Avatar f tn Hi Thanks for writing to the forum! There are many things you can do to lessen the discomfort. "Keep a stress diary. Persons with an irritable bowel have an intestinal system that overreacts to food, stress, and hormonal changes. Avatar n tn within three days i was in the hospital for a week, CT scan showed a colon abscess, i dodged emergency surgery and responded to IV antibiotics. now i'm two months out of the hospital and a GI and surgical followup recommends bowel resection. i've read that the bowel does not repair itself. what should i do? also could the abscess have actually been caused by the colonoscopy. thanks.
Avatar n tn I have had multiple hernia repair all at once last Nov. Starting this March I began not feeling well only to find out after 5 repeated noncontrast use CT scans that I have a abdomen abscess. I was treated three time may-aug with 2 jp drain tubes and then a wound vac. After thinking I was o.k. through sept and oct. we have found through ct no contrast a "residual abscess". What causes this?

Avatar f tn 4 weeks ago I had what felt like an abscess in my rectum. After a few days I went to the toilet and passed out a bit of blood and what looked like an abscess. I went to the doctors the next day and he said that the bleeding looks like it's coming from further up and not near my rectum. After that I had a day of passing small amounts of blood and after that bowel movements were normal, no blood or diarhhea just a bit of mucus.
Avatar n tn After that, you can do daily stretches on your own to prevent recurrence. Also, consider taking a methylcobalamin sublingual or injection supplement in case you are deficient in B12 at the tissue level.

Avatar f tn Pain and discomfort on the lower left side of abdomen can be due to several causes such as Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, adhesions (if you had previous abdominal surgery, IBS, constipation, and an abscess in rectus abdominis muscle or psoas muscle. Since you do not have a lump or a tender hot spot, in all probability it is not a muscle. It could also be a periumbilical hernia that has got trapped resulting in small bowel obstruction or mesenteric ischemia.
Avatar m tn i went to the doctors a month and half a go because i was noticing blood in the toilet and on the tissue paper when i passed a stool. he checked my back passage for hemroids and couldn't find any. he said i could have hemroids inside. he told me to come back in a month if it continues. but since seeing the doctor it has not been happening that often and i even went like 3 weeks without it happening.but today it has started again and there was quite a lot of blood .

Avatar f tn Pain in abdomen can be serious and needs urgent medical attention. Some of the common causes of pain in abdomen are hepatitis or hepatic abscess, cholecystitis, perforated duodenal ulcers, appendicitis, diverticulitis, adenitis, abdominal abscess or hematoma, inflammatory bowel disease etc. You must consult a gastroenterologist as soon as possible for proper examination with tests like ultrasound, blood tests, biochemical tests etc.

Avatar n tn The origin of pain can either be in the abdominal muscles or inside the abdomen. The place which you describe can become painful in case of an abscess or an infected hematoma in abdominal muscles. It could also be a periumbilical hernia that has got trapped resulting in small bowel obstruction or mesenteric ischemia. Early appendicitis too behaves this way and so does peptic ulcer. It could also be cystitis, urinary tract infection, diverticulitis or inflammatory bowel disease.
Avatar m tn For the last 4 months or so Ive had a thickening of the skin over my right axillae. I has a huge abscess in the area which resolved spontaneously after antibiotics. I noticed the irregularity in my skin soon afterwards. The lump hasnt increased in size but it wont go away either. Any thoughts??....thanks.
231903 tn?1281482584 The other causes could be crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, constipation, and an abscess in rectus abdominis muscle or psoas muscle, periumbilical hernia that has got trapped resulting in small bowel obstruction or mesenteric ischemia, aortic aneurysm, ovary involvement (it is possible you now have on left side), ectopic pregnancy, or endometriosis. Do discuss this with your doctor. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi angel114, Typically if a abscess forms you take antibiotics, and if it's bad enough they have to also be drained, you can't really "cut out" an abscess,at least not without taking healthy tissue with it. Your grandmother should receive a pelvic exam to determine the cause and extent of the abscess to determine the correct treatment,a small sample may also be taken to rule out cancer beings she is post menopausal.
Avatar m tn An abscess is basically a build up of pus and infection in the jaw bone area. I assume that since you've seen a dentist recently, it probably would've been spotted at your last checkup as they generally develop from large cavities. There are abscess that also develop from gum disease as well but assuming you had a cleaning and check up, thats also a little more unlikely. Best to get it checked out and taken care of.
Avatar m tn The fistula is linked to alot of bad things .Most anal fistulas originate in anal crypts, which become infected with abscess formation. When the abscess is opened or ruptures, a fistula is formedcauses of anal fistulas include opened perianal or ischiorectal abscesses, which drain spontaneously through these fistulous tracts. Fistulas are also found in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, particularly Crohn disease.[3] The incidence of fissures in Crohn disease is 30-50%.
Avatar n tn 2 weeks after the appendectomy, I was re-admitted for an abscess in my lower abdomen, about the size of a grapefruit, it was drained successfully (5 more days hospitalization), and I believe it hasn't come back - the hospital did a CBC blood count test a week after I was discharged and it turned out normal. I don't "feel" the pressing abscess anymore. One problem that hasn't really gone away is the dull tenderness and heaviness I have in my mid abdomen.
Avatar n tn s disease,....after a hole perforated my bowel...and the abscess formed.....the way that my particular immune system looks after me......I had it drained.....I am now on a medication to prevent more....a medication called Purinethol: Has your sister had any ultra sounds or cat scans done to see if she had Crohn's disease?
Avatar f tn More specifically it is called Amoebic Liver Abscess. The abscess, if it is one, is relative small and can be cured by antibiotics. No need to go in for aspiration. It is 100% curable. Also go in for a blood test along with a liver function test to test the levels of the enzymes. But, FIRST consult a good gastroenterologist. I wouldnt worry if I were you.

Avatar f tn Ask for pain medication afterwards especially at home. Also, invest in a sitz bath to soak your bottom in several times a day. You may have to pack the wound with a 1/2 " packing strip so the wound stays open on the outside. I am actually suffering from perianal fistulas right now. They are not fun either. Very painful and stinging sensation. Good luck and maybe have a colonoscopy done at some point to rule out Crohns/Colitis.
