Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth eye pain

abscess

I have an abscess; upper right; the tooth broke off only some left close to the gums. My cheek is swollen near right side of nose and mouth and up under my right eye; very bad pain. Dentist put me on penicillin. My question is can they pull the tooth out while I am swollen? and how bad will it feel when they pull it? I have a fear of dentist and I will get it pulled out because I am more worried about the infection spreading to my brain ect..
A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. In a dental abscess, or tooth abscess there is accumulation of pus inside the teeth or gums. The abscess usually originates from a bacterial infection and is mostly caused by a dental infection. The common presenting complaints are severe toothache, breath odour, fever, pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling of gums, swollen glands etc.
I have an abscess right above my eye tooth on the side of my nose what can I do about it now I have a dental appointment on Friday
I am a little worried because the botched filling (meant to be a crown) has signs on the tooth that this was the cause of the abscess and my cheek is still very large ( a little more embarassing presenting in public than anything) as there is no pain. The cheek has changed shape but is still large and moved down towards my jaw instead of up near my eye. How long does the abscess take to drain? as the dentist was looking for drainage that never came.
An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
I've had a tooth abscess since the beginning of this year sometime. I went to the ER because my jaw had become so swollen that it was completely ridiculous. They gave me penicillin which I took (28 pills, 3 times a day with food). When I finished that bottle I realized that there was still a sort of blister on my gum even though it was much smaller than it used to be.
I have been having tooth pain on my right side for a few weeks now, I am sure it is a cavity. At about the same time I got the pain in my tooth my right eye became weird. The veins are all red and bulged and it is heavy like when a hand or foot gets numbed from sitting on or standing on. Sometimes it feels like its not even there like that side of my face is missing. The weird feeling is always there but the redness of the veins changes, from dark red to lighter shade of red.

I have been cleaning it regularly with salt water and the pain is not in tooth, but mostly in the gum/cheek area above the back molar. I went to see the dentist (I am staying in Bahrain to visit my dad who works here, and went to a dentist here). The dentist, in my opinion, wasn't very good, and told me that I needed a root canal (Duh), and to take an anti-inflammatory, (duh again). He said i didn't need antibiotics as the infection wasn't that big and my body would fight it off.
My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
My mother started having moderate pain in a tooth 2 days ago. Yesterday the pain worsened slightly and her face started to swell. This morning her face was noticeably swollen and she was in severe pain. I took her to the e.r. and they gave her a penicillin shot, prescribed her more penicillin and pain killers, and sent her home. About 4 hours later, her face had become about 3 times bigger than it was this morning.
I went to an Urgent Care clinic due to an abscess in my cheek due to a tooth. My whole left side of my cheek was swollen and sore. The DR. Gave me antibiotics to take for 10 days she said I shouldn't have to have it drained. It has been 24 hours and the swelling has gone down a tad and I feel minimal pain ( mostly when I try to smile). My question is was it necessary for the abscess to be drained or will the antibiotics help it to start draining on its own?
So, antibiotics finished- and abscess, swelling and pain completely gone- now I have to find a dentist to pull the tooth... For reference- it was hell, and very worrying- I tried everything suggested from home remedies from swishing with salt water and waking up with teabags in my mouth- ONLY the antibiotics worked.... If you find yourself in the same worrying dituation- GET TO THE DOCTOR/DENTIST. It's the only think that'll work...
I am worried I have a dental infection spreading from neglected dental work, that was complicated by a mis-diagnosis. Sorry for dragging this on, and on. Does a tooth abscess ever not show up on a X-ray?
I am worried I have a dental infection spreading from neglected dental work, that was complicated by a mis-diagnosis. Sorry for dragging this on, and on. Does a tooth abscess ever not show up on a X-ray? Possibly draining out before X-ray is taken? draining into roof of mouth or sinus?

Hi I have a few questions first thing I have an abscess that is caused by my k9 or eye tooth and the abscess is all along the side of my nose and under my eye I went to urgent care and was given doxycycline hyclate 100mg twice a day along with pain meds but about two days after starting the meds my swelling became really bad my eye was even swollen.
I have discomfort with hot foods and the top of the tooth is starting to blacken. Eight years ago I was told I needed one but the pain had left, so I put it off. It has returned slightly and I don't know what to do. I am military and must move to England next month. I have no idea of dental care over there, and I feel like I'm under pressure to get this done before I leave.
Since then my check has gone from no swelling to so swollen I can hardly open my mouth. The pain at the site of the tooth is gone but there is still a lot of pressure above the tooth (#14). What do you think may be going on? Thanks in advance for your view & ideas.
I have a concern about my tooth abcess. My abcess is on the upper right side . The "eye tooth" I went to the emergency room on Sunday, and was give an antbiotic through IV . I then filled the prescription the following morning. This is day 3 and the swelling is still getting bigger. I hve no pain now but at first. The pain was severe. How long will it take for the swelling to stop increasing ?
My 9 year old son seems to have a dental abscess and his cheek is really swollen and a bit under his eye. He started taking antibiotics today, which is 5 ml of amoxicillian every 6 hours. Is this swelling dangerous? I have been reading that it can spread to the blood stream. He is in a lot pain and his breath smells bad. He has a dentist appointment tomorrow morning, but I just wanted to make sure the swelling is ok.
Ear, nose, throat, jaw and eye. Its been going on for about 5 months now. I have a cracked tooth, at the back of my mouth on the side where I have the pain. If I press down on the tooth, then it hurts a little bit .. although it doesn't start my 'real' pain up. I can eat, drink (hot and cold), brush my teeth etc and this tooth doesn't hurt at all. Its only when I actually press down on it with my finger that it gets a little sore. So, what choo think about my tooth? ha!
When i woke up Saturday Dec 25 the whole left side of my face was swollen so i continued to take my antibitotics and woke up sunday to find the swelling had only spreed to the underneth my eye and the side of my nose in the cornor of my eye so i called the denist back and he imidiatly took me in for an emergancy visit he has now put me on clindamycin 2 capsules every 6 hrs and it will help rid the infection and after that it will reduce the swelling and i have to see an oral surgon to remove th
When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time. Salt water relieved pain completely when i had my abscessed tooth but now salt water has no effect whatsoever. I went to the doctor and he believed it to be sinusitus and prescribed antibiotics and saline nose rinse.
Either tooth is not sensative to hot or cold, and can be tapped without any pain. My dentist don't want to open the tooth up without cause by the pressure is driving me crazy. I did have braces on for 4 years, so I'm thinking that could have done some trauma to the tooth. Also the back mollar does not have a filling in it.I'm thinking I will need a root canel done on my back mollar, but I want to make sure that will fix my problem.
The Pain is from the top of where the tooth was to inside my right eye. It feels like someone just punched me in the mouth constantly. And it burns in my mouth and my upper back above the bra-line. I cannot stress how unbearable it constantly is. Any ideas to what is going on? I am 20 days in and just want it to stop.
The swelling and infection was one week after the root canal was done. I did have a second visit to the endodontist after I started the antibiotics. The recommendation was to hold off on the crown repair for a week after getting off the antibiotics to determine if the symptoms would return. The maxillary pain has returned affecting my eye w/ headaches. Possible extraction was mentioned.
