To start, I'm only 15 weeks.....but there was no forum for under 18! Anyways, on Sunday I was handling my horses and my mare got jealous when a gelding approached me and she struck out with her front right hoof. Unfortunately, I was nailed in my lower left pelvic area instead of her target. My doctor and a nurse at the office said its too early for a mild trauma like that to cause any damage when I called on Sunday and then again today. I have normal cramps and no bleeding....

Is there an odor to the hoof, especially when you pick the hoof? It may be that your horse has a fungal/bacterial infection such as Thrush. Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I have owned and rode horses all my life. I am having difficulty coping with not being able to ride because ppl told me I cant. Is it seriously that big a deal to ride? they did a ct and found out that it was an abscess. it was 1 inch by 3/8 inch big. they gave me iv rocephin and drained the abscess. they put me on 250mg of keflex 4 x a day and 300mg of clindamycin 4 x a day for the next 10 days. talked to my dentist this morning and have a follow up appt. with him on weds. then if all goes well i will hopefully get the tooth that is causing all of this pulled next week.

As rightly mentioned this seems to be a recurring abscess. Generally a dead tooth nerve gets infected and forms an abscess. Please contact your dentist immediately.
