Avatar n tn within three days i was in the hospital for a week, CT scan showed a colon abscess, i dodged emergency surgery and responded to IV antibiotics. now i'm two months out of the hospital and a GI and surgical followup recommends bowel resection. i've read that the bowel does not repair itself. what should i do? also could the abscess have actually been caused by the colonoscopy. thanks.
Avatar m tn I had a resection of my sigmoid colon about two and a half months ago. Everything went very well, the surgery and my recovery.I've been feeling fine but in the past few days a pain has started in the area of my navel. Nothing that bad, but it worsens when I lie down. Hasn't kept me from sleeping. I can feel tiny little swellings around my navel. Is this cause for concern ?
Avatar f tn Hi I was giving myself a rectal exam and I noticeda pea sized lump or hard mass deep in my anal cavity. I put my finger in about as far as I could as I curled my finger I felt something hard toward the top of the anal cavity. It didn't hurt or anything, I plan on seeing a doctor about this, but maybe someone can tell me if it sounds like anything you've heard of? It's kind of got me worried.
Avatar f tn I have has a recurring burning sensation in my colon area (lower left abdomen) for a while. It comes and goes. For the last couple weeks it's been more often and hurts a little more. And for the past couple of days, it's been unbearable. I have IBS and have had some constipation here and there. I had my gall bladder out about 8 yrs ago. Other than that I'm not sure what to do. It hurts alot.
Avatar f tn Has he had a cat scan to r/o abscess? An abscess could possibly form from stool leaking out of the colon into the abdominal cavity.
Avatar f tn I'm a 24 year old female with no kids, generally healthy, taking prozac and oral contraceptives. For the last 3+ years I've had some amount of rectal bleeding with every BM. Before the bleeding began, I had a perirectal abscess. I don't know how that could be linked, but shortly after the abscess wound healed, the bleeding began. It is usually a small amount of red blood on the toilet paper. There also appears to be blood on the outside of the stool (the blood is bright red).

Avatar f tn I had a perianal abscess 2 years ago and it turned into a fistula because I let it go too long without treatment. It was operated on with fistulotomy and healed perfectly within 3 months time and I have no further issues with it. My uncle also had the same thing 10 years ago and has experienced no further issues. I tend to have an OCD (diagnosed) and panicky personality, so I've had every test imaginable- colonoscopy with biopsies, IBD blood test, full blood panel, and two fecal tests.
Avatar f tn 4 weeks ago I had what felt like an abscess in my rectum. After a few days I went to the toilet and passed out a bit of blood and what looked like an abscess. I went to the doctors the next day and he said that the bleeding looks like it's coming from further up and not near my rectum. After that I had a day of passing small amounts of blood and after that bowel movements were normal, no blood or diarhhea just a bit of mucus.
Avatar f tn I feel a hard lump on my left side the size of a lentil when I press on my colon. What causes an abnormal T-2 signal? What causes wall thickening in the sigmoid colon? I had a follow-up with a PCP and he did not think I needed surgery, and would not explain the abnormal MRI tests. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Husband went to ER a month ago for abdominal pain, ct was done and they diagnosed him with epiploic appendagitis, so far has gotten worse in pain, and seems to be hurting not just in the one area anymore. Went to a Gastro dr today and he wants to do a colonoscopy next week. I know that my husband needs one, but why wouldn't he look at the appendage in case of complications such as an abscess or something to do with what has already been diagnosed. Can you please advise what we should do?
Avatar m tn I have started experiencing real bad upper abdominal pain just under my breast and the pain stretch right around my body. But worse part is where they removed the gall bladder. I do have a spastic colon and are a gerd (or is it gord) sufferer. Is this because of a wrong diet maybe the eating of meat? Do I have to go back to doctor. I don't sleep at night.
Avatar f tn In 1940, Schatzki (1) stated, “The difficulty in differentiating diverticulitis, particularly of the sigmoid colon, from a carcinoma is as old as the knowledge of diverticulitis as a disease.
Avatar m tn My wife was sent to the hospital about 5 months ago with what appeared to be a abcess in her lower colon. Ever since then she has been suffering from increasing pain in her upper right abdomen (especially sever at night). She also suffers from chills, nausea (recently leading to vomiting), and acid reflux (at night) into her esophagus. She is also Type I Diabetic and suffers from CIDP.
Avatar m tn t have had an effective treatment anyway. The result of the years of constipation was the formation of diverticula in her colon. Unfortunately, one of these became irritated, then infected, and then burst! She had an abscess and peritonitis and almost died. The most effective thing I've found (recommended by my gastroenterologist) is MiraLax, which can now be purchased over the counter.
Avatar m tn For the last 4 months or so Ive had a thickening of the skin over my right axillae. I has a huge abscess in the area which resolved spontaneously after antibiotics. I noticed the irregularity in my skin soon afterwards. The lump hasnt increased in size but it wont go away either. Any thoughts??....thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi angel114, Typically if a abscess forms you take antibiotics, and if it's bad enough they have to also be drained, you can't really "cut out" an abscess,at least not without taking healthy tissue with it. Your grandmother should receive a pelvic exam to determine the cause and extent of the abscess to determine the correct treatment,a small sample may also be taken to rule out cancer beings she is post menopausal.
Avatar m tn An abscess is basically a build up of pus and infection in the jaw bone area. I assume that since you've seen a dentist recently, it probably would've been spotted at your last checkup as they generally develop from large cavities. There are abscess that also develop from gum disease as well but assuming you had a cleaning and check up, thats also a little more unlikely. Best to get it checked out and taken care of.
Avatar f tn More specifically it is called Amoebic Liver Abscess. The abscess, if it is one, is relative small and can be cured by antibiotics. No need to go in for aspiration. It is 100% curable. Also go in for a blood test along with a liver function test to test the levels of the enzymes. But, FIRST consult a good gastroenterologist. I wouldnt worry if I were you.
Avatar n tn painful lumps in the anus/rectum, pain and swelling in the anus or buttocks area, painful bowel movements, fever/ or night sweats, and abdominal pain. Antibiotics treat the infection that has caused the abscess. The specific antibiotic depends on what infectious organism has caused the abscess. Whether the abscess is drained or not, antibiotics are always used to treat the underlying infection. Needle aspiration of the abscess to remove the infectious fluid.
Avatar f tn Last Friday I went in for a sigmoidoscopy and the doctor found inflammation in my rectum and sigmoid colon and small patches of ulceration. My bowel movements are normal and have no blood just a bit of mucus. They have been like this for over 3 weeks since the original episode. The doctor has taken biopsys and seems to think it's definitely ulcerative colitis.
Avatar n tn My husband had colon cancer in 2000, he had surgery and his large intestine removed. 1666982 tn?1445198395 The reason I have reocurring fistulas was due to a abscess that was opened from the wrong direction, by a gynecologist. So maybe another abscess.
Avatar m tn whole area is now tender up into my abdomin. could this be possible tear in colon wall or something? havent pooped in 3 days now but that might be from the percocet. desperately need help. could a doctor reply to me at "***@****" im not sure i can find my way back to this site. i am going back to ER if it gets bigger or fever is still here tomorrow. very worried.. thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn Either your husband has been bitten by something or you have developed an abscess. If it is an abscess it will need to be drained. Take an anti-inflammatory analgesic like ibuprofen and an anti allergic and see if that helps. If it is an insect bite, it will improve. However if the insect’s sting is left inside, then also it will not heal unless the sting is removed. Keep the hand raised on a pillow kept beside him when he is lying—basically avoid the hand hanging down.
Avatar n tn From what you are describing I would think it may be a Bartholin's cyst or abscess. The Bartholin glands are in the lower portion of the vagina and while the cyst isn't supposed to be painful, the abscess is and I would imagine if the cyst were big enough it would hurt. You may want to see your gyn about this. Also you can google Bartholin's cyst and you will get a lot of information.
