Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on your cheek

abscess

Avatar f tn It was on a tooth than previously had a root canal performed on it. I was put on antibiotics, but the abscess moved into my cheek and my face became huge. My Endo. was unable to drain the abscess because of where it was located (under my cheek muscle), but went ahead and did the re-do root canal anyway after I was on antibiotics for four days. Presently, he cleaned out the old roots that were missed, but no pus or other type of discharge was cleaned out (I watched the whole thing).
Avatar m tn I have a large swollen/painful abscess in my lower right facial cheek area. i have received antitbiotics for the infection. Do i need to have it drained? If so what type of Doctor/Dentist do you recommend?
Avatar n tn I also wanted to add that I don't see any pus sack on my gums or cheek but there is some white stuff that looks like it could be an abscess inbetween my tooth and gums. The dentist hasn't seen me since my cheek swelled up and won't beable to until the 10th. thanks, again.
Avatar n tn m not sure if its escaping from your gums and mixing with the saliva already present or if its coming from the parotid gland in your cheek. The reason why is because of your swelling on your cheek and not on the gums. You may want to go back to your dentist and he may want to "milk" the parotid to see if its infected.
Avatar n tn i cant see it wen i look in mirror only feel it wen finger is rubbed along the top of my left side of my gums an wen i press down on my left cheek

Avatar m tn Hi I woke up and felt a lump on my cheek (right) , I can't see anything in my gums and on my cheek it doesn't look swelled up , though you can definitely feel a lump Any ideas what it is or how to get rid of
Avatar f tn i am having a rear upper tooth extracted tomorrow - the pain will be slightly less than I have had over the last two weeks - this has been flaring up and down since February, but the last episode meant that I looked like I had a golf ball tucked in my cheek - my left nostril was numb, my head was too sore to brush my hair or touch, my neck hurt when I moved my head, my ear was crackling - the nhs dentist refused to drain the abscess but gave me antibiotics, these didnt work and I had another cou
Avatar m tn The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time.
Avatar m tn two weeks ago today, I sat on a stool to put on my makeup as I do every work day and it felt like my right butt cheek was sitting on my robe sash or something. Further inspection revealed a very dark purple bruise on my upper inner thigh the size of an orange. The bruise is virtually gone at this point, but again today my butt cheek feels like I'm sitting on a bump. Whatever it is isn't topical. Thoughts? Time to worry??
Avatar n tn my questions are how exactly does the infection from the abscess get into your cheek and even though i am now on day 6 of my medication there is still some swelling in my cheek that feels hard to the touch. all the pain from the infection as been gone for some days now and i did notice a little more improvement in the cheek today, but how long should it take for the swelling to completely go away?
Avatar n tn You need to run a test for moniliasis to rule this out. It could also be due to caries in tooth, abscess in gums, pyorrhea, abscess in cheek, or infection of internal ear. It could also be due to osteomyelitis of the jaw bone or due to involvement of temporomandibular joint. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You would need to consult a dentist and an ENT specialist for this. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
1408267 tn?1281380960 A swollen cheek is a classic sign of a "absessed tooth"....This condition is extremely painful and she would need to see a Vet before it gets out of hand......Oral antibiotics are given....Depending on her age and if she's never had a dental, she needs to have her teeth checked.....Periodontal Disease is very common in Toy Breeds and dangerous if left untreated.......Good luck and let us know how she is.....
Avatar m tn My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today. The abscess was caused by food that got into a pocket between his erupting wisdom tooth and gum (the gum got cleaned out).
Avatar m tn I had a crown put on #13 in 1995, about 6 months later I had to get a root canal on that tooth. This year I had sensitivity to cold on #14 and my Entodonist recommended RCT. I had the RCT done in March, three visits total. My reglar dentist did the core to prep for a crown. In June I started getting pain in my cheek by my nose. An xray showed an abscess involving #12 & #13. My dentist and entodonist recommended RCT on #12. That was done in July.
Avatar n tn A dentist can't work on an abcessed tooth, they have to get rid of the infection first. They normally do this with antibiotics for 5 to 10 days. I don't quite understand the different antibiotics that you've had here and there. There are emergency dentists in every city, google this in your city and go to one. If this isn't an option, the ER will treat your infection until you can see a dentist...not sure the one you're seeing is the best for you.
Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms it sounds like a boil or abscess on the buttocks. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin.
Avatar n tn A tooth abscess is a pocket of pus that's caused by a bacterial infection. The abscess can occur at different regions of the tooth for different reasons. A periapical (per-e-AP-ih-kul) abscess occurs at the tip of the root, whereas a periodontal (per-e-o-DON-tul) abscess occurs in the gums next to a tooth root. The information here refers specifically to periapical abscesses.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago, I had a dental abscess in the upper right side of my mouth, between the tooth and the gum, and it was slowly draining from a hole in my gum... So, I decided to try and squeeze some of the infection out myself and as I was in the process of doing so, the abscess busted and drained internally (into my cheek). My face started swelling immediately and in about 15 seconds, it had tripled in size!
Avatar f tn I've been on Amoxicillin for 5 days for a tooth abscess. I went to the dentist for significant facial swelling, and was diagnosed with the abscess. The swelling has gone down, however I now have a pus pocket on my gum above my molars. It's only painful when I touch it, but I can see the swelling under my cheek when I smile. Since I'm already on Amoxicillin, can I pop the abscess using a sterilized needle? It's Friday night, and the dentist won't be in until Monday...

Avatar n tn I have had Abscess' in my mouth off and on for about a year now due to a few broken teeth. I was unable to get them extracted due to my hectic work schedule. I am going to be seeing the dentist soon to have them removed and taken care of. I have a couple questions about how I have been taking care of the abscess' though. The first 2 were not that bad. They were almost like a pimple I popped them and cleaned them out and all the swelling went down and pain went away.
Avatar m tn It sounds to me like you have an abscess or a boil started, and they can be very painful! I would suggest hot packing it, or sitting in a hot tub and trying to get it to come to a head. Keep taking the meds the doc gave you because either one will respond to an antibiotic. If you have some epsoms salts, it might help to use that in the water you soak with. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Avatar n tn my dog has a lump on the side of her neck...not in the middle--more under her cheek. she is a boston terrier and is overweight and has a couple of soft fatty tumors on her body but this lump on her neck is new. I just noticed it today and its abt the size of a golfball, soft and she doesn't cry when i squeeze it gently. what could this be? It doesn't seem to have a head like an abscess would.
Avatar f tn There is an area near #12 that feels really strange when I lightly press on the cheek. But, to answer your question, most of the cheek swelling was toward the lower jaw and there is a knot along the jawline that has been present since the 18/19 crown work and it became enlarged after the #14 crown prep. That's why I felt the #14 crown prep exacerbated the #18 and #19 infection. But, the gum itself did not swell anymore than it already is.
