Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth canine

abscess

Avatar m tn If it turns out that it is a tooth responsible for the abscess, it needs to be taken out as as the abscess is completely gone. Don't wait or the abscess could come back worse.
Avatar n tn I am 24 and have never in my life had a cavity or any other dental problems including any need for braces. I do still have 4 baby teeth that never had anything behind them and the tooth that is giving me some pain might be one of the 4. I have a small sore bump in the gum of my right lower canine. The pain is not much and can only be felt at times and is sore to the touch. The slight swelling is a big concern. What could this be and what can I do for it?
Avatar n tn So a few years ago tooth #10 had to have a root canal (the one between the front tooth and the canine) and after i had it done, an abscess formed on the gum above the tooth and I had to go back in (don't know if they redid the root canal; do they do that to fix an abscess?) in any case, it hurt a lot for a long time after the root canal, but eventually it calmed down. A few months ago, the tooth started hurting again.
1930934 tn?1323212204 I just to ask about the human canine tooth. Since it is the longest tooth, how long it takes to extract this?My canine was abscessed for almost a month. What are the veins connected to canine tooth? Since it is the longest, does it needs more anesthesia than other tooth? Need some of your educated answers.
2685475 tn?1339810902 I can confirm the exact cause of your pain only after a complete dental examination. Tooth decay, periodontal disease, fractured tooth are few of the common causes of pain in the canine. It is best to get it seen by a dentist. Treatment can be given once the diagnosis is confirmed. I hope it helps. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn Lower retainer popped off tooth next to right canine, has been pulling on the middle front tooth (R), now pain with tooth next to canine on the Left side. Also in the gumline (back of tooth, under tongue) has something popping out, it is soft and hasn't broken through the skin yet - is it the nerve? Please help :o) Serious answers only. Thank you. Also, will taking the retainer off get that tooth and nerve back to where it should be or is it damaged?
Avatar n tn To answer your question, there is a possibility, depending on the situation for a dental implant to be placed instead of this tooth. The pros and cons need to be evaluated but it is possible. The impacted canine may or may not need to be pulled depending on the situation and where it is. Whether you have enough bone, and where this bone is to achieve a great esthetic result afterwards is an important aspect to this.
Avatar n tn Presently, I have an infected canine tooth. I went to a new dentist apx. 10 days ago and was told it needed to be extracted. The dentist first prescribed amoxicillin for the infection. It has been over ten days, and I have pain and swelling in my lower cheek. Upon calling my dentist, I asked for a stronger antibotic (hence I have a tolerence of amoxicillin due to years of usage) he denied and let me know I needed to have tooth immediately extracted or the infection would spread.
Avatar m tn Yes, we refer to it as tooth preparation. We need to remove some tooth structure around the tooth in order to create room for a bridge. If we just put a bridge on top of the existing teeth, it wouldn't fit your bite.
Avatar m tn I have fairly white healthy teeth, but I have an abscess behind my tooth, how can I get rid of it, or sooth the pain.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Hi i started with really bad tooth pain and went to the emergency dentist who said its infected and got an abscess. They give me amoxicillin 500mg i started them yesterday teatime then last night my face started to swell up on the right side where the bad tooth is never had this before. Now i look like an hamster what i want to know is how long will it take for the tablets to work i have taken 4 so far. Also most of the pain as gone but still really soar.
Avatar n tn My teeth are of normal shape and size, but the part above my canine tooth seems larger then it should be. I'm refering to a ring like, half circle like, structure immediately above my canine tooth. It protrudes and makes my upper lip area protruding. Is this some kind of a genetic disorder or it has to do with the fact that I have a narrow face, or with something else? Is this the right subforum? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I had a cracked tooth,I waited and put off something being done about it,and it became abscess,a pocket formed underneath it and also my jaw swelled up an I believe became infected, I went to the doctor, they numbed and drained the pocket, and gave me 2 antibiotics and a pain med, I'm no longer in pain (the cracked tooth is a little loose) but its been going on 3 days of antis and no change has occurred, is that normal? should I go back to the doctor?
Avatar n tn A related discussion, tooth broken for a year, now aches and swollen cheek was started.
Avatar f tn It usually originates from a bacterial infection which has accumulated in the soft dead pulp of the tooth. It can be caused by tooth decay, broken teeth or any extensive periodontal disease. There is no definite time it takes for this abscess to form. It depends on the severity of the organisms and their virulence. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn s got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar m tn The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time.
Avatar m tn I had an abscess in my tooth and it has been extracted now it's infected and I am on antibiotics it is still bleeding after 48 hours now just wondering if I could get a bit of advice please
Avatar m tn I have almost no permanant teeth. Not sure if this is true but I had a full mouth x-ray and I had only 3 roots. I did however, save my teeth that fell out when I was little and supposely gave way to permanant teeth. It's strange though since I saved 9 teeth and I only have 3 teeth with roots. Does this mean that I have permanent teeth without roots? If not then what pushed my teeth out then?
Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar f tn The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! This discussion is related to dental abscess.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar n tn reason, bad odor coming from point where gum meets tooth. no odor anywhere else even though i have several crowns. this is the right side canine which has a "post". no problem with the "temps" even after six weeks but put the"real" crown in and stinko after a few days. same dentist. could this be from the cement???
Avatar f tn Most x-rays will not provide excellent clarity of a crowned tooth, thus missing the decay. If you are having pain, the tooth under the crown is inflamed, infected and bacteria are usually the cause. Antibiotics may provide some temporary partial relief but will likely not cure the problem. A root canal is most likely needed, and a dentist can do this, but the best is to see an Endodontics, which is a specialist for doing root canals.
