Common Questions and Answers about Abscess pathology

abscess

Avatar n tn I have ignored a toothache for a few years due to a fear of dentists (no offense intended) and recently had an abscess diagnosed from a CT scan done for a suspected sinus infection. It turned out to be a very large abscess of 2 teeth, so big, that the dentist and his partner at first told me it was way to big to be an abscess and had to take repeated x-rays to identify it. I am on antibiotics and they told me with a root canal my teeth could be saved.

Avatar n tn Yesterday my husband, aged 54yrs had drainage of an abscess? diagnosed following ct scan for a lump between anus and scotum which tripled in size over the previous week. Has been in pain since the May 08 followup colonoscopy which led to bleeding for 2 days, and then a month of ++ bleeding in September. Severe pain - on Tramal twice per day plus paracetamol 4 x day.
Avatar f tn My dentist took an x-ray of my mouth and found no sign of a tooth abscess, even though when she drilled the infected tooth (which had a filling), there was a foul smell, indicating an abscessed tooth. There is also a swelling below my left jaw, and it is difficult to swallow and open my mouth. The dentist didn't explain much regarding why the x-Ray didn't reflect the tooth abscess.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have been having upper mouth pain for about 3 days. There is no abscess or infection of my teeth. I went to the dentist 3 weeks ago and was given a clean bill of health. I went to the dentist today and he said he is not sure what is causing the pain. He took a bunch of x-rays, but could find nothing wrong. He said it's not a cracked tooth, cavities, or an abscess. I have already had all my wisdom teeth pulled. Sometimes the pain is also referred to my lower jaw.
Avatar n tn Lump behind the ear could be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), an infected cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). Since there is a swelling in neck, it can be an abscess or an inflamed lymph node. However swollen lymphnodes behind your ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, infection of ear or even metastasis from a cancer. It could also be of tubercular pathology.
Avatar f tn About 4 weeks ago, I went to my dentist for an abscess that developed on the gum next to this molar. An x-ray revealed infection. I've been on penicillin for 3 weeks and seeing an endo on Friday to have it evaluated. So far, my dentist said I may have to get the root canal redone. When I asked him if this would save the tooth, he said not necessarily. So, if I have the tooth extracted, what can be done to fill the void? He doesn't think an implant is feasible.
Avatar n tn In July 2008, my final visit to the dermatologist, I had a small, fluorescent pink growth examined, removed and biopsied. The pathology lab informed me there was nothing abnormal about the skin. Separately, I developed an anal abscess from a rough episode of anal sex, for which I was treated with antibiotics. I still have scar tissues from this abscess. At some point in 2008, I developed an anal fissure, which seems to disappear, but then immediately opens back up any time I have anal sex.
Avatar n tn I still need 2 crowns upper right, and one crown lower right with a few more cavities filled. My dentist says there is no signs of dental abscess, but I have been having a lot of bad symptoms that seem to be getting worse. I feel really ill all the time. All my teeth hurt, It comes, and goes for what seems like no reason at all. My face feels tight, and puffy sometimes. My eyes burn. I get headaches, and sensitivity to light.
Avatar m tn Dermoid and branchial cysts are common in this location but generally occur in childhood.Sebaceous cyst is likely. In tropical countries a tubercular cold abscess is thought of too. A fine needle aspiration study(FNAC) will help in getting a clearer picture.
Avatar f tn He removed the 2 largest lymph nodes, which he said the tissue was black in color along his jaw line and sent them off to a pathology lab and changed his antibiotic to something stronger. Days after the surgery the gland beside his ear and on the back of his neck continued to grow in size still with no pain with any of them.
Avatar m tn s were initially concerned it was inflammatory breast cancer but ruled that out with a core biopsy. The biopsy seemed to cause an eruption in the abscess which seems like a common reaction. Things started to resolved themselves in the coming months with the inflammation significantly decreasing. She recently had another flare up and the radiologist is now talking about cancer again although they were so certain this was not the case. My questions are...
Avatar f tn I just had my tonsils removed and my pathology report showed Branching filamentous bacteria, consistent with Actinomyces sp.. My ENT said they are not treating it in his office so I am confused. I didn't get any answers from him. I also have right side of my face pain, mainly cheek, jaw and eye it also looks puffy and swollen. I don't know really if the bacteria is causing it and what to do next. I have these symptoms for about 2 years now and thats the reason I got rid of my tonsils.
Avatar f tn He ran a CT scan that afternoon and they saw what they thought was an abscess on my right ovary. He got me to the GYN immediately Friday. She said she is not sure if it is a abscess or a cyst on my right ovary. Gave me some antibiotics and I am scheduled for an ultrasound today at 1:45 and dr visit at 3:30. I had a hysterectomy approx. 6 years ago but she left my ovaries because I was young. I found out at the visit on Friday that during the hyst. that she got rid of a cyst on the same ovary.
Avatar f tn Hi! Avatar f tn Pathology report shows infiltrating mammary carcinoma, no special type, low combined histologic grade, Low proliferative rate with apocrine cytology, measuring at least 6MM in greatest extent (best measrued on P63 IHC Slide) Calponin and P63 show absence of myoepithelial cells int he neoplastic tubules, consistent with an invasive interpretation. Immunohistochemical studies for estrogen receptor and progesteron receptor are negative. My questions: No special type? What does that mean?
Avatar f tn You can still request that your slides be read by another Pathology Lab. If you aren't seeing a Breast Specialist I suggest that you do so and this might help clear things up for you. I'm sure you are more than aggravated at how things have gone in the past. I'm not sure why the ADH wouldn't show up on Excisional Biopsy unless the area was so small that it was removed by the previous needle procedure/ OR/ the Excisional Biopsy did not include the area of ADH.
Avatar f tn Lump behind the ear could be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). You may not have been sick but local infections like dandruff or a dermatitis too can cause a lymph node to swell and be tender.
Avatar n tn I had an tiny abscess so deep in the root of my tooth (1st molar at the top closest to the front) that after trying to get to it via the normal rout i.e. through the part of the tooth that shows, they had to split my gum and go into it directly through the root and fill it that way after cleaning out the infection. It required four stitches - the split in my gum was around three inches long which I found a little severe for one tooth root.
Avatar f tn Had to go in a see my regular doctor today for an abscess that showed two different types of infections. Infection not going away so will have to have CT scan of (embarrasing location) Left buttock to see if it is actually deeper than thought. Yes it is still painful. It was cut and drained a week ago. I am currently on two antibiotics for it, but don't see a difference. Another note, she tested my TSH level 10-31-08 and it came back .
Avatar f tn A MRI or CT scan will rule out herniated discs, tumors, vertebral canal stenosis and an abscess as the cause of the transverse myelitis or similar neurological symptoms. If these are inconclusive, then a myelogram should be performed. If MRI and myelogram are both negative, then it is thought to be a vascular pathology. Tests are then conducted to look into this.
