Abscess lanced

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess lanced

abscess

Hi, The abscess in your breast should be lanced and drained. But if your infection keeps coming back after incision and drainage, a wide excision of the infected area may help. Has your doctor made a culture of the infecting organism? If not, then it should be done so that a proper antibiotic treatment can be focused on the offending organism. It is also possible that your infection keeps coming back because you have some other illness which could affect your immune system, such as diabetes.
My lower left rear abscess appeared overnight, even my dentist said it was "a good size abscess" so yesterday I had it lanced and drained. I was put on Erithromycin 250mg and per my Dr.'s instruction, took four immediately then one every 6 hours and will finish them by the time of my root canal appointment in 6 more days. He also prescribed Hydro/apap 7.5-50 for pain. They seem to work ok, but I hate how they make me feel.
If the infection does not clear up after you have completed the antibiotics, the abscess should be lanced and drained. But if it doesn't clear up after this procedure,a wide excision of the infected area may help. I would also advise you to consult a Breast Specialist who might recommend a few tests, including a Mammogram/Ultrasound to further investigate this problem. Best wishes..

I have a groin abscess that was lanced 2 months ago. Have been on two rounds of antibiotics and still hasn't healed w/air exposure. Any suggestions?
I immediately went to the doctor where I was sent to the hospital and the abscess was lanced and drained. I was seen in the emergency room the following night where it was once again lanced. This was left open to drain for approx. 6 weeks. I also might add that this was the most painful experience I have ever had.
) After feeling the scalple slicing open my abscess, then the doctor found a previous abscess under that one and had to slice it open as well. After all of this, it was time to begin packing the wound with this stringgy gauze filled with antibiotic by using a small pair of sissors to do it. I felt everything! It felt like he was poking the abscess with the sharp sissor and then dragging it around the inside edges of the wound. Another very painful and tramatic experience!
I have had these before. There are 2 main causes. #1 Ingrown hair. for this i suggest you go see a skin doc he can write you a script for medicine to bring the hair to the surface or you could go to the regular doc and have him lance it open (OUCH!). #2 Abcess usually caused by an irritated fat cell.
I am a 24 yr old female and recently had a tooth abscess that I took care of with 2 different antibiotics (Clyndmiacin and cephelexin). I went to the ER and got the abscess lanced to relieve some of the pressure. I went to my dentist and received a partial root canal. I am feeling no pain in my mouth and the swelling is all gone. Now I'm not sure if the infection is in my heart.
Hi, I have what I am 99% sure is a Bartholin Cyst or abscess since it is painful, tender & swollen. I am a medical technician who spent 2 years treating regular abscess' so I kind of know what I am in for but have never dealt with the bartholin gland type. I am worried because I know that it is very difficult to anesthetize and abscess locally. I am hoping I am not too late for antibiotic/ sitz bath therapy.
I can't walk, or function, it hurts to sit or do anything basically. Do I maybe have a Bartholin duct abscess and thrush as well? I've tried several things that don't seem to be working too well, i started with monostat 1 the 1 day plunger and the miconazole 2% cream that comes with it, then i tried vagisil anti itch topical cream, followed by plain yogurt dipped 100% cotton tampons. i'm so sick of this and i just want to feel normal again.
My 16 year old son had a rectal abscess that lanced itself last week. What natural post care do you recommend he be doing to make sure this heals without complications?
Over a month ago, an abscess formed on the back of my thigh (midway between bottom of buttock and top of knee). I was on vacation and delayed medical care. Finally it became huge and I went to ER where it was lanced and packed and I was given Bactrim and Cipro for 5 days. I used compresses on it. The culture came back (days later) as strep. After another 10 days, it reddened again and seemed a bit bumpy. I was put on 10 days of Clindmycin. Just completed that course.
First off you need to find a new dentist, I had that happen to me because of an abcess where I looked like I had a baseball in my cheek, I had to go see a specialist to move what was left of the molar and have it lanced, where he had to cut the inside of my mouth open and have all the puss sucked out. It was a horrible infection. My face just kept getting bigger and bigger. That was several years ago.
meaning that it was not completely lanced the first time. DO YOU THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED TO SEE A PCP??? LOL.. JUST wondering!!! just do not think that would have helped considering that the PAIN WAS BEYOND INTENSE!!!
i had a bartholin abscess it was lanced and drained and continued draining for about half a day. ive been taking antibiotics there is still a small lump that does not hurt or cause any discomfort, is this from tissue build up from the swelling.
and she lanced it once in a different area that needed drained. When the hole (that never closes) starts to try and close it fills up with puss and gets very painful. Other than that it stays open and drains periodically and is a real nuisance. I'm afraid to wear deodorant or powder. Has anyone ever experienced this?? I would appreciate any information or direction that would work for you.
my antibiotics finished yesterday and since i have been in extreme pain, the tooth itself its very tender to touch and a hard lump had formed on my hard palet again, when pressed on some pus still comes out as the dentist left a hole in the abscess where he lanced so it could self drain. will i need another dose of antibiotics? what can i do in the mean time to keep the pain down? i also am experiencing pain in my cheek bone on the same side, is this connected? thanks....
I was treated for an abscess on my breast, about a month ago. After the abscess was lanced I noticed a red streak going across my breast. After taking antibiotics the streak receded, but left a large red area on my breast. I have had sharp shooting pain in my nipple, and an overall sensitive breast. Could this be the remnants of the initial infection, or should I be concerned about a larger issue?
My dog has what seems to be an abscess on his neck. It's underneath on the side. I only noticed when petting him. It doesn't seem to hurt him, he still has his appetite, and is as playful as ever. Do you think this is something I can treat by cleaning with a warm compress and peroxide?

I was diagnosed 4 years ago with an anorectal abscess. It had to be lanced, drained and packed everyday for 2 months. It healed properly. Just recently, in march 2010 I had another occurrence. This time it was not caught in time. I became septic and it ended up bursting. I had to have surgery, a tube inserted for 4 days to allow for any additional draining. The tube was removed and the part that burst healed with in a month.
Now out of antibiotics and her paw has swelled up again. I think it needs lanced but Vet not opened till tomorrow morn. I dont know if she can wait? Emergancy Vet will cost alot!! What should I do.
Hi there, A dental examination is very important for determining the exact cause of your symptoms. It is possible that acute abscess has been developing. It is best to get an appropriate evaluation and treatment done. If there was a root canal done in the above tooth? In few cases root canals can fail due to branching and convolutions of the tooth roots. See your dentist at the earliest. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Best luck and regards!
The dentist obviously feels that it is not ready to be lanced just yet. An abscess needs to be ready to be lanced, if it is lanced too soon, no rubbish will come out, but it will be open for more bacteria to enter into the opened cut. At home, make a solution of salty water and use that to rinse your mouth with and then spit it out. Do this a few times a day. Take pain relief as recommended for the pain. Best wishes.
When I went back yesterday to have this repacked for the 3rd time, she noticed two more lumps/cysts..one below the one that was lanced last week. Now the one on the right side has continued to grow and is almost as large as the one that was lanced. They took a culture of the one that was lanced. I insisted that I be referred to a Gynecologist..this really worries me because I have never had these before. Has anyone else had these??
The mass may be an abcess, cyst, or tumor. If it is an abscess, then it need to be lanced, drained, and flushed (usually performed under sedation since this is a painful process) and the cat put on oral antibiotics for 2 weeks. There is nothing that you can do at home, your cat need to be seen by a veterinarian. You can google low cost pet clinics in your area.
Hi, This sounds like an infection and my advice to you would be to seek medical attention to have this abscess or boil lanced and treated with antibiotics. Please call for an appointment to see your family doctor or a dermatologist, (the sooner the better) before this infection gets worse. In the meantime you can take some over the counter pain medication.Just keep the site clean, put a sterile bandage on it and do not apply any medication unless prescribed by your doctor when you'll see him.
