abscess

Avatar m tn You should go see a dentist or an emergency room/clinic
Avatar f tn If you are experiencing abscessed teeth, seek assistance at an emergency room ASAP, who will treat you, as well as set up a follow-up appointment with a dentist (definitely someone other than whom you previously saw). Abscessed teeth can lead to other infections throughout the body. This issue should not be taken lightly.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you may have an infection, it could be due to a wisdom tooth or a bad tooth. It may possibly be an abscess, you need to go to the emergency room you may need antibiotics. Left untreated you could have worse issues.
Avatar f tn I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
Avatar m tn Hi i started with really bad tooth pain and went to the emergency dentist who said its infected and got an abscess. Avatar n tn How large is the abscess? Is it visible from the outside (enlarged cheek etc.?) You can try going to ER, but usually in such cases they may refer you back to the dentist. I would suggest calling your dentist and asking for an emergency appointment. Another thing you mentioned that a day of one antibiotic and a day on another. Were these antibiotics prescribed to you? I find it odd that you were only on either of the medications just one day.
Avatar n tn The abscess can occur at different regions of the tooth for different reasons. A periapical (per-e-AP-ih-kul) abscess occurs at the tip of the root, whereas a periodontal (per-e-o-DON-tul) abscess occurs in the gums next to a tooth root. The information here refers specifically to periapical abscesses.

Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar f tn My daughter had the same situation, I took her to the emergency room when they diagnosed her with the lumps she got discharded and the dr said to bring her back in case it got worst. Now she grew one more lump[ and hurst worst. What should I do where do I take her now?
Avatar f tn So I was in ER 3 nights ago for excruciating pain and tons of face swelling after seeing a dentist whom told me I had a tooth abscess..I was prescribed amoxicillin but that along with all the pain meds was not helping and my swelling became worse..so I went to the emergency room. I started experience very bad chills and high fever upon arriving there so luckily I went. They sent me to a different hospital for oral surgery and the Dr. Made a drain in my gum and inserted a drainage..
Avatar m tn Hello...a week ago I went to my dentist with excruciating tooth pain. He identified the issue as a tooth infection and scheduled a root canal for after the infection is cured. I had no swelling at the time. The pain lessened but was still noticeable since beginning the antibiotic (amoxicillin). This morning I woke up with the pain mostly gone from the tooth; however, my jaw is now swollen with what feels like a hard lump and is sensitive to being touched.
Avatar m tn We took him to the emergency vet, and they kept him a few days and took blood samples and were able to open his jaw to see if he had a tooth abscess and they took xrays also. He was given antibiotics and steroids. They said they couldn't find any cause or problem, and was very frustrating for us because not only was that visit and procedures over $1,000 the swelling is now returning. The swelling did go down while he was on steroids. He is eating and running about normally.
Avatar f tn Over the past couple days I developed an extremely painful abscess. In an attempt to clean my mouth using coconut oil the abscess burst. I believe I didn't swallow any of the liquid leaking out and throughly rinsed my mouth with salt water and then some hydrogen peroxide. I will be receiving insurance in about 2 weeks from my new job so I am hoping I can hold off going to the dentist till then.
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar n tn My grandmother had an abscess tooth, it was treated with a root canal and currently it's been three weeks after the treatment, and she's still feeling extreme pain and numbess in her lower jaw-half of her chin and lip. Her lymph glands are very swollen. She's taking an antibiotic but needs to know if there's any type of emergency fix because her next appointment isn't until next Thursday and she wants to know if there is any alternative, faster treatment for this.
Avatar n tn From the antibiotics? Or the actual abscess.. I read somewhere that it is possible for the abscess to still linger until all the dead cells are removed so the taste/smell can linger. Any ideas? I am not in horrible pain so I don't believe it is a dry socket. I can't really describe the taste other than unpleasent. Also, brownish small globs were coming out of the area the night after my extraction.
Avatar n tn Hello.. I recently had an emergency abscess drained and a tooth removed because of the infection. I had the draining done on a Sunday morning and the extraction done on Monday morning. Monday morning I was very nauseuated, prior to the extraction. The dentist said this was normal. My face swelling had went down alot, but was not back to normal size. After the extraction (day 3) I am still nauseated at times. My face is still swollen, though not as bad.
Avatar m tn Amoxicillin will not cure an abscess, He needs to see an endodontist.
Avatar n tn I tried this it did not work. I could not reach him for 4 days went to the emergency room they said I had a bruised ligament in my jaw keep taking the Aleve and put cold compact on it. The next day reached the dentist. Went to him and he filed down the tooth. But my jaw pain continued and it was difficult for me to open my mouth. The very next day I woke up and the front of my chin was numb and the front teeth on the right side where I had had the filling. Jaw pain was going into my ear.
Avatar f tn My husband has had problems with a tooth for about 9 months. Just recently some pus drained from the tooth. He has also had a low grade fever. I am wondering if a side effect from a long term abscessed tooth can be blood in his semen. A doctor put him on Amoxicillin 1500mg every 8 hours for 6 doses then 500mg every 8 hours for 14 days. Is this proper treatment?
Avatar m tn How much risk is there of the infection spreading in a dangerous way if this is some kind of chronic low level abscess? Should I push for emergency treatment or can it wait until I get to Hong Kong? Will the antibiotics help address any risk of the infection spreading? How is it possible that I have gone back so many times for exams and had them find nothing wrong?
1761287 tn?1313824787 They need to get the infection taken care of first because if they either pulled or did crown work on your tooth/teeth while the abscess is still there, tere is a much higher risk of the infection spreading, which can be very dangerous. So, please, if you haven't already - get in to see your doctor or dentist.
