Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth root

abscess

Avatar n tn If there is a tooth root abscess it is very wise to have the affected tooth extracted. Although the tooth itself may appear to be healthy the root is already compromised. Once you treat the current Abscess with antibiotic's another abscess will probably return unless a curative treatment, such as a root canal is performed. Root canal's are rarely performed in pets since the procedure is more complex than an extraction, and therefore much more costly.
Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar f tn The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! This discussion is related to dental abscess.
Avatar n tn If there's an abscess, root canal treatment should resolve the problem. If not, a re-treatment of the root canal is possible or an apicoectomy in which they remove the tip of the infected root along with the infection in that area. Referral to a specialist for the procedure may be necessary.
Avatar n tn It is best to get an appropriate evaluation and treatment done. If there was a root canal done in the above tooth? In few cases root canals can fail due to branching and convolutions of the tooth roots. See your dentist at the earliest. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn Multirooted tooth may have one root pulpal necrosis and other root pulp vital. However, if one root pulp is necrotic, other root pulp will be necrotic over time. When all pulp are necrotic, electric pulp test will be a reliable test to determine vitality of pulp status. It may take another six weeks to reach definite diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Most x-rays will not provide excellent clarity of a crowned tooth, thus missing the decay. If you are having pain, the tooth under the crown is inflamed, infected and bacteria are usually the cause. Antibiotics may provide some temporary partial relief but will likely not cure the problem. A root canal is most likely needed, and a dentist can do this, but the best is to see an Endodontics, which is a specialist for doing root canals.
1307768 tn?1273363703 I had a root canal on my bottom left tooth(#19) 2 days ago, i've had 2 others with no pain, but this time it hurts. not the tooth itself but underneath in the gum by the jawbone, i noticed when i press on my cheek. my tooth feels excellent i can eat on it with no pain. i have a narrow jaw and as the endodontist said, long roots. maybe this has to do with the pain? its right by the nerve in my jaw, i can feel that much.
Avatar f tn appt to prepare my upper teeth for the impressions, my dentist decided to fix a problematic tooth not specified in the phase I project. He found I needed a root canal, which he did. During the procedure, he said my "devital" tooth had abscessed and he worked on that. I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink.
Avatar n tn Either pull the tooth or save the tooth by getting a root canal.
Avatar f tn I developed an abscess in my lower left molar which hurt quite a bit. It was on a tooth than previously had a root canal performed on it. I was put on antibiotics, but the abscess moved into my cheek and my face became huge. My Endo. was unable to drain the abscess because of where it was located (under my cheek muscle), but went ahead and did the re-do root canal anyway after I was on antibiotics for four days.
Avatar m tn I have fairly white healthy teeth, but I have an abscess behind my tooth, how can I get rid of it, or sooth the pain.
Avatar m tn perhaps it could be a gumboil.A gumboil is usually caused by an abscess at the root of the tooth. Often, this abscess is caused by food caught in pockets at the gumline. The infection forms at the root, and then eats away at the gum tissue, eventually creating a channel that leads to the gum surface. Once the channel reaches the gum surface, it appears to be a pimple or raised, white growth. Gumboils often (though not always) hurt, and sometimes the tooth feels raised or displaced.
Avatar m tn Yes i have they give me tablets then said come back Monday to have it out, but all the swelling as now spread to my neck so a bit worries
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar f tn Generally, peri apical abscess results from decay, and oral bacteria gain access to peri apical area through root canal system. Rarely. Bacteria gain access through periodontal lesion , which is known as retrograde infection.
Avatar f tn they only thing to get rid of the abscess is to take antibiotics to get rid of the infection and after baby is born they may have to do a root canal or pull tooth all together. mine had to be pulled out. but definitely get it checked out i was told by my dentist that it can get bad enough and get into your blood stream...
Avatar f tn You may want to have the endodontist (root canal specialist) take a look at the tooth and see if it needs a root canal. Sometimes excess cement can cause tooth pain in the area as well. Sometimes if the cavity is deep, it can take some time before the teeth develop symptoms and its unpredictable when that'll happen. Another issue may be pulpal degeneration, in which the nerve will begin to die and develop problems due to its long history of fillings, cavities, crowns, etc.
Avatar m tn The nerve and pulp of the tooth are removed, and the interior is cleaned and sealed during a root canal operation. Without treatment, the tissue around the tooth may get infected, resulting in an abscess.
Avatar m tn I had an abscess in my tooth and it has been extracted now it's infected and I am on antibiotics it is still bleeding after 48 hours now just wondering if I could get a bit of advice please
Avatar m tn I had a cracked tooth,I waited and put off something being done about it,and it became abscess,a pocket formed underneath it and also my jaw swelled up an I believe became infected, I went to the doctor, they numbed and drained the pocket, and gave me 2 antibiotics and a pain med, I'm no longer in pain (the cracked tooth is a little loose) but its been going on 3 days of antis and no change has occurred, is that normal? should I go back to the doctor?
Avatar n tn see both then make a choice endo and a surgeon thats what I did and made the choice for the tooth to be removed and an implant put in. I made the right choice in my case the tooth could not be saved and the implant is amazing better than my real tooth. I chose the later after hearing there was no garantee another root canal would take and if it did maybe for a year or two and I did not want to go to one then have the other a few years later.

Avatar n tn A periapical (per-e-AP-ih-kul) abscess occurs at the tip of the root, whereas a periodontal (per-e-o-DON-tul) abscess occurs in the gums next to a tooth root. The information here refers specifically to periapical abscesses.
