5195620 tn?1364978700 Is it a lung abscess? An abscess is a collection of pus and a lung abscess can follow a pneumonia. If a person has lung abscess, besides cough she will have other symptoms like high temperature and will be toxic. Asthma can predispose to lung infections as a result of phlegm collections. This is usually diagnosed by spirometry. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn It could be a lung abscess. I had something similar a few years back - was diagnosed with pnemonia, it seemed to clear up with antibiotics, but after a few months symptoms returned. The infections and bacteria that invade a cavity in the lung may need stronger or different types of drugs to fully eradicate. At least in my case, that was the case. Eventually the infection was cleared but the abscess left a cavity in my lung that has yet to close up.
Avatar f tn Solitary nodules causes, are due to neoplastic(benign or malignant), metastasis, lymphoma, hamartoma, connective tissue tumors. It could be a granuloma of tubercular origin, lung abscess etc. CT halo sign or ground glass attenuation surrounding the nodule on CT image indicates TB and biopsy needs to be done bronchoscopically or via Trans thoracic needle aspiration.

Avatar n tn Usually for a lung abscess, antibiotic treatment is used, and drainage only occasionally, but that does depend on what is stuck down there. A bronchoscopy might be the answer. Or continued antibiotic treatment, perhaps Metronidazole/Clindamycin? See what the vet says, but please do take her back, until a treatment is found that does the trick. I do hope she is better soon. Please post back to let us know what happens.
Avatar f tn To answer your question regarding aspiration, yes, aspiration of a wide variety of foreign bodies, can cause pneumonia and/or lung abscess and fever could be one sign of this complication. I suggest that you contact your primary care doctor to get his/her opinion and that strong consideration be given to bronchoscopy. Mucinex or any other medication is unlikely to clear whatever was aspirated. Also, the longer you wait, the more likely are you to develop lung infection.

Avatar m tn If it turns out that it is a tooth responsible for the abscess, it needs to be taken out as as the abscess is completely gone. Don't wait or the abscess could come back worse.
Avatar f tn My 9 month old cat recently had an abscess that burst on his side. I took him to the vet two days ago and he was put on amoxicillin. Today, right next to the burst abscess there is another abscess formed. There are not visible wounds so there is nowhere to drain from. He does not feel warm to touch on his nose or his ears. The vet is closed for two days and there are no emergency clinics near me. Please offer advice on how to help my Oliver.
Avatar n tn you should make an appointment with your personal Physician for an examination. You state this lump is above the breast .... it could be an abscess but I'm not sure what you mean by "above" the breast. I might be an enlarged lymph node and that could indicate an infection but this warrants a hands-on examination and some type of treatment. Regards .....

Avatar f tn Hi I have a bump near the vagina since the last two years, only one and it stay the same not growing in size whatsoever. Ocassionally it fills up with pus and bleed too. I'm diabetic, have shown it to many gyno dr's they give cream and antibiotics but no healing. I don't understand what it is. Had tested for infections and I don't have any.
Avatar f tn The list would include a number of things, from abnormal collections of normal tissue (put another way, normal tissue that is placed in an abnormal location) such as hamartomas, collections of infection (abscess or granuloma, fungal balls). Occasionally the description can be used to describe any opacity, and some of these may only be transient thickening or consolidation of the lung, and then upon repeat examination – the so-called mass apparently disappears.
Avatar n tn I have had a chest xray and ct scan with contast to try and find out why I am having pain over my left kidney and left ribcage. I was told by my doctor that the tests showed I had small "bubbles" or areas of lung collapse in the lower lobes of both lungs. I have no cough or wheeze and have not had a cold or serious cough in over 8 years. What could this be?
Avatar n tn Yesterday my husband, aged 54yrs had drainage of an abscess? diagnosed following ct scan for a lump between anus and scotum which tripled in size over the previous week. Has been in pain since the May 08 followup colonoscopy which led to bleeding for 2 days, and then a month of ++ bleeding in September. Severe pain - on Tramal twice per day plus paracetamol 4 x day.
Avatar f tn Obviously it could still be herpes, but it does not appear to have an ulcer look and there was only one small oval-shaped zit-like abscess near the very top center where a camel toe forms.. Lol. Any thoughts or opinions are welcome!

Avatar n tn The various causes of patch on a chest xray when you had chest pain as the chief complaint could be emphysema, pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung abscess, rib fracture, lobar atelectasis, malignant lesions etc. wait for the meeting, carry any old xrays or other imaging studies of chest for comparison. Make note of any constitutional symptoms like fever, cough, and weight loss. Consult a pulmonologist after your physician. Management would be according to the cause. Hope this helps. Take care.
378497 tn?1232143585 I never assume that the person posting always does even if this is a lung cancer forum. If there is lung cancer, the bone is a common site of metastasis. Could it also be possible that the brain lesions are likewise metastasis?
Avatar f tn Other possible causes of coughing up blood include COPD, lung cancer, tuberculosis, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia and lung abscess to name a few. Also, check to see if he is on blood thinners for heart disease, this could be causing the bleeding. I suggest he should go the ER, for immediate evaluation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Do any of your teeth hurt? Sounds like you have an infection or abscess. If an abscess in the teeth goes unattended the infection will spread into the jaw and cause a lump. You need to get checked out ASAP!! If left untreated, the infection will spread into your blood stream.
Avatar m tn So about 3 weeks ago I had my perianal abscess drained and the healing process went quite well until about 1 week after the drainage small spots started to appear around my anus and near where the abscess was. My doctor prescribed me with a 1 week course of antibiotics which seemed to clear them up. However, more spots have started to appear but more itchy and painful and also when they burst the pain seems to ease. So are these spots anything to worry about?
Avatar f tn I have a recurring abscess on my right breast for almost 2 years now. I remember that I have a "white head/black head" on my chest so I picked it and removed it and I think it's where it all started. The abscess I got on the first spot on my breast lasted for 9 months (I had maybe 4 recurrence) but it healed on its own without taking any antibiotics or creams.
