Abscess wisdom teeth

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess wisdom teeth

abscess

But your pain sounds severe and could be dangerous if there is an abscess that spreads from the wisdom tooth area to other places of the head/neck area.
unless there is a problem such as a cavity or abscess of some kind, you don't need them pulled. For my wisdom teeth, he numbed the first one, then said he was going to check something. Two seconds later he said we're all done. I asked about pulling the tooth and he showed me that he did, already!?! I didn't even feel him back there and obviously it must have practically fell out.
I had 3 wisdom teeth removed. 2 on left side. Upper on right side. I was not prescribed any antibiotic afterwards even though the upper right tooth was rotten. 10 days afterwards I went back to the oral surgeon because I could not open my mouth more than a thumb's width. He said he wanted to look at my incisions and while doing so tried to pry my mouth open. Worst pain I have ever had. EVER. He said I should do this 7-8 more times that day and until my mouth would open.
I would get fillings, then pulled all 4 my wisdom teeth, because they were the first to start chipping away, and then it went from filling cavities to crowns, then root canals until just last yr having 7 teeth pulled. I've lost a lot of teeth and have spent a lot of money on expensive dentures to fill in what teeth I have lost. Anyways, it all started from the medication I was taking and if I had known that at 24, I would of stopped the medication then.
Hi im 17 and to start of im a hypochondriac big time so this just may be me xD So all my wisdom teeth have pretty much come in fine the dentist has never told me they were coming in wrong...But as of Saturday a well lump or bump in my gum near my wisdom tooth and second molar has came up!
YES do go to the dentist. i had an abscess with my daughter and it got so bad it was almost unbearable. they only thing to get rid of the abscess is to take antibiotics to get rid of the infection and after baby is born they may have to do a root canal or pull tooth all together. mine had to be pulled out. but definitely get it checked out i was told by my dentist that it can get bad enough and get into your blood stream...
It is in the same general area of the two upper teeth that I need crowned. I have had those teeth X-rayed, and there was no abscess. I had a hole in my heart closed in august 2009 and I take preventative antibiotics for all my dental work because of risk of infection. I have been having these kinds of symptoms since November 2009. I am worried I have a dental infection spreading from neglected dental work, that was complicated by a mis-diagnosis. Sorry for dragging this on, and on.

My wisdom teeth have been coming in for a year now and my wisdom on the bottom left hurts really bad and there is a bump that formed over night on the gums next to my wisdom tooth. What is it?
Now he is in terrible pain, and during his first visit to his GP he was informed that his wisdom teeth had abscess so he was put on antibiotics for 10 days with Augemtin first and later on Augmentin duo. Nothing seemed to have worked for him and now he is with severe chest congestion, fever and terrible tooth and head pain. Can you please advise us with a therapy that he could try. Any help is truly appreciated, many thanks.
I had my Wisdom Teeth taken out 2 weeks ago...ever since then my right lip and chin have been completely numb...I went back to the Oral Surgeon who wants to wait a month to see what happens, I have a follow up appointment in November right before Thanksgiving. Is there anything I can do to help? Based on common experience, how long does nerve damage "usually" take to heal? I feel like I am in the dark...I cannot stand it...
Hi I had my two top wisdom teeth pulled when I was 18.My dentist told me at the time that my bottom wisdom teeth would probably never come in.Well, they are.I have had extreme pain for about two weeks.Just the past couple of days i've noticed that it's causing my ear and jaw to hurt.Today I woke up and my gland in my neck, directly under my ear is swollen and it kind of hurts.I have a bad smell and taste coming from the tooth.
They are the catch-all of oral health problems, and can be caused by just about anything – Cavities, Impacted wisdom teeth, gum disease and more.
None of my fiance's wisdom teeth are impacted, but one of them is partially erupted, and he got some food caught between the tooth and gum, which led to an infection. It was minor, according to his dentist (I asked if it could be life threatening and she laughed), and she said there was a very small abscess which went away. He took penicillin and did topical antimicrobial and he says he feels totally fine now. (he never had a fever or swollen lymph nodes- just some swelling at the gum).
I am having surgery tomorrow to get them extracted, however I am scared that the wisdom teeth may not be the cause of the daily migraines I have been enduring. Is it possible for wisdom teeth to cause that much pain? Also, is it normal for an oral surgeon to extract a wisdom tooth while infected without antibiotic treatment first? What are the complications and/or possibilities of this?
He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
I always have some pressure there. Years ago, i had my unerupted wisdom teeth pulled where the unprepared dentist was not expecting 2 teeth to be there and while pulling, he broke off a root in my sinuses. He failed to tell me he did this, i guess he hoped i'd never know. It finally did make itself known and i had to go to an oral surgeon to have it removed. Again, its never been 100% pain free since. Skip back to a month ago. I felt the pressure building, assumed it was sinus.
Hi! Wisdom teeth are infecting after a certain period of time mostly, so there is nothing special about that, it is - much to all our regret - "normal". That is the reason, why wisdom teeth are mostly pulled out. A replacement is not needed, only if the infection of the tooth have infected other teeth in the molar area, than it could happen, that an oral surgical intervention must be performed, maybe more extractions or restorations.
to my knowledge at that time i could not think of anything that would be the case, so i figured the surgery would fix the problem, and a year later the pain is back and the pressure, but not the polyps just yet, and just recently i remembered that when i had my wisdom teeth taken out about 8 years ago i developed an infection in my mandible that probably never really went away, due to lack of funds for the required antibiotics and other treatments.
last week i developed an abcsess in my tooth. my cheek became very swollen. the doctor said the infection from the abscess had passed from my tooth into my cheek. they put me on keeflex. within 24 hours about 60% of the swelling in my cheek had subsided. i am now on day 6 of a 10 days worth of the keeflex.
but I can't help but feel that it's a LOT more than minor if his cheek got irritated. He went to the dentist again and they told him that the wisdom teeth were not impacted, but that he should get them removed. Nobody seems to be acting like this is an emergency, but I keep feeling like he is going to have the infection spread to his bone and kill him. Is this totally irrational on my part? Does he need to get wisdom teeth removed ASAP to avoid death?
so just this morning, i woke up around 5 with sharp pain in my jaw and was unable to fall back asleep.. It is more of a dull throbbing pain. Could it be because of my wisdom teeth? i'm in college and both my dentist and doctor are over 2 hours away. what could/should I do about the pain?
when you get into your second trimester you can have dental work done,i dont know about the surgery for wisdom teeth, but i got a cavity filled at 13 weeks, you just have to wear double gowns when getting your xrays, and they can perscribe you some pain medication after 12 weeks as well, tylenol 3(w/codine) is what i was perscribed
My husband had his upper and lower wisdom teeth removed on his right side 5 days ago. Over the course of time his swelling got worse. Visited the dentist who said everything looked fine but prescribed penicillin just in case since it was the weekend. Two days later (today) we went into the ER because the swelling was getting bigger and very hard to the touch. It was an abscess, but the ER doc said it's too late to lance it or drain it because it consists of many pockets of infection.
i have a white bump bymy wisdom teeth and my dentist said i have to get my wisdoms removed..but the other day this bumpcame and its painful to touch and i also woke up and could hardly swallow what is it?
I also have teeth problem all my life and I don't work so dentist is also outa da q...I gt a wisdom tooth that broken 2 the gum and other teeth are all broken...my symtoms I gt were fever yesterday pains in temple area dizzyness I also developed a lump in my neck last year after I quit smoking...I'm having my 2 teeth extracted friday the wisdom tooth and 1 molar...oh will the infection go away if all my teeth are extracted?
Does anyone else with autoimmune problems have severe tooth decay so bad teeth need to come out? My teeth have been having such severe decay that they need to come out. I take really good care of my teeth because I have had such problems but despite brushing, flossing, listerine daily, by the time of my next dental visit there is another tooth rotted.
I had my two top wisdom teeth pulled over 12 years ago and I still have a gaping hole where one of teeth used to be, I have been back to the dentist numerous times over the years because I think it gets infected. It starts to hurt really bad, then there is a blister type thing that fills the hole and eventually it goes down, but then my jaw will hurt for a week or so and I won't be able to open my mouth all the way no matter what I do.
The 2nd tooth from the back of my mouth which had a (failed) root canal now has a abscess. Needless to say, I was a bit shocked, since I didn't have any pain, or anything like that, just a lump that came and went away and came ... Well, since the doc said the tooth couldn't be saved anymore, he suggested a three unit bridge. This means that the two other teeth that are still fine would be given crowns, and it would cost around $5K when everything is done.
