Abscess on appendix

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on appendix

abscess

Avatar n tn m 41yrs old, in reasonable fitness and health but have been diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and have had a drain/antibiotic therapy to clear up the infection and abscess. The appendix will be taken out in 4 weeks' time. What range of physical activity should I carry out in the interval? Would there be a risk of causing damage by lifting, bending, moderate gym exercise etc ? Thanks..
Avatar f tn He sent my scan to a surgeon who agreed with him and said he would have taken my appendix out the day I was in the hospital had he been the one on call. I scheduled the surgery and had my appendix removed. When I woke from surgery, I was still experiencing the same pain and was told that my appendix looked fine so they no longer thought this was the problem. Since then, the pain hasn't gotten any better and it seems to be more intense after I eat anything.
Avatar n tn After four days they did another scan and determined he did not have an abscess on his appendix so he was not going to remove his appendix. When he no longer had a fever later that day he was discharged on oral antibiotics. Yesterday he had a follow up appointment with the surgeon and he said there is only a fifteen per cent chance of any more trouble with his appendix so still no surgery. He wants to see him in two weeks to do another scan to see how his appendix is doing.
Avatar n tn With the appendix rupture and abscess, you've had an awful lot of infection turned loose on your insides. That causes inflammation of the surrounding tissues. One result of that inflammation comes from the body's natural ability to try to heal and protect itself by growing scar tissue in the inflamed areas. Get enough scar tissue (adhesions) on your intestines, and you end up with the symptoms you describe.
Avatar f tn While there, they told me that once the abscess became encapsulated and the inflammation calmed down, I should have the ruptured appendix removed in an out-patient laparoscopic procedure. I had a follow-up yesterday, and no the doctor (different one) says its my choice as to whether to have to removed or not. He removed the drain, prescribed another 10 days worth of antibiotics and set another followup appt. for 29 Nov.
Avatar n tn My husband just had a diagnosis of a ruptured appendix on Thursday. The surgeon here says he won't need surgery because there is little to no appendix left. The doctor also says that there may or may not be an abscess so my husband has another CT scan today. That was hours ago and my husbands condition is getting worse. I have told the nurse this twice now and the only comments I get is that she is new to my husband and she does not know where the doctor is.
Avatar f tn She did ultrasound, suspected to be appendix. The US showed appendix visible, nabothian cyst in utetus , mild pelvic fluid, equivocal finding for appendix. My GP ordered CT to confirm appendix. She told mild pelvic fluid could be due to appendicitis. I did my CT yesterday, a week after US. The report says normal appendix, moderately high pelvic fluid, adnexal cystic structure, ovaries not discretely visible due to fluid surrounding. When I googled, it all gives me sweats on possible cancer.
Avatar f tn At this point, the surgeon MUST IMMEDIATELY drain the infected abdominal fluids, drain the abscess that developed, then disinfect the abdominal cavity, and give antibiotics. Probably what happened in the first place is, when they were operating on the appendix, they switched from laprascopic surgery to open surgery for the appendicitis because they had likely come across a burst appendix, which that lets bacteria spread into the abdominal cavity.
Avatar n tn my daughter had her appendix removed dec 20, 2008. came home same day seemed to be doing okay until about two weeks ago in alot of pain & went to dr as it seemed side of incision was oozing a lit bit. told us it ws normal. about 3 days ago the incision completely opened from one end to the other.it keeps bleeding & oozing & she. is in alot of pain is this normal with dissolving stiches? or should we get another opinion?
Avatar n tn Has his appendix been checked? Sometimes pain on the right side of the abdomen is associated with the appendix. I wish you the best of luck for your dad!
Avatar n tn i have a constant slightly minor pain on my left side about 5 inches below my ribs, deep breathing makes it hurt, started after i ate and have had this for a full 24hrs any ideas should i be worried
Avatar f tn My appendix ruptured, but I didn’t go to the doctor for three weeks. I was only in pain for the first few days, but knew something was wrong because I had terrible night sweats. They performed a laparoscopic appendectomy and removed a little bit of infection from the area. I spent seven days in the hospital. I’ve now been home for 18 days and I’m still having terrible night sweats. They’ve done bloodwork, urinalysis and a CT scan and say they cannot find nothing wrong.
Avatar f tn Had abscessed tooth on top under gold crown. At the same time bottom gums swelled and I was told that one of my back molars needed extracted. Had 3 teeth pulled. My gums are still swollen on bottom which all doctors say they look pink and healthy. I feel pressure in my jaw. I feel like I'm being strangled in my throat. Now I feel like I'm in a tunnel when I speak. All these symptoms came one after the other and I don't know what to do.
1129974 tn?1260093006 Hi Surgi I am currently having tests, including an ultrasound tomorrow. My blood results will be back this afternoon. The original Dr did think it was a kidney infection but they dismissed this on the next appointment and leaned towards a low grade appendix infection but they've gone back on this to! I think they are confused as the pain isn't where it should be. I will update once I know more!
Avatar f tn If by chance you were actually able to figure out that your pain was from an inflammed appendix your delay in seeking medical attention would have resulted in the appendix becoming gangrenous and perforating usully after about 4 hours of symptoms. I agee that, in the absence of other signs / symptoms of an inflammatory process simple constipation would be the most likely diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Sorry I couldn't find a forum for Appendicitis anywhere on this website which I found bizarre. My husband had an emergency appendectomy on 26th Jan. It was laporoscopic surgery and they also found an abcess that was infected so he had a drain attached to him in hospital for 4 days to drain all the toxins out. They sent him home 30th Jan for a weeks rest and antibiotics to take. I had to take him back to emergency 8th feb as he had high fevers and pain in the same area.

Avatar f tn Hi, I was rushed in for an emergency operation 3 years ago due to severe abdominal pains (suspected abscess on my appendix) where a 20cm cyst was found in my abdomen. About 1liter was drained from it and it was found only to contain lymphocytes and nothing more serious. Since then it has grown back so I had drain fitted under CT scan. This did not work due to the structure of the cyst. It has since grown even bigger and I often get stomach pains.
Avatar f tn My large intestine, small bit of my small intestine and appendix (which was removed) shows nerve damage caused by a potential autoimmune disease which is yet to be diagnosed. I have high white blood cells and blood in my urine. Also have over sweating, grey ice cold hands and feet. I had a proctogram 11th May and am waiting for follow up appointment. It's taking longer as being refered to someone else. This will be my 3rd consultant.
851310 tn?1238980845 chronic involvement of appendix (many a times ultrasound misses this as the appendix in such cases is hidden behind loops of intestine and typical symptoms of appendicitis are absent), involvement of kidney and inflammation of your intestine. Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, constipation, and an abscess in rectus abdominis muscle or psoas muscle can all cause lower right abdomen pain. An ultrasound or CT scan of abdomen is definitely required.
Avatar n tn When the doctor went in to remove it, they found nothing and removed her appendix anyway. The pain progressed into vomiting everytime she ate for a couple weeks. Then she began to pass out after eating, which has now progressed into seizure like episodes several times a day regardless of eating or not. She hs been extensively tested by neuro, cardio, gastro, EEG during "seizure" was negative as were all other tests. All doctors referred her to psych.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
