abscess

Avatar n tn A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. In a dental abscess, or tooth abscess there is accumulation of pus inside the teeth or gums. The abscess usually originates from a bacterial infection and is mostly caused by a dental infection. The common presenting complaints are severe toothache, breath odour, fever, pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling of gums, swollen glands etc.

Avatar n tn a sinus tact is like a "tunnel" through the bone and through or around the gum tissue from the abcess to the outside (in the mouth somewhere like the palate for upper teeth or the soft tissue vestibule by the roots of the teeth). it's basically a tract through which the abcess can drain. teeth with tracts usually have been abcessed for quite some time.
Avatar n tn I have had the same abscess over my bad tooth and pop it like a pimple 2 or 3 times a day. I went to the dentist 4 yrs ago and i needed a rootcanal back then. The cost is ridiculous. All my dental work was over $5,000. I can imagine how much it is now 4 yrs later. I don't have any medical insurance and can't even get approved for the monthly payment plan.. I have had this for almost a year now.
Avatar m tn The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time.
Avatar f tn Also if you have advanced periodontitis with up to and over 50% bone loss as well as decay that the periodontal condition will worsen the decay or the other way decay worsens periodontal condition? Thanks for your assistance.
Avatar n tn If there is a tooth root abscess it is very wise to have the affected tooth extracted. Although the tooth itself may appear to be healthy the root is already compromised. Once you treat the current Abscess with antibiotic's another abscess will probably return unless a curative treatment, such as a root canal is performed. Root canal's are rarely performed in pets since the procedure is more complex than an extraction, and therefore much more costly.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar f tn It started on Thursday, when I took a nap and woke up with a mild, general tooth pain in a lateral incisor, and had slightly affected my central incisor. I thought I had been grinding my teeth in my sleep, as I often do, so I swished around warm salt water, took a Tylenol, and called it a day. Friday, it was more prominent but not painful or obstructive. I did notice a numbness in my upper lip, and it was a tad swollen.
Avatar f tn I might add that the only action that has been taken has been by a private dentist which I resorted to paying as the nhs dentist was just stalling I think for extra work and time.
Avatar n tn It is still incredibly painful in between my teeth and there is incredible pressure below my tooth where the abscess is forming. Should I go to the doctor again? The pus has not started draining in it despite attempts with salt water, tea bags and hydrogen peroxide to draw it out. I am on antibiotics and it isn't helping.
Avatar n tn Multirooted tooth may have one root pulpal necrosis and other root pulp vital. However, if one root pulp is necrotic, other root pulp will be necrotic over time. When all pulp are necrotic, electric pulp test will be a reliable test to determine vitality of pulp status. It may take another six weeks to reach definite diagnosis.
Avatar m tn I have fairly white healthy teeth, but I have an abscess behind my tooth, how can I get rid of it, or sooth the pain.
Avatar n tn If there's an abscess, root canal treatment should resolve the problem. If not, a re-treatment of the root canal is possible or an apicoectomy in which they remove the tip of the infected root along with the infection in that area. Referral to a specialist for the procedure may be necessary.
Avatar m tn They give me amoxicillin 500mg i started them yesterday teatime then last night my face started to swell up on the right side where the bad tooth is never had this before. Now i look like an hamster what i want to know is how long will it take for the tablets to work i have taken 4 so far. Also most of the pain as gone but still really soar.

I am on 3 doses of each a day which I believe is alot to not see any results almost 3 days in?
Avatar f tn Hello, A dental examination is necessary for correct diagnosis and management of your condition. A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.

Avatar f tn Anyone have experience with any over the counter depression medicine that works well?
Avatar f tn I have had an abscess tooth for over a year. I haven't gotten the recommended root canal due to lack of funds. Twice in the past year, my cheek became very swollen, I went to the dentist and got a prescription, which eliminated the infection but never got a follow-up root canal. Since then I developed a small swollen mass on the inside of my gum which was there for about two months, but haven't had any pain in the tooth since then.
Avatar m tn If the pain is in the same area then yes it would be the infection the doc mentioned.
Avatar f tn These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar f tn I can't really help you with that. I don't know your case well enough to know what the best treatment is. I would guess that if a cleaning of that area doesn't help, I would go over the option of an apicoectomy on the tooth. Sometimes residual cement can cause pain and swelling in the area.
