avatar m tn My triglycerides were in 200+ range and now down to 60. Two things that made the biggest difference are : 1) Nialor (Instant release Niacin) - 3*500mg - You could use any other brand. 2) Oats + 10 almonds + 1 walnut for breakfast - 5 days a week.
Avatar m tn There is still much debate over the interaction of high TGL's and heart disease, no one is quite sure of the role TGLs play yet. When you speak of people with high TGL levels, some can be well into the thousands. TGL's are easy to lower, the fastest way is to cut out empty carbs like sugars, breads and pasta. All these metabolize to sugar and raise TGL. Also, don't drink as alcohol also metabolizes as sugars and will increase serum levels of TGL.
Avatar f tn Raising HDL is a good protective for high LDL cholesterol, and antioxidants that affect the blood vessels will help protect from the effects of triglycerides, but again, the best way to lower them is to not ingest them in the first place.
Avatar f tn I drink off/on but had been drinking in excess prior to having my blood work drawn. My triglycerides came back high so I need to go back and have my blood drawn again. How long after quitting drinking will my triglycerides go down to normal?
Avatar n tn Hi, just finished roaccutane treatment last month and took a medical exam yesterday and they found out that I'm anemic? is this a serious problem? I'm really scared. What do i need to know now? what is the type of anemia caused by taking roaccutane? Thank You in advance!
Avatar m tn I know there is a connection with HIV and high Triglycerides and such but I am unsure of if it would be the ART or the virus itself that can cause it? Reason I ask is I have had a couple of tests, but made a couple of mistakes since then...my lipid profile showed massive elevations in triglycerides (almost 1000) I drank a lot of soda and smoked so i know those had something to do with it.
Avatar f tn Previous labs showed below normal iron and ferritin levels and low normal Vit B12. I was instructed to take iron, Vit C and Vit B12 supplements. My ferritin came up to a low normal range, and the irons are back in normal levels. The Vit B12 rose significantly to a high normal level. Given what you've explained to me then, I should expect that in time the RDW will also come back into a normal range now that the ulcer healed and the bleeding stopped.
Avatar f tn Just having them within the normal ranges is not enough. If FT3 and FT4 are not high enough, you will have the symptoms you describe, plus possibly more. Your Anti-Thyroglobulin and Anti-TPO are antibody tests and since they are both elevated, that indicates that you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease in which the body sees the thyroid as foreign and produces antibodies to attack and destroy it.
Avatar m tn 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
Avatar m tn I've heard of meds increasing cholesterol but that's a pretty amazing jump and decrease just based on your meds. Which med was it, do you think? I'm a big believer in a once a year physical. Even if you have health anxiety (as many anxiety patients do). It gets less scary as you do it more. I don't know your age. For some, even your ldl is too high and hdl too low. Do you exercise at all?
Avatar m tn Also, your HDL is high which is good, but some exercise may increase the HDL levels and that will help off set any high LDL, but ask your doctor first. Also, you need to re-test because you did not get a true 12 hour fast before your test and alcohol is the worst thing to have that close to a test.
Avatar m tn I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized. My cousin made a comment about my hair so, now I am concerned about it thinning. Upon further inspection, it feels thinner near the crown but, she did texturize my hair. Also, I was laying on it in a certain spot. I took a video with my phone for further inspection finding nothing but I will keep a close eye on it. Is rogain out of the question while on accutane?
Avatar f tn t want to get out of bed with no motivation to do anything. I received my blood work results back, with high cholesterol (220), triglycerides (198) and a TSH level of 10.1 with a note that states "Increased TSH suggestive of hypothyroidism". The doctor requested additional thyroid tests which all came back normal. He has sent me to a nutritionist and wants to retest everything again in 3 months including TSH levels.
Avatar f tn My Triglycerides are high its like 268 I now been exercising doing cardio no fried foods I also been counting carbs im 30yrs old my overall cholesterol is 161 I did weight 215 two weeks ago I now weight 206 I ate a burger before I got blood work done do you think that could have made the triglycerides high.
Avatar m tn Total cholesterol is made up of HDL and LDL cholesterol but also factors in VLDL and triglycerides. You can not get your total cholesterol number without all of this factored in. Perhaps your VLDL (very low density lipids) or triglycerides are out of whack and higher than they should be. Do you know what these numbers are as well on your report? This article is excellent at explaining it all. https://my.clevelandclinic.
