Common Questions and Answers about Abscess smell

abscess

In Nov 2008, I had a swelling below my right breast which was diagnosed as "Abscess". It would ooze out puss with blood and was very painful. After healing,a scar developed around that spot and A FOUL SMELL THAT OF PUS actually emanates from that area(i.e when you touch the area surrounding the scar) What could be happening inside?
Today I noticed that her breath smelled horrible and I saw a tooth in the very back that is black and green. The swelling from last weekend seemed to begin in the area the tooth is located. Could my dog have been misdiagnosed and really have an abscessed tooth?
Or the actual abscess.. I read somewhere that it is possible for the abscess to still linger until all the dead cells are removed so the taste/smell can linger. Any ideas? I am not in horrible pain so I don't believe it is a dry socket. I can't really describe the taste other than unpleasent. Also, brownish small globs were coming out of the area the night after my extraction.
i posted before. i had an abscessed tooth and the abscess spread into my cheek. my dentist put me on keflex but after 10 days there was still noticable swelling in my cheek. so now the dentist has put me on a stronger antibiotic. when i woke up this morning i felt a very large "bubble" on my inside cheek.
For 2 weeks I have been dealing with a very painful abscess on my ear, where after alot of research and several trips to a local medical clinic and ER, I have found that what I have is an abscess in the Preauricular pit/sinus. I have been given 3 rounds of antibiotics, one of which I am still taking (Clindamyacin). I have yet to see any improvement from taking the antibiotics, so I went to the ER yesterday where they attempted to do and Incision and Drainage procedure.
She prescribed me dicloxacillin and said take it 4 times a day for 5 days. It went away in a few days. She said its an abscess. I got another one now and its really small comapared to the one I had before but its on the right side this time she prescribed me dicloxacillin again and said it should go away soon. This time it didn't need to be popped because its really small and donts hurt at all like the first one.
I am wondering if a side effect from a long term abscessed tooth can be blood in his semen. A doctor put him on Amoxicillin 1500mg every 8 hours for 6 doses then 500mg every 8 hours for 14 days. Is this proper treatment?
He said a upper tooth on that side showed infection and it had already had a root canal and crown, so he retreated the tooth. He said the tooth smelled horrible while he was cleaning it out. He wasn't going to put me on antibiotics but I kind of insisted. It has been several weeks and the nodes in my neck are still swollen and now the ones under my jaw are swelling up and I have stiffness at the base of the back of my head and neck..
I had an abscessed tooth removed after being on antibiotics for one week, my jaw was a bit swollen before he removed the tooth the swelling had not gone down with the antibiotics. There was an awful smell which he said was the abscess. I am taking amoxcillin at the moment and it now 8 days since the extraction but my jaw is still swollen the same as it was before the extraction, is this normal should the swelling be going down by now, it is not really painful.
i have a couple of questions about abscesses. last week i developed an abcsess in my tooth. my cheek became very swollen. the doctor said the infection from the abscess had passed from my tooth into my cheek. they put me on keeflex. within 24 hours about 60% of the swelling in my cheek had subsided. i am now on day 6 of a 10 days worth of the keeflex.
we have just noticed a strange smell from our miniature jack russel ***** she is about a year old, the brown stain she leaves on your lap is very much like rust. we thought it was similar to the redish brown water that comes from the old mine workings in our area ie redcar & cleveland uk. anybody any ideas as to the cause would be very grateful for any advice.
The day after that I went to my local MD and he put me in the hospital due to pain and swelling. The day after that they noticed an infection smell on my breath and gave me antibiotics and later steriods. I was released 3 days later but the following day readmitted due to pain. The day after that I was given a CT scan and my MD found an abscess on my right side. Immediately the following day I was sent back to my oral surgeon's office which is attached to a hospital.
Abscessed tooth maybe?
Hello, There are many causes of rectal discharge chief ones being inflammation of rectum, infections, anorectal abscess and fistula, polyps, cancers and ulcerative colitis. You need to get it examined from a doctor to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
When first put in it was fine, but in the last 6 - 8 months there has been a bad smell (rotten order) coming from that specific area when I floss between the teeth or when I rub that area. Went to dentist and he says it is a gum problem and he gave me special tooth paste and told me to rinse out with salt water. It is not working. I want him to take it out and start over. What can I do?
im taking him to the vet mon but just thought id see if any one else had experienced this. its not a pooey smell or a doggy smell i cant describe it but its not nice can any one help!!!!!!!!!
Diagnosis is usually through obtaining skin scrapings on the affected area and evaluating it under the microscope. Fungal infection usually responds to anti-fungal medications. Anal abscess is an infected cavity filled with pus found near the anus or rectum. Pus drains out if the skin over the abscess breaks. An abscess usually results from an acute infection of a small gland just inside the anus. An anal fistula, on the other hand, usually results from a previous abscess.
I found a lump in my crotch today that seems to have doubled in size since this morning. It has also developed a very foul smell, only at the location of this lump. The lump is now close to an inch in diameter and a half inch deep. It is located just to the penis side of the juncture of the leg and scrotum, at about the same height as the penis. What the heck is this? It's Saturday night or I would be making an immediate MD appointment.
At first they were ok, but then I started noticing a terrible taste and smell in my mouth. I would brush my teeth and rinse, but nothing worked. When I finally went to my Dentist, I told him about my concern. He smiled and said that it was probably just the cement that had disolved (for lack of a better word) and didn't say anything else. He made an appointment with me 2 wks later.

During and after that I started smelling these mysterious smells... sometimes smelled like burnt dust, mold, vomit, or a smell I can not describe... but all of them were foul. They were not accompanied by a bad taste or any strange residue on my tongue (as sometimes a bad smell can come from the mouth). No one else could smell these smells, and they went with me everywhere. Even when I left the house I could smell them.
After a while I figured out that the source of the bad breath was the gum area right above the crown. If I rub my finger in the gum area just above the crown, it smells really bad. I can even smell it in the floss after I have flossed the crown tooth. My dentist did the ususl once-every 6 months cleaning but the smell persists. He took an X-Ray and he ruled out any tooth decay and he says that the gums look fine. He sent me to a gum specialist and she too didnt find anything.
Hello and hope you are doing well. Foul smelling sputum indicates an infection. This can occur due to pneumonia, lung abscess and sometimes due to a tuberculosis infection. You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a sputum culture and sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to. He may even ask for blood test and an X ray.

My 4 year old cat periodically gets a horrible smell and has a milky discharge from her rectum. She's an indoor cat that won't even attempt to go outside even if the door is opened in front of her. Her sister/littermate lives with us too but shows no signs of these problems. It seems to happen every couple of weeks and lasts for just a day or two. It seems to happen immediately after drinking milk (within an hour or two) but a couple of times it happened when she had no milk at all.
The situations where this occurs is when i walk fast or climb the steps and stand for a while this smell arises all of a sudden and stays for a while and fades away...repeatedly. Other situation is when i sit on the desk or take a seat in the bus for a few hours this happens..but when i check for it i actually wouldnt have shitted i wonder where is this odour coming from. Please help me as soon as possible..all my loved ones are taking a step bak from me..i dont know wat to do.
Hi I have recently noticed a repulsive smell when I rub my finger along the gum in one area at the back of my mouth. I don't get this smell from anywhere else, or even when flossing near that tooth. I do have a crown on the tooth and read here that it could be the cause of it - I am seeing my dentist on Monday, but I am concerned nothing will be done to get rid of it straight away! Any advise?
