abscess

691614 tn?1227464651 I have a white lump that has appeared in my gum above my front tooth. It isn't painful but when pressed I feel pressure on my tooth. It has been there about 3 weeks now. What it is?
Avatar f tn Hi, lump in the gums above and adjacent to the teeth most commonly can be tooth abscess or fistula opening due to infected tooth. You may just check out any frank cavity or food imapaction area in related teeth to the swelling. In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Other possibilties could be pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, periodontal abscess etc. Check out with local dentist to confirm.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar m tn An abscess is basically a build up of pus and infection in the jaw bone area. I assume that since you've seen a dentist recently, it probably would've been spotted at your last checkup as they generally develop from large cavities. There are abscess that also develop from gum disease as well but assuming you had a cleaning and check up, thats also a little more unlikely. Best to get it checked out and taken care of.
Avatar n tn It is possible that acute abscess has been developing. It is best to get an appropriate evaluation and treatment done. If there was a root canal done in the above tooth? In few cases root canals can fail due to branching and convolutions of the tooth roots. See your dentist at the earliest. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn poor oral hygiene cause gingivitis, but in your case, if the crown was bad, like overhanged or undersized there would be a problem, cause this crown may harbor bacteria in the gingival line (gum line) which cause inflammation of the gingiva (gum). The treatment for your case may be replacement of the crown plus proper oral hygiene...
Avatar m tn Gum boil tends to resolve within a week if retreatment of root canal is successful.
Avatar m tn Often, this abscess is caused by food caught in pockets at the gumline. The infection forms at the root, and then eats away at the gum tissue, eventually creating a channel that leads to the gum surface. Once the channel reaches the gum surface, it appears to be a pimple or raised, white growth. Gumboils often (though not always) hurt, and sometimes the tooth feels raised or displaced.
Avatar n tn Hello, This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case. As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago, I had a dental abscess in the upper right side of my mouth, between the tooth and the gum, and it was slowly draining from a hole in my gum... So, I decided to try and squeeze some of the infection out myself and as I was in the process of doing so, the abscess busted and drained internally (into my cheek). My face started swelling immediately and in about 15 seconds, it had tripled in size!
Avatar n tn They said I have Periodontal Disease, I am wondering if this tooth can be saved by the gum specialist. Is sugical gum treatment can save my tooth? Can I save my tooth for serveral more years? If I have to extract my tooth, since is the lower back tooth (last one) will it effect my facial structure? any side effect? Thanks.
Avatar n tn see both then make a choice endo and a surgeon thats what I did and made the choice for the tooth to be removed and an implant put in. I made the right choice in my case the tooth could not be saved and the implant is amazing better than my real tooth. I chose the later after hearing there was no garantee another root canal would take and if it did maybe for a year or two and I did not want to go to one then have the other a few years later.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I had a tooth extracted 2 weeks ago to the day. The dentist packed the socket with gauze to prevent dry socket as I am a smoker. Well 2 weeks later I am sure there is still gauze stuck up there as I can taste it and feel it with my tongue, I'm thinking it is now stuck in my gum as the gum has healed over a bit. I cant get back into the dentist for another week as he only works one day. Does anyone know what the procedure will be for removing it?
Avatar f tn If a person presents with say gum disease, decay and defective restorations has no symptoms of pain, or abscesses etc and for whatever reason leaves a tooth untreated for say approx 6-7 months then suddenly develops an abscess with severe pain. Is it probable that during that period without the treatment caused it to become worse and then develop the abscess which required an extraction? When do teeth with cavities become unsaveable that require extraction.
Avatar m tn I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Had mini dental implants put in 3 years ago with 4 up top ,, and the gum abscess is right on top of it .
Avatar n tn What happens to the gum abscess after the pus leaked out?
Avatar m tn If it turns out that it is a tooth responsible for the abscess, it needs to be taken out as as the abscess is completely gone. Don't wait or the abscess could come back worse.
Avatar f tn Did the dentist say the gum looked healthy or not? Flossing in between the teeth to the gum line will help. Rinse your mouth with salty water after washing your teeth. Or use an antibacterial mouth wash. For bruxism (grinding of teeth), you can get a gum shield to protect your teeth from being worn away from grinding when you sleep. The dentist usually makes it for you to fit over your bottom teeth.
Avatar n tn Thermal sensitivity and discomfortable biting are probably associated with occlusal interference. Occlusal adjustment can generally eliminate the symptoms. Gum abscess may result from periodontal or periapical infection. Seeing a periodontist to evaluate periodontal condition is advised.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I was researching online and it said that a dental/gum abscess is accompanied by pain. But I have no pain there. Just a little discomfort from the actual swelling. My questions.... 1. I don't want to have another round of anti-biotics right now so soon after the last round. Would it be dangerous to wait and see if this swelling goes down on its own? 2.
Avatar n tn Did they do any procedures to the gum themselves prior or during the crown treatment? There may be some excess cement that can be left on accident which cause an irritation in the area.
Avatar m tn My tooth seems to becoming loose and the area above the tooth in the gums has become inflammed possibly turning in to an abscess, no pain at the moment. Has the treatment failed or something, my dental surgeon said it will be extracted if it fails as there was a 50% chance of the tooth actually being saved (the other 50% chance that it would fail). Does it look like my tooth will be extracted?
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar f tn Even if you decide to hold on to the tooth until it hurts, which some people decide to do, it would be a good idea to have the money readily available for the necessary treatment. But the longer you wait, the more damage can occur and an abscess can spread rapidly.
Avatar m tn I would imagine that an infection starting on the bone and spreading to other areas of the head would be serious matter and perhaps that I would be sent to ER, but she seemed confident in the treatment she put me on. I also find it weird how I suddenly have a fractured bone causing an abscess. She told me it could be an old fracture and that only now the infection started to show itself, but still...
