just wanted to update and let you know that i ended up going to the er on easter morning. my jaw had swollen so bad that i couldn't shut my mouth. the swelling had started on the inside of my jaw as well as the outside. it got so sore that i couldn't even stand for an ice pack to touch my jaw. they did a ct and found out that it was an abscess. it was 1 inch by 3/8 inch big. they gave me iv rocephin and drained the abscess.

is it somehting to worry about? One more question could this abscess have anything to do with my jaw feeling a bit week on the same side? It isn't exactly on the jaw its just above it on the inner side of the lower gum wall. Thankyou for your time.

Do any of your teeth hurt? Sounds like you have an infection or abscess. If an abscess in the teeth goes unattended the infection will spread into the jaw and cause a lump. You need to get checked out ASAP!! If left untreated, the infection will spread into your blood stream.

Okay, so I found out that it was an early stage abscess. I've had the first stage root canal done. Meaning the dentist just drilled out the pulp and filled it with temp filling. He said my abscess should go away by itself. It's been a week and the abscess has not gone down at all. Should I be worried? I have another appointment in a few days. Just wondering since my dentist doesn't seem to like telling me things. And he doesn't seem to really care for that matter.

by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.

Ive been having pain on and off for several weeks in my lower left jaw area. Its originating in a crown that Ive had for more than 10 years and now its causing me earache and tender/swollen glands under my left jaw. Im in agony and Im popping pills like mad! This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum.

I had a cracked tooth,I waited and put off something being done about it,and it became abscess,a pocket formed underneath it and also my jaw swelled up an I believe became infected, I went to the doctor, they numbed and drained the pocket,and gave me 2 antibiotics and a pain med, I'm no longer in pain (the cracked tooth is a little loose) but its been going on 3 days of antis and no change has occurred, is that normal? should I go back to the doctor?

My doctor gave me penicillin and something for pain but its day 3 and nothing has changed. I can feel the abscess in my mouth for the first time today. It's not getting smaller, only larger! I am 29 and on coumadin and lovenox so no dentist will see me. I've called dozens of dentists to no avail. I am trying not to become frustrated but each passing day I'm stuck in bed isn't helping. We took him to the emergency vet, and they kept him a few days and took blood samples and were able to open his jaw to see if he had a tooth abscess and they took xrays also. He was given antibiotics and steroids. They said they couldn't find any cause or problem, and was very frustrating for us because not only was that visit and procedures over $1,000 the swelling is now returning. The swelling did go down while he was on steroids. He is eating and running about normally.

not the tooth itself but underneath in the gum by the jawbone, i noticed when i press on my cheek. my tooth feels excellent i can eat on it with no pain. i have a narrow jaw and as the endodontist said, long roots. maybe this has to do with the pain? its right by the nerve in my jaw, i can feel that much. im NOT experiencing any tingling or loss of sensation, it kind of feels like a bruise when you press, but on the inside,kind of prickly only when pressed.

Since ICD-9 is not very specific they may have put a I after to show it is a Chiari Malformation type 1. In ICD-10 it is more specific - G93.5 states Chiari Malformation 1. So I am assuming since the ICD-9 code of 384.4 just states compression of brain they had to add a 1 so it was more specific for their notes.

Just throbbing pain at different times. A CT Scan show a hole up by my jaw bone. When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth. Just wasn't sure if it should still be sore. Took Butch back to the VET this morning. The Doc described the issue as a "Lemon Size abscess" behind the jaw bone structure. We have two vets in the same office.
