Abscess under tooth treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess under tooth treatment

abscess

I have never had a tooth abscess until now. I called my dentist and they are trying to help me to keep cost down bc I have no insurance and xmas is right around corner so money is tight. I have a back molar that broke about 3 months ago ive been trying to save up for root canal but now I think I will need it pulled. The tooth stopped hurting and then I got the pus pocket under it that would flare up but then go down.
see both then make a choice endo and a surgeon thats what I did and made the choice for the tooth to be removed and an implant put in. I made the right choice in my case the tooth could not be saved and the implant is amazing better than my real tooth. I chose the later after hearing there was no garantee another root canal would take and if it did maybe for a year or two and I did not want to go to one then have the other a few years later.
Having no idea what was wrong I went to the doctors and was put on amoxcillin (they weren't sure what was wrong as the abscess isn't visible, it is really high up under my lip and quite large). Some of my swelling has gone down since and the pain has completely stopped, although obviously the abscess still causes discomfort because of the pressure, does this mean my front tooth has died? It has changed in colour, it's now slightly greyish.
) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side. Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks. Any ideas/suggestions? And, why would tooth 14 exacerbate 29? Or, is it a separate problem?
i had an abscess on a tooth that had already had root canal treatment went to the dentist he said i had the abscess after taking an x ray and said the tooth needed to be removed. without asking whether there was anyone to go home wiith me or if the rest of my day was free, he, under just normal injected into the mouth painkiller proceeded to pull the tooth i felt most of it and screamed i had previously asked can i have gas and air or something he said id be "fine" .
I am a 32 yo female. I recently finished nursing school and have been under a lot of stress. Two weeks ago I began having allergy sx. The s/sx progressed to sinus pressure swollen glands, cough runny nose with yellow sputum from cough and nasal. I began to feel better so nixed Dr. visit as my insurance had not started. Two days ago I began having swelling in my gums. Yesterday I found a discolored area on my gums above my front right tooth.
Today I woke up and my gland in my neck, directly under my ear is swollen and it kind of hurts.I have a bad smell and taste coming from the tooth.Plus it is so swollen that it feels like I have a hard bump on my gum underneath that tooth. My question is.Does this sound like it is infected or abcess?I'm very worried because I am hearing all these crazy stories, like the infection could go to your brain. Is that true?I am going to go in to the dentist soon.
secondly there are no herbs or natural remedies that will be effective with the treatment of this abscess, kitty will need to be on a medication from your Vet. an abscess can be a life threatening issue, please don't hesitate to have a Vet look after this for kitty. I could give you some idea's on natural remedies to help strengthen his immune system(only) after the surgery if you like, however do be sure and use the antibiotic as prescribed.
No, it shouldn't be painful since you'll be numb. But any treatment on a tooth can result in more problems also so the need for the procedure should be weighed in along with the expected potential benefits and risks. You may want to ask your dentist to see if it should be done and what are the risks/benefits of doing versus not doing it.
I have discomfort with hot foods and the top of the tooth is starting to blacken. Eight years ago I was told I needed one but the pain had left, so I put it off. It has returned slightly and I don't know what to do. I am military and must move to England next month. I have no idea of dental care over there, and I feel like I'm under pressure to get this done before I leave.
I would need to make through 4 more days. The tooth had a root canal and a very large filling with posts. The tooth had been decaying under the surface. During the night, the large filling and posts (all connected) came out. I am not in pain, but I am not sure what to do about the hole in my mouth. Help?
I am 10 weeks pregnate and have a wisdom tooth that broke off at the gumline a while back, and for the last three days, it has started swelling and is actually swolen over the tooth. My neck is swollen, and I have a not in my neck under the jaw bone. I have taken tylenol for days and I cant get the pain and swelling to go away. I am thinking it may be absessed. Should I go to the ER?
What I don't understand is why you don't get antibiotic treatment for this (you need that before dental treatment anyway)? Ibuprofen in high doses increases blood pressure, and at 190/110 you are way too high (though I understand this is not your resting BP). It's better to ask your doctor for some sedatives before going to the dentist, because your condition can be serious and needs treatment.
I developed an abscess in my lower left molar which hurt quite a bit. It was on a tooth than previously had a root canal performed on it. I was put on antibiotics, but the abscess moved into my cheek and my face became huge. My Endo. was unable to drain the abscess because of where it was located (under my cheek muscle), but went ahead and did the re-do root canal anyway after I was on antibiotics for four days.
Hi, I have a cracked tooth that developed an abscess. I originally posted on the question about swollen cheeks and abscesses, but I haven't had a response and my situation has changed, so I'm posting a new topic. I've been to two dentists and one endodontist this week. (I thought it best to go to a dentist on my insurance plan when I realized how expensive this would all be, which is why I went to the second dentist.) The tooth is cracked and dead. It has had no prior dental work.
I have a wisdom tooth that is abscessed. I have 250 mg amoxicillin capsules that are not expired from a previous illness. The RX was for me so I am going to use them. What is the correct dosage for a 41 year old man weighing 210 lbs? thank you.
I have swelling under my jaw as well as along side of it. SEVERE pain running down my neck and behind my ear. I went to the dentist 2 wks ago and was told I have an abscess. I was given an antibiotic and 2 days worth of Vicodin. I have taken all 10 days of my medicine, the swelling has gone down some...I still have a large hard lump along my jaw. The pain is still very intense. I am taking reg. strenght tylenol for pain. It does not really help. My dentist can not do a RC until mid Jan.
I stopped taking the Amoxil yesterday because I don't like the side effects of lightheadedness. Right now, it doesn't hurt to bite down, but the bone under my gums above the tooth is sore to the touch, and it feels like I have a lot of soft tissue puffiness in my jaw and inside my mouth right now, plus my lymph nodes are still swollen and hurting. I've been using mouthwash vigorously since yesterday, I think that's what I did differently last time.
I've always been a worry wart, but never like this. The dentist didn't mention an abscess, just a tooth infection. Are they the same thing??? It's really weird, bc I don't have pain or swelling in that area.
Not sure how to word this. I have developed and abscess under a crown with a root canal on my lower right molar second from the end. I am now seeing an endodonist to treat the abscess and he has warned me about a possible "crack", or fracture that would require removal of the tooth. I am experiencing high levels of anxety after reading other forums on the possiblity of "jaw infection" as the xray did show a clearly deifned area of swelling where the abscess located..
She said tooth got reinfected - probably chronic abscess so I'm deciding to get the tooth extracted altogether by an oral surgeon but I can't do it till the end of the month. I was put on antibiotics for a week which ends this Saturday so I'm wondering if the infection will spread to the roots of my other teeth in the next 2 weeks while I'm of meds and wait for my scheduled appt? Ive attached my xray of the infection. [URL=https://imageshack.com/i/0vh4ycj][IMG]http://imagizer.imageshack.
Since then I have been pretty healthy until recently. About 8 weeks ago I started getting these severe pains in my right side under my rib cage. When I take a deep breath it is like someone is stabbing me. I have no fever and this pain is re-occuring. Some days I am fine, others I can't move. I have been to the emergency room twice. The first time they told me my liver enzymes were real high but there was no sign of pancreatits and they sent me home with pain killers.
I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
A complete clinical examination may be necessary for accurate diagnosis and treatment. It may be possible that the infection is not controlled and the abscess is not resolving. Treatment of the cause like the decayed tooth is important for controlling your symptoms. Hope it helped. Best luck and regards!
I had a crown fitted several years ago on my lower left molar 2nd to last, I have no wisdom teeth, and now, several years later, I experience moments of pain and discomfort lasting a week to 3 weeks. I am begining to think the tooth under my crown has become infected as even the tooth where the crown meets is beginning to turn black. I also get a bubble of pus on my gums under the crowned tooth that fills and fills until it bursts on its own.
Infections spread rapidly in the mouth!!! Do you mean an abscess or a tumor. Abscess if you don't know is usually an infection under the tooth in the roots. I know it can be expensive but you shouldn't be in this discomfort! They use different antibiotics for different infections. I do wonder why you didn't go back before this! Dental pain can be so bad. Take care.
