Abscess under a crown

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess under a crown

abscess

Avatar f tn Its originating in a crown that Ive had for more than 10 years and now its causing me earache and tender/swollen glands under my left jaw. Im in agony and Im popping pills like mad! This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum.
Avatar f tn I had a crown put on a broken tooth 10 days ago. I still have an ulcer and quite a bit of pain on the gum under the crown. The novacaine injection hurt terribly, like never before. Could there have been some damage that I still have pain. The office told me to keep gargling with salt water. But after 10 days, the ulcer from what I think was trauma from the instruments is still here. Can this trauma cause an abscess?
Avatar n tn Everytime I chew, it hurts and sometimes when I brush my teeth it hurts as well and it bleeds a little. Today, there was a weird bump feeling under my tongue and I checked in the mirror and there was a red kind of clearish bump under my left side of my tongue close to my cracked crown. There is no pain associated with the red bump. Do you know what's wrong and how I got the red bump? Please help.
Avatar f tn Your English is just fine. You need to go to the dentist!!!! Infections spread rapidly in the mouth!!! Do you mean an abscess or a tumor. Abscess if you don't know is usually an infection under the tooth in the roots. I know it can be expensive but you shouldn't be in this discomfort! They use different antibiotics for different infections. I do wonder why you didn't go back before this! Dental pain can be so bad. Take care.
20847907 tn?1534539744 can tooth abscess cause a lymph node to rise i had it removed and the dentist said that there was an infection inside the tooth under the crown ( he said the tooth was split via xray ) but as he took the tooth out he said it had infection of it and gave me antibiotics
Avatar f tn Reason being, the area just underneath the cheekbone is still tender - almost a week later. The Dentist had to provide additional numbing medication during the crown prep and she also did a filling on #12 during the same visit. There is an area near #12 that feels really strange when I lightly press on the cheek.
Avatar n tn Do you think this is a definite sign of a tooth abscess due to the trauma of the crown? When I called about the appointment, they were already talking about the possibility of being referred to an endodontist for a potential root canal. Is this my only option? Can I not just kill off the infection with antibiotics? I broke the bank on the crown (no dental insurance), and I simply cannot afford another expensive procedure.
Avatar m tn The temp crown was fine for a few days, except the bite was too high. After a few days a bit broke off and after that there was a swishy feeling whenever I bit down but no pain. I explained this to the dentist when I went for the perm crown. Perm crown was put in and i found it much bigger than original tooth (level on the outside but sticks out on inside by about 1/2 a tooth) which is uncomfortable and a lot higher, so is the first tooth hit everytime I bite down.
Avatar m tn Since I was not in pain and there was nothing evident on the x-ray, she said she would put temp crown on and when perm crown came in she would put it on with temp cement for a few months to see if there was a problem. Avatar m tn Hello, A dental examination is important for detecting the cause of your symptoms. It is possible that there could be an abscess or retention of debris under the bridge. A loose crown can lead to lodgement of bacteria under it and cause bad odour.Other causes of bad breath from mouth are tooth decay, sinus disease or gum diseases or reflux disease. Tonsilloliths can also cause bad breath, sore throat, white debris, difficulty in swallowing and tonsillar swelling .These are only possibilities.

Avatar n tn This situation began with a routine crown while I had the temp crown on I developed severe pain. This pain lasted several days and I went to the dentist that decided I had an abcess, I took the antibotics for 10 day but I NEVER had gum swelling until I had the root canal and perm crown. My gums around the new crown are still very tender...
Avatar n tn A large portion of the tooth chipped off. As expected, I needed a crown. So the doctor drilled the tooth away and say there was a cavity underneath the filling, and so he said he had to go very close to the nerve. I have no sensitivity to hot/cold, but I can "feel" the tooth biting down on it. Not sure if that makes sense. It doesn't necessarily hurt, I just feel pressure on that tooth/temporary crown much more. To be honest, I think this dentist is dishonest.
Avatar m tn October 1 is getting close. It seems like it is not to the point where it really hurts. I think you'll be okay. Make sure you don't swallow the fluids that are in the abscess if it ever to pop. Good luck! I use to have an abscess on my top molar and they had to give me a root canal and a crown. It wasn't so bad and sometimes I forget I even have a crown back there. It looks and feels like a tooth.
Avatar n tn s endodontically related to a problem with the tooth, but a periodontal abscess could also cause a similar issue. There are also perio-endo and endo-perio combined events that can occur. Go see your dentist and have the area and tooth examined.
Avatar n tn i just noticed , my dog suddenly had a swollen ball under his eye. what could this be from?? he is eating and drinking and acting normal except the ball under his eye stands out very much and it only occurred minutes ago.. does anyone knowwhat it could be from?? and what i can do???
Avatar n tn A crown fell out a week ago. It never felt right to begin with but the dentist told me to wait a few weeks - maybe it would correct itself. Well it fell out. Anyway, there is a terrible odor in this crown - no matter what I do it's still there. It's very embarassing but something I have to deal with. Any ideas? This discussion is related to Bad smell near crown.
Avatar f tn You should go back immediately to your dentist and get it taken care of. A root canal sounds most likely and then possibly a crown afterwards.
Avatar f tn I had crowning last week on my incisor tooth. The next day after i had the crown i felt an throbing pain on the crowned tooth. I went to the doctor and he advised me of doing root canal. 2 days later he cleaned my canal and injected antibiotics in my canals. My question is that 1) In how many days abscess is going to heal? 2) why he didnt prescirbed me any antibiotics? 3) if the infection is healed can i put crown without doing root canal?
Avatar m tn I cracked a tooth last week! Quite a lousy crack too, as in about a quarter of it disappeared down my throat. Unless that is considered a chip? I consulted a dentist yesterday. There was an old silver filling in that tooth, which is quite a deep, and somehow a piece of the tooth came off. He did a white filling, but still, my mouth aches. After that, he suggested to me for teeth cleaning for two weeks and then crown next week. If the crown is not done, then apparently the teeth crack again.
Avatar m tn I went to the Dentist last month, and got a dental abscess removed. The dentist she did the pocket test, and send it was fine for now and I don't need to see a periodontist. I had a scale clean as opposed to a regular clean, I'm not sure if she did root planning though. The problem is blood keeps happening in these areas and gets worse especially if I go 3-days without brushing my teeth for example it builds up the blood and just seems to ooze out.
Avatar f tn My face swelling has gone down a lot, its just the abscess itself now. It feels like a grape pushed up under my top lip, pushing into my nose! I hope it can be sorted out tomorrow. I'm glad a root canal isn't always like the horror stories that I have read!
Avatar f tn Had abscessed tooth on top under gold crown. At the same time bottom gums swelled and I was told that one of my back molars needed extracted. Had 3 teeth pulled. My gums are still swollen on bottom which all doctors say they look pink and healthy. I feel pressure in my jaw. I feel like I'm being strangled in my throat. Now I feel like I'm in a tunnel when I speak. All these symptoms came one after the other and I don't know what to do.
Avatar m tn The pain will radiate from the tooth to the entire side of my face (right front tooth and right side of my face). I can feel a very sore spot under the upper part of my lip as well as soreness right below my nose if I press on it. The pain is off and on but sleeping has become difficult. I will be seeing a dentist when my insurance kicks in (11/26) but I need to figure something out till then. I concerned that there is an infection under the cap/crown.
Avatar n tn The problem with not retreating the root canal is that if you go ahead with the cost of the core and crown, and if the root canal fails at a later date, you likely would have to have a hole cut into the new crown/core to have the root canal retreated. This could mean that you would need to pay for another core/crown. Sometimes due to a patient's cost contraints, we can't follow ideal dentistry.
Avatar n tn s dentist could find a reason behind this. There were thoughts about the crown material being cheep and eminating a smell once a bit loose, bacteria forming under the crown, sinus punctures when the root canal was done, and the last thing I read was someone saying their periodontist was going to take the crown out and file it down flat so there were no air pockets for bacteria to form. ~So, I hope your tooth has ceased from smelling.
Avatar n tn I had a crown put on an upper molar about 5 months ago. Since then, I have had pain that has increased each week. It aches on and off during the day and night (i live on ibuprofen to help dull the pain). The crowned tooth and now even the surrounding teeth are sensitive to hot/cold and bitter/sweet. Teeth around the crown have shifted and are our of alignment. If I rinse with salt water, it hurts. It is soooo sensitive. What could be wrong?
