Abscess on upper arm

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on upper arm

abscess

I have an approximate 1x1 1/2" indented area on my upper right arm (front side) which is pink in color. For several weeks there was not any pain, but now I'm experiencing a dull ache in the area below the indented area and it seems slightly swollen. What could be causing this? (I'm a 63 yr. old female and don't have medical problems).
I have a fairly high threshold for pain, but I have had this pain in my left upper arm from my shoulder to my elbow. I can't quite distinguish if it is in the muscle or bone. It started 2 or 3 days ago, and just seems to be getting worse. The pain worsens when I move my arm or cough, also when I rotate my thumb I get pain from the lowest joint of my thumb at the palm of my hand to my wrist.
About 1 year ago I began having pain in my right upper arm, between the shoulder and elbow, about mid arm where the biceps brachii muscle or brachialis muscle is. I went to my Primary Physician who said it was a torn brachialis muscle. Since I was working at a 2nd job, I thought it might be job related so I went through the whole Workman's Comp issue. They sent me to 4 doctors who did nothing for me, finally the case was settled and my lawyer got most of the money, but I still have the pain.
It started to get better but then I got the same pain in the right shoulder which travelled down my arm. At this point a lump appeared on my left side accross my 1st rib which was very painful to touch. The doctor I saw said it could be costocondritis. However the lump seemed to go away after a few days but the pain remained in my right shoulder. It then moved through my chest area around my heart and I had difficulty breathing as it hurt too much to expand my lungs fully.
I have been going through a lot of stress lately at work and my body has been reacting to it. Probably not related to stress but a wart suddenly appeared on my arm. Also I believe these are related to stress, I developed a rash(hives) on my neck and the bottom part of my ear all of a sudden began to swell. I did go to the doctor and she gave me some cream to rub on my ear and some different cream for my neck and she frooze that wart on my arm.
My father expieriencing attacks of very sharp pain in right side of upper abdomen that goes away and come back under lower rib cage with neusea, pain radiates to a lower back. Blood test is normal except CRP high that sugest inflamantory condition but CT scan of abdomen normal, urine analysis normal, gastro scan normal. He is not dianosed and deteriorating. Is anyone expierience simular.
Well, listening to him I decided that it may work for me (wrong answer). Now on my arm the infection is spreading and now (besides the large lump that did return) I also have another lump plus a bundle of small white bumps that are everywhere. Both are extremely painful and feel as if my armpit is on fire. I went to the doctor today and he put me on some antibiotic pills plus Vicodin. The vicodin is not working. What can I do to relieve the pain, I am scared and in pain..
It is important to consult a doctor immediately to rule out herpes, pleuritis (inflammation or infection of the lining of lung), pericarditis (inflammation or infection of lining of heart), an abscess under the diaphragm bad gastric ulcer, or a spleen abscess. You may need ultrasound of the upper abdomen, chest X-ray, ECHO etc. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
An abdominal ultrasound, x-ray, CT scan or MRI are often necessary for a definitive diagnosis, along with specialized investigations like a flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy or double contrast barium enema for gastrointestinal conditions. UPPER Left Abdominal Pain Upper left abdominal pain is most often due to a condition afflicting one or more organs or structure in the LUQ (left upper quadrant) of the abdomen.

I think it was probably an ingrown hair that got infected, usually from sweating and not showering soon enough, i have one at the moment and i've had ingrown hairs turn into abscesses before so i think i know what you may have, i recently got something similar if not the same on my penile shaft and don't know if i should get a needle and pop it, or wait and see what happens, usually when i've had them before they were on my pubic area and one on my arm and armpit with the previous two having had
looking substance called keratin. They may occur anywhere on body but scalp, ears, back, face, and upper arm, are common sites for sebaceous cysts. They can also be found on the hair rich pubic area. Blocked sebaceous glands, swollen hair follicles and excessive testosterone production will cause such cysts and excessive sweating can be one of the reasons for such a cyst.
It is tender to the touch and when he stretches his left arm up it causes him pain. He has a doctor appointment on Thursday. I just hate that every time you find something like that you have to be scared to death of what it is. Hope it's nothing and can then we can breathe again.
Further visit and GP concerned that 'abscess may have reactivated' - now awaiting further scan. Difficulty in assessing due to lack of sensation in left arm and hand. Further numbness in upper left chest with 'hot wire' sensation from tip of clavicle to shoulder - varying degrees of pain in right shoulder as well as neck.

So I bought some Aveeno lotion and body wash that is fragrance free to make sure it is not an allergic reaction to something. These bumps DO NOT appear on my genitals. Only in my upper thigs and on my legs. It has become so hard for me to do anything without itching. Help?!
and have seen many different locations for an abscess on the body and i have to say that the groin area is the most painful and most re-occuring location. I have assisted both Dr.s and P.A.s in lancing(making a small cut into the head of the abscess to release the pus) these painful abscesses. Here's the thing....if you've gotten one before----you're more prone to getting them again....
In jan i had swollen lymph nodes that started on my upper arm and then moved to my underarm I then started running a high fever and very ill I went to the Dr and said i had a abscess he gave me alot of meds and the swelling went away along with the pain. Hi. My MRI scan report impression says: 1. Probable TB of the upper L2 vertebral body with left perispinal granulations/cold abscess 2. L5-S1 shallow broad based centric disc herniation, with ligamenta flavum/facet joint capsular hypertrophy, causing thecal compromises. 3. C4-5 disc protrusion, also causing minimal thecal compressions Please guide me.
I have a small, solid, slightly red bump on my skin (not under) between my left breast and upper arm. It is not moveable and has been there for almost a month. I have a dermatology appointment on the 21st but I'm a bit anxious and wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what it could be?

It is difficult to diagnose on net. You should ideally get a 12 lead EKG and an upper abdomen ultrasound or CT scan done. Take care!
Most of the time, the location of this is random (arm, upper thigh, leg, face), except for one recurring one on my neck close to my collarbone. That is the only one that seems to be repeating in the same place. Can I rule out an insect bite (or more specifically bed bugs) given it appears and disappearance? Any other insight on what this might be? Thanks!
To make a long story short, I have been to doctors 7 times since tooth extraction for aches face, jaw, neck, ears clogging, upper left arm aching, swollen glands under chin, as well as two chest colds, and also diagnosed with sinusitis. I am now on my 5th round of antibotics in 8 months. And each time I finish I feel good for a week or two and the symptoms return.
The excisions went good. They decided only to do 2 today...one below right boob and one on left upper arm. The one on low abdomen they are going to watch for now and the one on left shoulder looks fine now, so maybe the white spot was just pimple or something. They are still numb, so we'll see. All three of my excisions from two weeks ago were infected and it was determined that I am allergic to all adhesives except the one for elderly patients and I am also allergic to the nylon stitches!
looking substance called keratin. They may occur anywhere on body but scalp, ears, back, face, and upper arm, are common sites for sebaceous cysts. Generally no treatment is required but they become painful then it means they are infected,Then surgical excision by traditional wide excision, minimal excision, and punch biopsy excision may be required.
