Avatar n tn within three days i was in the hospital for a week, CT scan showed a colon abscess, i dodged emergency surgery and responded to IV antibiotics. now i'm two months out of the hospital and a GI and surgical followup recommends bowel resection. i've read that the bowel does not repair itself. what should i do? also could the abscess have actually been caused by the colonoscopy. thanks.

Avatar f tn Losing weight helps to reduce the occurrence rate in overweight people. I had to get surgery due to the frequency and severity of the abscesses in my right armpit. The doctors removed my sweat gland and all of the skin that had hair. I have not had any more abscesses in that area since but continue to have them in other areas. Depression is common with the condition due to the painful, embarrassing nature of HS so it is important to monitor her for signs and symptoms.
Avatar n tn If the affected ductus is not sufficiently excised, the SBA is destined to become a problematic chronic recurrent abscess.
Avatar m tn The healing and recovery time differs from person to person, and of course it would also depend on how extensive the surgery will be,depending on how deep the abscess is located.. I am really sorry if I can't be of much help, but I would advise you to ask your surgeon all the questions you have asked here, and I am sure that you'll be much better informed regarding drainage, healing, and especially when you can go back to work since your job is physically demanding.
Avatar n tn I had an abscess on my gums. I started on keflex and scheduled a root canal ASAP. After the root canal and finishing the keflex the abscess was still there. My endontist downplayed it like it's no big deal but he drained the abcess and put me on clymdamycin. Finished all the clymdamycin and the abscess is still there. Endontist says it could take months to heal and sent me on my way. I feel like I need a second opinion. I still have a pea sized abscess on my gums idk what to do.
Avatar f tn Dear Jaquta, Over the internet without ability to evaluate including physical examination it is difficult to assess your symptoms. After surgery and radiation treatments there is the possibility of a number of different sensations that might occur. It is best to bring your concerns to you the attention of your surgeon who can evaluate and discuss in context of your surgery, the abscess and current examinations.
Avatar n tn OH MY! I had an appendectomy 3 weeks ago and have these very same post surgery symptoms!
Avatar f tn Hi All, I have got a 4-5mm intersphincteric abscess which clearly shows up on an MRI scan. When i went in for surgery to cut it out, my surgeon said he couldn't find the abscess and that there isn't anything he can do to help me as he cannot feel it or find an internal opening from where the abscess is draining inside the anal canal, despite the fact he knows its exact location on the MRI scan! I was devastated when he told me this as this abscess is ruining my life.
Avatar f tn So here I am about 10 years later and my abscess seems to have gone away, it doesn’t bother me at all and there are no signs or symptoms of an abscess where mine used to be. A lot of you may think that is very dumb or negligent of me but I have a CRIPPLING fear of dentists. Anyways I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts were considering everywhere I look it says that an abscess cannot go away on its own?
Avatar f tn I to had to have ER surgery for an abdominal absess and one of the symptoms that they had not gotten it all are those that you describe as possiable W/D symptoms. W/D from percocet shold feel like a light flu but yours sounds wrose. Be sure your Dr.s know about your symotoms as they may want to do some tests to be sure they got all of your absess, and that your infection has not returned.

702286 tn?1239011660 If you have an active marble sized abscess at your ankle from missing a vein with an unsterile solution you will want to see a real doctor...............this is not the time to self medicate...........
Avatar f tn 13 months for me. My symptoms have been *better* for 3 months, though...not gone, but better, so I am hopeful that they will continue to resolve. This is such a scary disease because you can't really know how long it will last. Every time any of my lumps hurt or change, I am afraid that they will develop into a new abscess. Anyway, since my body is doing so much better, I am trying to think of new ways to give it a boost - I have been trying something similar to lymphatic massage.
Avatar m tn ) He gave me antibiotics which made me worse and did not heal up the infection. Finally I had to get the abscess drained - another day surgery and the week after the surgey I was in a lot of pain again. Gradually the next three weeks, the pain subsided and I felt great. However, this last week I have felt pain again and am worried the abscess has come back or the fissure hasn't healed. I go back to see the surgeon next week.
Avatar m tn I had thyroid surgery last week and when the doctor tried to remove the nonabsorbable prolene stitch today, it snapped apart and most of it was left in the incision. I was told the only way to get it out was to "reopen the incision under general anesthetia." My other choice was to watch the incision as it heals to see if the prolene stitch (monofiliment) starts to come out by itself and could then be pulled out. They also said it would look OK cosmetically if it were left in.
Avatar m tn I was the unlucky recipient of a blow to my left testicle and shortly after it had swollen a little and I noticed an abscess that was soft but sensitive. The swelling went down within the hour but several days later the abscess had hardened and appeared to be a smooth tight sac of fluid somewhat attached to the testicle. When pressed against the skin it looks white or yellowish, there is slight tenderness in the cords connecting to the left testicle but for the most part I don't feel it.

619150 tn?1247048274 I am also concerned if I should have the cataract surgery as I did experience a lot of swelling with the last surgery. I have been seeing my MD because I have been so exhausted and just felt wasted! No energy! He had recommended an oral surgeon who discovered it was an abscess. What are your thoughts?
Avatar m tn Just throbbing pain at different times. A CT Scan show a hole up by my jaw bone. When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth. Just wasn't sure if it should still be sore. I should say it is only sore when I touch up there.
