Common Questions and Answers about Abscess in genital area

abscess

Avatar f tn These can become painful and swollen, and an abscess can form. This often causes blockage in the main duct from the gland, and a cyst develops. This is felt as a painless, hard swelling. In such cases, antibiotics may be helpful, or surgical treatment might be required.
Avatar f tn Does the initial signs alway appear at the site of entry into the body ? The abscess appeared 22 days later but very quickly within hours, however it was in an area that was covered the entire time. Just wondering what risk the viginal fingering / rubbing posed.
Avatar n tn I had unprotected sex with one strange girl 2 years ago, after 2 weeks I got sore around anal area, but I went to Doctor and he told me that it was perianal abscess, since then my semen looks sometimes chocolate in color or blood. However, I had a surgery for the abscess and moreover I had even tested for several STD diseases for many times and the result was all negative.
Avatar n tn From what you are describing I would think it may be a Bartholin's cyst or abscess. The Bartholin glands are in the lower portion of the vagina and while the cyst isn't supposed to be painful, the abscess is and I would imagine if the cyst were big enough it would hurt. You may want to see your gyn about this. Also you can google Bartholin's cyst and you will get a lot of information.

Avatar m tn An abscess is basically a build up of pus and infection in the jaw bone area. I assume that since you've seen a dentist recently, it probably would've been spotted at your last checkup as they generally develop from large cavities. There are abscess that also develop from gum disease as well but assuming you had a cleaning and check up, thats also a little more unlikely. Best to get it checked out and taken care of.
Avatar n tn painful lumps in the anus/rectum, pain and swelling in the anus or buttocks area, painful bowel movements, fever/ or night sweats, and abdominal pain. Antibiotics treat the infection that has caused the abscess. The specific antibiotic depends on what infectious organism has caused the abscess. Whether the abscess is drained or not, antibiotics are always used to treat the underlying infection. Needle aspiration of the abscess to remove the infectious fluid.
Avatar f tn Hi, lump in the gums above and adjacent to the teeth most commonly can be tooth abscess or fistula opening due to infected tooth. You may just check out any frank cavity or food imapaction area in related teeth to the swelling. In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Other possibilties could be pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, periodontal abscess etc. Check out with local dentist to confirm.
Avatar f tn Okay I am taking a class and just learned about genital warts. I read somewhere that if you take a kleenax and put vinegar on it and then hold it on the bump, if it turns red it may be genital warts. Try this and if it turns red then go to the doctor. I would go either way just to make sure.
Avatar m tn I now have this zit/abscess/boil on my groin area. Not on testicles or on penis but on the side of by thigh and groin joint area. It is painful when touched. And i have thigh pain too. But i started having thigh pain after I masturbated yesterday. For the past few months i have been having trouble with over masturbation. So i feel a mild pain on the left side of my thigh and inner thigh. Can this boil be genital herpes?
Avatar m tn For the last 4 months or so Ive had a thickening of the skin over my right axillae. I has a huge abscess in the area which resolved spontaneously after antibiotics. I noticed the irregularity in my skin soon afterwards. The lump hasnt increased in size but it wont go away either. Any thoughts??....thanks.
Avatar f tn Maybe mention to your doctor about a Bartholin gland cyst or abscess. The Bartholin glands make a small amount of fluid that moistens the outer genital area, or vulva. If a Bartholin duct gets blocked, fluid builds up in the gland. The blocked gland is called a Bartholin gland cyst. If the Bartholin gland or duct gets infected, it is called a Bartholin gland abscess.
Avatar m tn While wiping after passing stool I would sometimes feel some irritation in the perianal area, especially when I clench. I finally felt a bit of a lump while I was wiping recently and decided to check it out. It seems to be a small bump/lump right above my anus. (Yes, this is a bit awkward to say.) So now I'm wondering, what could this be? Naturally, I am worried. It is not tough or hard, and it doesn't hurt to touch it.
Avatar m tn really no reason to think this is std related. don't let your guilt from the encounter make you think you had more risk than you did. You've tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia, the 2 most likely std's you would've contracted and they were negative. You are incredibly unlikely to contract trich from a damp towel. your urine test was negative too. you have been on multiple antibiotics as well as had "trauma" in the genital area from your abcesses.
Avatar f tn Hello, This lump can be a hematoma, swollen lymph node in response to an infection, abscess or an inguinal hernia. It is a result of a weakness, tear, gap or opening in the muscle wall of the lower abdomen or groin through which the contents of the abdomen, such as intestine, may protrude through the muscle creating localized pain, pressure and a feeling of heaviness. I suggest you to get this lump examined from a surgeon to confirm the diagnosis. I hope it helps.

Avatar f tn Hello, From your symptoms,it looks like a Bartholin's abscess or cyst. There are glands in the vaginal lips called Bartholin’s glands. These can become painful and swollen, and an abscess can form. Keep your vaginal area clean and dry. Use cold compresses on itchy areas. Do not use soap, alcohol or things that will dry the area. Use vaginal cleansing foam and apply topical antibiotics like Neosporin. Consult a physician if the symptoms persist as you may need oral antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms it looks like an ingrown hair or a boil. Chances of herpes are less. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have been getting a boil or a bump in my pubic area. It comes back around the same spot every 2-3 months or so. The top is pretty soft and around the bottom/base its hard, and about a dime in size. I'm 19 and have not been sexually active as yet. The boil takes about a week to burst and its all blood that comes out. And just lately this same boil has shown up a couple inches from where it used to show up, can you help me? PS I am a male.

Avatar m tn When I research them they really look just like fever blisters I have not noticed a thing in my genital area. I also have not had any return fevers or rashes anywhere on my body. I do have intermittent diarrhea, but I think that is my nerves. I recently have got my energy back. In my follow up appointment with my ENT, he swabbed a canker sore and it came back negative for Herpes. I did not have fever blisters at that time. He also found a canker sore on my esophagus.
Avatar f tn I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.
Avatar m tn Welcome the the STD forum. I'll try to help, but please don't expect any definitive answers. It is almost impossible any online source can clear up the cause of a condition that hasn't been diagnosed by repeated in-person professional evaluations. However, for sure you don't have herpes and most likely no STD of any kind. Herpes was never a serious consideration based on the initial symptoms or exposure.
