Abscess on dog

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on dog

abscess

Avatar n tn The vet may just drain it, and apply antiseptic, and probably give you some to keep bathing it with (it will be important to keep the wound open until it is fully drained) Or, like Misfits4Me said, a course of oral antibiotic may be necessary. My dog had an abscess on her back a while ago, and the vet drained it and washed it out with antiseptic, which I then had to do 3 times a day and allow the wound full drainage to stop it filling up again.
Avatar f tn thank you for your help. I've never seen anything like this on a dog and i thought maybe it was a spider bite. We cleaned it was some saline solution the vet gave us a few months back and were able to get a little more out of it.
Avatar f tn My dog got bit by a pitbull on the neck and i believe it has gotten infected and his throat got really swollen its the size of a baseball i want to get him help but my family does not agree and how much am i looking at paying for him to get help?
Avatar n tn My dog has what seems to be an abscess on his neck. It's underneath on the side. I only noticed when petting him. It doesn't seem to hurt him, he still has his appetite, and is as playful as ever. Do you think this is something I can treat by cleaning with a warm compress and peroxide?
Avatar n tn they did a ct and found out that it was an abscess. it was 1 inch by 3/8 inch big. they gave me iv rocephin and drained the abscess. they put me on 250mg of keflex 4 x a day and 300mg of clindamycin 4 x a day for the next 10 days. talked to my dentist this morning and have a follow up appt. with him on weds. then if all goes well i will hopefully get the tooth that is causing all of this pulled next week.
Avatar f tn Were you treating the abscess on your own or under the care of a veterinarian? My vote is that the abscess was far worse than what was visible on the surface, and likely needed surgical drainage. Antibiotics can do only so much, and if they weren't specific for the particular bacteria strain at work, they would do no good at all. I'm guessing that the infection got into her blood stream (sepsis) and she finally died of multiple organ failure.
Avatar n tn my dog had a retribulbar abscess drain on 3/19/2012 , he hasnt ate since and i try o give him his pills but it hurts him and spits it out . What should i do ?

Avatar f tn First my dog had some hair loss on her chest and today I notice a cyst on her neck. What could cause this and what should I do?
Avatar f tn On Aug. 31st my dog was diagnosed with Kidney Failure. Her creatinine was at a 8. As of almost 2 weeks ago it went down to a 2. I have been giving her 6 cc's of fluid subcutaneously. As also Aluminum Hydroxide Gel, USP 5 mL after she eats. Along with PancrePlus as she basically has chronic pancreatitis since 2011 and I can only feed her either boiled chicken & rice or science diet I/D or she starts to tremble in pain.
Avatar f tn t an abscess can develop either visible from the outside or just inside the rectum. In that case, your dog will need some antibiotics.
Avatar f tn My 13 year.old beagle was attacked by a dog on the beach while we were out of the country last June 2012. Long story short, the wound (on her neck) wasn't.properly cleaned and being that we were in a third world country, vets weren't incredibly helpful. An abscess formed about a week after, was drained by the vet only to reform a couple weeks later.
Avatar n tn My dog has a bussy sore on the back of his neck which is not getting any better, is there anything I can do? I think this was from a insect bite? was first noticed a week ago as a small lump, it has now spread down the back of his neck.
Avatar n tn My dog has about a 1.5" round lump on her abdomen on one side. It is not firm, very soft. There are darker spots on it, and it has yellow crust on it. It's not a smooth lump, but a bit bumpy. I havent a clue what it is, and we can't call the vet until Monday. I have a photo. She is a 2 year old lab.
Avatar n tn Depending on the general health of the dog, a small dog weighing 45 pounds can live 15 years or more! Ask your vet about making payments to have the abscess taken care of. If you are considering putting him down because of an abscessed tooth I can tell you that most vets would sternly recommend against it, and it probably will not cost you a lot more to have the tooth taken care of than it would to have him euthanized. PLEASE consider having the tooth doctored.
Avatar n tn my dog has a lump on the side of her neck...not in the middle--more under her cheek. she is a boston terrier and is overweight and has a couple of soft fatty tumors on her body but this lump on her neck is new. I just noticed it today and its abt the size of a golfball, soft and she doesn't cry when i squeeze it gently. what could this be? It doesn't seem to have a head like an abscess would.
Avatar n tn My moms dog has a big huge bump under her jaw and we can't seem to find out what it is. She doesn't eat as much and she isn't so playful we are worried if it might be cancer or a spider bite we do not know what to do.
Avatar n tn thank you for your advice, i initially thought it may be a bite ..however, ive actually just been to the vet as the swelling had increased. its actually caused from his tooth, its been chipped and its caught bacteria. there fore i was told i either need to remove the tooth for it to not occur again or give him antibiotic.im still deciding on what to do.
Avatar m tn He is usually very active and quite the guard dog, cheerful and playful. He is an outside dog, but I brought him in my room to take care of him. I tried to give him nice cold water and even beef jerky as a treat and he couldn't eat it or chew. I saw that the right side of his head was abnormally swollen, mainly around the jaw.
Avatar n tn Kevinpo's comments are spot on. The dog may have an abscess. Get him seen by a veterinarian and treated right away please.
Avatar m tn t walk after the operation but the veterinarian told us that we can go home with our dog without dextrose, then after a couple of hours she died... I was so disappointed on what happened to my lovely dog! We paid around $100 for the operation. Do the veterinarian has responsible for my dog's death? or it was our fault to bring him home? Do I have the right to sue for legal action? thanks and God bless..
Avatar m tn My dog is a 9 year old half Lab and Half Golden. Three (3) days ago he went from a active never been sick animal to an extremely ill dog. He is running a fever of 40.6 C is very lethargic. Seems to be trembling and will not even look at me when I walk in. A massive cyst has developed on his neck. It is draining but the color is brown and stinks link excrement. Took him to the vet yesterday, they gave him a shot and antibiotic pills but this seems to be getting worse not better.
Avatar f tn s still a good idea to have a vet or licensed groomer do this - particularly if it happens frequently. Sometimes impacted glands can eventually abscess and cause a lot of pain and mess and the dog will need antibiotics to help it heal.
2212714 tn?1342258744 I am sorry you and GeGe are going through this. I read your past posts and it is obvious this is a chronic problem. Has the Vet recommended regular anal gland expression? Has he/she showed you how to do that yourself? Has the Vet suggested regular anal massage with a damp cloth? Has the Vet suggested a diet higher in fiber? Has the dog had an actual abscess? Is she on antibiotics? If not, I'm surprised. Has the Vet suggested surgery to remove the anal glands?
Avatar n tn t eat or walk, and we thought she was going to die.The n a few days go by like this and my dog now has a hole on her breast, looks like a blister blew up. Really need advice and whats wrong and will it get infected if we don't treat it. Thank you for your time and I really appreciate it.
Avatar n tn I just recently recieved a dog from a friend, and the dog is about 5-6 months old. I noticed blood in stool and was wonder why could be the cause.
Avatar f tn Ginger is correct. Even if a dog has been neutered they still get the swelling on the penis. Dogs, like people, masturbate because it feels good to them. Neutering them will not prevent them from doing this, it merely prevents them from being able to impregnate a female, so if they are in the mood, they can still bet an erection.
