Common Questions and Answers about Abscess in the throat

abscess

Avatar n tn Enlarged adenoids may block the Eustachian tubes. Eustachian tubes connect the middle ear to the throat; this balances the air pressure in the ears. This tube can get blocked due to infections of the throat or enlarged adenoids, which can lead to a feeling of fullness in the ears. This can also result in infection of the ears. So, an adenoidectomy may help with his symptoms. Good luck for the procedure. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn A lump in the throat could be a cyst, an abscess, a swollen lymphnode or an area of localized inflammation due to post nasal drip or reflux of gastric contents. Since you drink, possibility of reflux are high. Please consult an ENT and get this investigated. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn So I had been dealing with a sinus infection, got started on antibiotics for that 2 weeks ago.. Then a week later my throat was hurting and tonsils were enlarged, went back to Dr. whom said I had tonsillitis, caused from sinus infection.. He started me on another antibiotic.. Four days later I was feeling worse... Such as fever, flushed look, hoarse voice, could hardly swallow, and very weak..
Avatar n tn t been already - as we all know from inadvertently getting water up your nose or inhaling something, that the sinuses do drain down our throat, so if you have a sinus infection or abscess, it could be draining into your throat causing the horrid taste. It's possible that if this is the case, you notice it when you yawn because just the act of yawning stretches the mouth and can put pressure on the sinus area, therein possibly causing it to drain. Are you running any fever? any chills?
Avatar m tn Hi there, Any infection in the body should be treated. Dental abscesses and pus pockets in the throat warrant evaluation and complete treatment with antibiotics. Persistent sore throat can be due to many causes like glandular fever, tonsillitis, laryngitis and cancer. It is suggested to see an ENT surgeon and get checked. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn My throat is not sore, but on the left side, there is a swollen mass that is in the same area my tonsil would be. A NP was afraid it was an abscess, but my dr didn't think it was. My blood work is still out on an official mono dx, but the thing in my throat is not getting any smaller. It sometimes makes me keep like gagging. Any idea what this is? Or if I need to see an ENT to have it drained/removed? Thanks!
Avatar f tn This may be brought about by a break in the skin/areola, producing a superimposed infection and thus abscess formation. If there is an abscess, incision and drainage must be done and the specimen is sent to the pathologist for evaluation. Good luck.
Avatar m tn m also goign to ask for a culture of whatever the infection is in the abscess.
Avatar m tn finally ended up in the er i got antibotics by iv and had the abscess drained(painful but worth it) i am now on two seperate antibotics by mouth. i go see my dentist this week for a follow up and hopefully get the tooth removed. i feel your pain with the money issue i don't have dental coverage either. but believe me it is worth getting this taken care of. don't wait to long. by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big.
Avatar m tn However, I wanted to ask the forum whether it is possible for such a swelling of the ear to cause symptoms such as pains in the left area at the back of the head and in the left facial area ?
Avatar n tn Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If you had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too. In your case in all probability it is the outer ear infection.
Avatar f tn My husband has been complaining of tooth pain since the end of last year. In early March he developed a fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. He saw a doctor and strep throat and mono were ruled out as a cause. The doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 days. He felt fine after a couple of days and all was well. But about two weeks later the same symptoms returned (w/ a fever of 101.
Avatar f tn s recovery so it was the most painful thing for me. The IGM was bearable until the abscess started to appear.
Avatar f tn The longer you wait to seek veterinary care, the sicker your dog will get and the treatment more expensive. Cut away the hair around the abscess to get a better look at it. Perhaps the visual will impress your family on the absolute necessity of vet care. Abscesses are serious and potentially deadly if left untreated.
Avatar n tn It could be a sinus infection. Do you have the symptoms of runny nose along with the sore throat? Even if you don't have rhinorrhea (runny nose) still could be sinus. Check the lymph node, if the swelling is less than an inch, then you needn't to see the doctor. See the skin colour above the lymph node, if the skin is red or pink, it means that the lymph node is loosing the battle against the infectious agent, you better get yourself checked then.
Avatar m tn I actually have been feeling a bit of pain in my throat in the past couple of days like when you get a cold and I am sneezing a bit. But that is it. Thanks for the answer. I have an appointment with my doctor to take it into a further investigation.
Avatar f tn went to the Er cuz I was having tooth pain and throat pain as well as a swollen throat the dr said it could be from a abscess but didn’t bother even checking
Avatar m tn But you should probably get to a doctor for an antibiotic prescription. The infection in the abscess is causing the fever and the enlarged node, and you want to avoid ending up with sepsis - which can be very dangerous. When a node enlarges, it is almost always because it is fighting an infection.
Avatar f tn Around the same time, every time I stood up or bent down, I had an excruciating pain in the left front side of my head and at times the left top side of my nose simultaneously. Sometimes the shooting pain in my head alone happens when I am just sitting still. I went to the Dr's today and confirmed that the lump behind my ear was an abscess. She didn't think the pain was related, but didn't know what it was. I know she was busy, but the whole appt just felt rushed.
Avatar n tn the infecting source causing enlargement of lymph nodes. The infection can be from the draining skin or the organs. You could see if any of the draining areas have any evidence of infection, like tonsils, the skin, tooth abscess or an ear infection. Infections like tuberculosis can cause lymphadenopathy. It would be worthwhile to see if other lymph groups are enlarged namely, axilla and groin, these can be palpated. If persisting consult your doctor for an evaluation.
Avatar m tn Hello Recently I have had two surgeries to remove an abscess in my groin/left thigh. The First operation occurred two weeks before the second. I'm now 8 days post second op and the wound is healing well and I thought all was going to be ok but the nurse who comes daily to pack and redress my wound is very concerned about the large approx 8cm long hard lump that surrounds the wound. She applied pressure and squeezed it alot yesterday and now the whole region is painful again.
Avatar f tn Your grandmother should receive a pelvic exam to determine the cause and extent of the abscess to determine the correct treatment,a small sample may also be taken to rule out cancer beings she is post menopausal. I don't know what kind of health care they have in Uganda, but if she is in this much pain this should have already been evaluated and treated with antibiotics and possibly drained.
Avatar m tn It's been a while since I've had a dental check up. I would say around 8 months now. I've used a mouth wash on it and it seems to have smoothen out a bit but its still there and looks white. I will go and have a dental check up as soon as I return home next week. What exactly is an abscess? is it somehting to worry about? One more question could this abscess have anything to do with my jaw feeling a bit week on the same side?
Avatar m tn So, my 7 infections this year is without any tonsillits. The doctors I have met, specialists in ear, nose and throat disorders, have no clue and still just keeps on giving me antibiotics. Therefore I am seeking help online and wonder, what could be the cause of all the infections?
Avatar n tn I am curious if I should have him x-ray this area to see if this could be contributing to the feeling of something in my throat which seems to be located in the upper part of the left side of my neck just under the left jawbone area, and now is also giving me a bit of an earache.
Avatar f tn More specifically it is called Amoebic Liver Abscess. The abscess, if it is one, is relative small and can be cured by antibiotics. No need to go in for aspiration. It is 100% curable. Also go in for a blood test along with a liver function test to test the levels of the enzymes. But, FIRST consult a good gastroenterologist. I wouldnt worry if I were you.
