I suffered the same fate due to Accutane. At one point the abdominal pain was so bad I thought it was better to end my life than to suffer the excrutiating pain. Fortunately, I researched alternative medicine to find some relief for the bowel pain and inflammation and came across Bromelain. It's an enzyme extracted from pineapple and it has helped me tremendously.
I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Now, this is not that big deal however, I have never experienced eye pain. Its not excrutiating pain however, it is discomfortable. I have visine and eye drops from previous outings of infection once. The advice was see a doctor. Obviously, the biggest concern is stroke, heart attack and permanent removal of all things in my life like the ability to walk.
I can say, nothing has helped the way accutane has. I got a hair cut and made the mistake of getting my hair texturized.
this is about my 3rd month i think at 40mg and i have noticed that my head is actualy peeling (please be mature) i am not circumsized so i do have skin over it but the tip of my skin has really puffed out and tured red and i actually have extremly bad pain sometimes like a really bad stinging like were it hurts to walk i have tired mosturizer on my head and the skin over it well i cant see my head anymore because when i pull the skin back to see how its bin i cant because of the pain i cant real
Accutane is known to cause problems in skeletal system of growing teens. I took it around the same age as your son and had severe pain. I called "Rosche" the company that makes Accutane and they said it can stunt growth in teens by closing the epiphyseal plates prematurely. I'm 21 now and my height of 5'7'' hasn't increased since my last cycle of Accutane. I also remember having severe joint and muscle pain after HS tennis practices. - 21 male.
m on accutane now (40mg/day; 3rd week) and am suffering the worst gas, tummy rumbles (loud!), and both constipation/ diarrhea. I'm getting scared that I've permanently damaged my intestines/gut and am trying to hear back from other people that have gone through similar things. i wish there was more information readily available/ easily referenced on it. i've found lots of stories from people, but no data. it's very frustrating.
17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. Antibiotics and other topical have not worked well enough and the dermatologist is recommending that I go on accutane. I have an app. about it in several weeks. My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
t constant, i only really feel it after bending over for a while and then when i stand back up and relax is when i feel the pain, and the only time that the back pain is extremely intense is when i lay down. every time i go to bed and i relax my back, for about 10-20 seconds i will feel a lot of lower back pain. but it quickly subsides and i feel nothing. Hopefully that last bit of information will help in the diagnosis of my problem.
I took Accutane for a while and I didn't even get a choice... it was automatic from my dr. you get a script for accutane you also get the script for birth control. The risks are crazy with that medication.
after that i had Shaking in my hand (for 3 month then it removed) and bad concentration (i did not know till now why i did not go dr may i was thinking that is not problem ) after 4 year i did a test for thyroid and the result was positive for hypothyroidism , i want to ask if there is connection between the medication (Isotretinoin and accutane) and hypothyroidism and if it reversible
I wish there was a proper thread for migraine suffers who need prescription pain relief and their experience with accutane( or claravis) / if it makes migraines even worse or more frequent. Not people who have other health concerns or problems with the medication.
I have been taking Claravis 40mg once daily for almost a month. The last 2 weeks or so my migraines have gotten more frequent and less apt to respond to Rizatriptan.
And yes, they even say that there are lawsuits going on regarding use of Accutane and CD starting up. The warnings for Accutane are very similar to that of 2-butoxyethanol. They also comment on malabsorption, lipid & cholesterol issues, fever, and that autoimmune action on the red blood cells as autoimmune hemolytic anemia is very often present AND that it was more common in the 20s and 30s for those who cleaned a lot (the upper classes).
But, a couple weeks into the second month I started having really, really awful pounding pressuring headaches with really bad eye pain and dizziness. It hurt to move my eyes around and I had some difficulty focusing and changing my focus. My dermatologist was very concerned (worried about the possibility of pseudotumor cerebri) and sent me immediately to a neurologist.
If that is the case, the doctor could have treated it with something other than accutane. How long have you been off accutane and how long have you been treated for depression/anxiety? Was it during the time you were on accutane or once off of it? My gut feeling is that once the accutane is completely out of your system, your depression and anxiety will get back to where they were before.
I'm not sure why you need to start birth control pills or use a back up method a month before starting accutane. Maybe because that med can effect the first month of pills.
You did have a period after starting accutane and you did'nt have unprotected sex until the 13th and 16th. Like I said, if you're like most women you shouldn't be ovulating at that time. Really, the only way to know for sure if you were ovualting is if you were using an ovulation test.
just like most people on this subject, doctors are wrong and will probably dismiss the patient saying "It probably wasn't accutane". What most people don't know, is that Accutane is a highly toxic chemotherapeutic agent and can permanently change the body in a variety of ways. Accutane in some patients, can cause permanent erectile dysfunction and low libido even after the medication is discontinued.
Is anyone aware of a linkage between isotretonoin (Accutane), used for treating cystic acne, and Sjogren's, which is linked to the epithelial cells? At 21, when Accutane first appeared, doses were higher than current (I remember my skin bleeding when scratching lightly with a fingernail). I am now 51, and have had Reynaud's for a number of years, and was just diagnosed with Sjogren's. Just curious if anyone has seen this?
She recently (2 weeks ago) started taking a low dose of accutane every other day and noticed her face and scalp began to itch and flake. She is now concerned about her hair thinning and even being lost, claiming that it has at least begun to thin.
My question: Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
