Abscess on the gum

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on the gum

abscess

Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar f tn Hello. The other day underneath my tongue on the bottom of my left gum line I felt pain when I pressed on this area with my tongue. A few days later, it is still painful but now a couple of white spots have developed. When I rub my tongue over the sores it almost tastes salty and as if my gum is punctured. What could this be? Am I in need of medical care?
Avatar n tn I have a bum on my gum on the left side of my face behind the last tooth. Some people are saying it might be a caker sore or an abscess. The bump became bigger and I noticed a white substance inside of the bump. It grew bigger than with the help of hot water and salt it began to drain. First question what is this on my gum? How long does it take to heal? and Should I go to the dentist after it fully heals?
Avatar m tn The infection forms at the root, and then eats away at the gum tissue, eventually creating a channel that leads to the gum surface. Once the channel reaches the gum surface, it appears to be a pimple or raised, white growth. Gumboils often (though not always) hurt, and sometimes the tooth feels raised or displaced.
Avatar n tn on the completion of a crown placement I noticed a pimple above the crown some weeks later! There was no pain or sensitivity but on a visit to the dentist he told me I would need to consider a root canal procedure! However until then I should increase my flossing, brushing and mouth washing! I have not had the therapy because of fear of compromising my immunity! Am I right not to do the therapy since I have no symptoms other than a small unsightly pimple?
Avatar m tn Going back to your implantologist to have a dental exam is advised.
Avatar n tn What happens to the gum abscess after the pus leaked out?
Avatar n tn When I massaged the gum with my finger, I got a really foul taste from the gum. So I went to the dentist. He examined the gum and the crown/tooth joint and didn't see anything that looked bad. When he massaged the gum, he didn't see anything, but I still got a slightly foul taste (but not nearly as strong). He then did a percussion test, tapping firmly on all surfaces of the tooth, and I had no pain.
Avatar m tn It's been a while since I've had a dental check up. I would say around 8 months now. I've used a mouth wash on it and it seems to have smoothen out a bit but its still there and looks white. I will go and have a dental check up as soon as I return home next week. What exactly is an abscess? is it somehting to worry about? One more question could this abscess have anything to do with my jaw feeling a bit week on the same side?
Avatar m tn He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today. The abscess was caused by food that got into a pocket between his erupting wisdom tooth and gum (the gum got cleaned out). He was never unable to open his mouth or talk, so far no swollen lymph nodes or anything like that.
Avatar n tn It is still incredibly painful in between my teeth and there is incredible pressure below my tooth where the abscess is forming. Should I go to the doctor again? The pus has not started draining in it despite attempts with salt water, tea bags and hydrogen peroxide to draw it out. I am on antibiotics and it isn't helping.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I've had an tooth abscess for about a week and a half now. The dentist have given me some antibiotics to take, they took the pain away straight away and the swelling down. But the abscess is still on the gum and it's nearly the end of my course what do it do? I've read up on abscesses like mind and it turns out they can be deadly! Any advice for me would be great.
Avatar n tn Looks like an abscess on the gum line after sinus lift procedure 4 months ago - nothing has cleared it up. Tried antibiotics And now for 2 months nothing except salt sinus rinse and occasional steroid spray. The sinus and this swelling are sore off and on. Does this indicate the graft has failed, can the abscess be cleared and leave graft? Please give opinion - I dread another surgery.
Avatar f tn Before my insurance lapsed I was able to get on amoxicilin for a gum abscess. Well it burst today with 4 days left on prescription. I drained all I could and still have swelling in my cheek and gums. Thoughts as I have no insurance til 5/11/17?
Avatar f tn The lesion may be an abscess. Seeing a dentist is advised.
Avatar f tn I still have an ulcer and quite a bit of pain on the gum under the crown. The novacaine injection hurt terribly, like never before. Could there have been some damage that I still have pain. The office told me to keep gargling with salt water. But after 10 days, the ulcer from what I think was trauma from the instruments is still here. Can this trauma cause an abscess?
691614 tn?1227464651 If you have the ability to go to the dentist then you should go. The only treatments I know of for an abscessed tooth is a root canal or extraction of the tooth. Don't wait too long otherwise you could develop sepsis from the tooth abscess, and you could end up hospitalized. If you end up hospitalized, you will end up spending more money.
Avatar n tn Open one packet and make a Thick Paste by adding a few drops of warm water. Then apply the Paste to the area on your gum that is blowing up from the abcess. Let the Paste sit on your gum 10 min. or so and the abcess or (balloon) will eventually open and drain. Try not to swallow the pus and you can then rinse with another packet that you mix following the directions on the package. This will take the pressure off and provide a lot of relief. Hope This Helps!! http://www.smiledentalplan.
1842266 tn?1318860459 There could be pain, swelling, fever, bad taste or smell, pus drainage, bleeding, etc. An abscess can spread to various parts of the body, from the head region down to the neck to the chest cavity. Its hard to really simplify your question because anything could potentially be a symptoms of your teeth's infection.
Avatar n tn Well I usually chew my nails and put the nail underneath the bar and throughout the embrasure of the teeth. Well I did that and it was between 22 and 23 and it kind of hurt and like I need the nail out of there so I just pulled it through and it kind of scratched the gum line. It was sore, but now out of no where a very small abscess has formed. I keep my teeth clean with a oral b 4000 and I don't have any build up of calculus so yea idk what it is.
1881960 tn?1320699966 My doctor gave me penicillin and something for pain but its day 3 and nothing has changed. I can feel the abscess in my mouth for the first time today. It's not getting smaller, only larger! I am 29 and on coumadin and lovenox so no dentist will see me. I've called dozens of dentists to no avail. I am trying not to become frustrated but each passing day I'm stuck in bed isn't helping. Any suggestions ?
Avatar f tn Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar n tn I still have these symptoms and not knowing what causes them is a horrible feeling. I had a filling in my tooth 1 week before this all started and also got a abscess on this particular tooth last month and wonder if this may have anything to do with the symptoms. I would be very greatful if anybody could help.
