abscess

Avatar f tn I NEED SOME INPUT FROM SOMEONE THAT KNOWS ABOUT CATS AND STUFF.... So I have this cat and he only goes outside for a few hours every night. So yesterday we noticed that he has a huge squishy lump on his head. Right on top. It looks exactly like a abscess before being drained. But here's the kicker...there's not sign of trauma on or around the lump. No bites/punctures wounds, no scratch marks..nothing. Just a lump with no signs of how it got there.
Avatar n tn Yes. Abscesses will often clear up on their own, but in the mouth region, there's a serious danger of tooth loss. You can call around and see if there's some sort of low/ no cost vet care in your area. Depending on what government programs you're on, you'd be eligible.
Avatar n tn Hi, from your description, it sounds like an abscess. Is your cat indoor/outdoor or does he get into fights with other cats? If there's no possible way that he's getting into fights with other cats, then I'd bring him into the vets-especially if that place has been there for 2 wks or more.
Avatar n tn I don't think the cloudy water is anything to worry about, as long as your changing it once a day. The scab under the chin could be feline acne, or some irritation from fleas. Sounds like some very minor problems. Take him to the vet, or if your tight with your vet call him and see what he thinks of the scabs. Maybe he can tell you what to put on his chin to get rid of it. The peroxide, for now, is a good and safe idea to use!
Avatar n tn He was good until the anti inflammatory wore off, then back on the couch sleeping with 39.9 fever. We went back to the vet next day and he got an oral anti inflammatory and checked by a different vet, who also was unable to find the cause of the fever. That put him back on his feet and he was acting normal until next day he had 39.9 fever again and as before, after giving him the anti inflammatory today he has been fine to now again. He has been eating normal throughout the whole ordeal.
1394098 tn?1385960134 We feed them and make sure they have a warm place to sleep in the winter. One of our momma cats had kittens back in August. I left them alone for a couple of weeks but then I just had to hold them. When I picked them up I was horrified to see that they had maggots living in their little behinds. I searched online and found a safe way to help them and they got completely over it. Today I found one to have clumps of yellow gunk imbedded in her fur around her head. Her eyes are ok.
1356258 tn?1277664250 There is no obvious wound, but his brother and him play fight a lot, and they bite and scratch at each other. They are indoor cats now, and have been out with our other cats for about 1 week and have been eating regular adult food (dry) since then instead of kitten food (dry). I swear that he did not have this bump at all when we found him, or even a few days ago.
Avatar f tn My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.
Avatar n tn about two months ago, one of our cats, rambo (dont know the age because he was a stray like most of our cats but hes maybe 7-8 months) came home limping with his back right leg. hed hiss when we touched it and his flank looked swollen somewhat. then, a few days later, the wound popped, and leaked pus everywhere, and then it was just a hole with no skin where you could see his muscle for a few weeks before it healed up.
Avatar f tn I personally agree with opus88, anyways no its not contageous in anyway , cats are territorial animals they fight with other cats to protect their territory or to acquire more territory. As a result, bite wounds are common in cats, especially when cats are allowed outside. These wounds frequently result in an infection that can be quite debilitating, especially if left untreated. Bite wounds are more common in male cats than in females.
12289107 tn?1424478614 The only time he gets up is to come and eat and drink and go back to sleep. We have three cats, his sister and one kitten which he chases and we call it bullying them all day..but now the two runs around without him.And he always go to the kitchen sink and sit in there and stare at the drops of water on the sides of the sink, can cats get salmonella or anything from the sinks? Im asking cause sometimes i havent cleaned the sink when im cooking and when i turn he's sitting inside the sink.
2216535 tn?1339408893 so the Vet prescribed the penicillin injections and the advil?? I must say I've never heard of advil being used on a cat. are you sure a Vet prescribed this? what did the Vet think was causing these pus sac's? did he do a biopsy? advil is an NSAID a nonsteroidal antinflamatory. and NSAID are very dangerous to use on cats...I can't find the write up for cats but heres some info on the side effects when used on dogs...and its much more dangerous for a cat.
Avatar n tn The vet may just drain it, and apply antiseptic, and probably give you some to keep bathing it with (it will be important to keep the wound open until it is fully drained) Or, like Misfits4Me said, a course of oral antibiotic may be necessary. My dog had an abscess on her back a while ago, and the vet drained it and washed it out with antiseptic, which I then had to do 3 times a day and allow the wound full drainage to stop it filling up again.
Avatar n tn s got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar f tn i have a knot on my back, my dr thinks it might be a fatty tumor, they just did a ultrasound, waiting on the results never bothered me,now its sore wonder if its the kind of work i do, housekeeing at hospital been noticed for 4 months or so
Avatar f tn I have a male cat not operated yet ,but driving me crazy because he wants to go outside, but when I cant stand him crying to go out ,i let him out ,the thing is he come back with cat bites all over him. What can I do for this problem? can some ome help me? I love my cats I have 2 Of themone hemalinen she has been operated. and this one that I need help on> thank you.
Avatar m tn Normally cats recover quickly after the operation, and are back to normal activities and routine the next day. Any swelling or redness is a sign that she’s not healing properly, call the vet immediately.. They are most unlikely to happen. Please keep us posted.
Avatar m tn My cat has scabs along his spine and around his back top of tail area. He is on flea meds, and I check for fleas regularly. His scabs do not seem to bother him. He rarely scratches. The scabs are practically invisible. A couple are little red dots, mostly they can't be seen, but felt. His ears are clear and clean. Belly is the same. I have put him on a antibiotic that does seem to clear this up for a while, but it always comes back.
Avatar f tn My almost 20 year old calico cat has developed a jaw abscess that has broken through the skin to drain. I know from reading the forum this is VERY bad and I can't afford to bring her to the vet. She is still eating and otherwise acting quite normally but I am embarrassed to say I didn't notice that she developed this condition until I felt the scab under her chin. Then I noticed how distorted that side of her jaw has become. Life has been really hectic lately.
Avatar n tn I have 2 hairless cats. About 2 weeks one of the cats right front leg was red, swollen and soft feeling. The next day he has licked a pinhole place and most of the puss had come out. It seemed to get much better after that and the pinhole healed. Today his left back leg is doing the same thing and the front one is again also. He and his brother both sleep together in the same bed and i wash their bedding at least twice a week.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I have 3 cats that are litter mates. 1 little Princess girl, and 2 little stinker boys. I also have 4 other kitties. The 2 brothers came to blows about 4 days back and now 1 has an abscess by his ear on the top of his head. I've been able to clean it with some Chlorhexidine scrub and warm water a couple times since finding the abscess yesterday. This evening while cleaning it I started getting a lot of nasties out of it.
199954 tn?1294944669 I live in a apartment. We have about 10 stray cats outside the apartment. I look after them feed them and all. Two of them I tooked to have them spayed. The others not yet. My question is there are 2 mother cats. One of them lost her figure I guess to put it that way. Her face is different. It has a brown spot I don't if she is sick or been to a fight. She eats, drinks water and milk.
Avatar m tn A few months ago I had a tooth infection on my lower back molar. I was told I need a root canal and given antibiotics. After the infection cleared up and stopped hurting I forgot about it, with the intention of eventually going back and getting it taken care of. Well now I have a painless lump on the outside gum right below that tooth. It seems to have appeared over night. I thought I felt food in there and noticed it. It feels like a blister but doesn't hurt at all.
