Avatar n tn He then did a percussion test, tapping firmly on all surfaces of the tooth, and I had no pain. So he recommended using Peroxyl to help the gum heal, and just watching to see if the tooth got worse. Well, the gum healed and the foul taste disappeared. No more throbbing. But the sensitivity to hot and cold has steadily worsened. Now hot or cold food or fluids causes a fair amount of discomfort.
Avatar n tn Hello, This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case. As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Avatar f tn I still have an ulcer and quite a bit of pain on the gum under the crown. The novacaine injection hurt terribly, like never before. Could there have been some damage that I still have pain. The office told me to keep gargling with salt water. But after 10 days, the ulcer from what I think was trauma from the instruments is still here. Can this trauma cause an abscess?
Avatar f tn Hello. The other day underneath my tongue on the bottom of my left gum line I felt pain when I pressed on this area with my tongue. A few days later, it is still painful but now a couple of white spots have developed. When I rub my tongue over the sores it almost tastes salty and as if my gum is punctured. What could this be? Am I in need of medical care?
Avatar m tn When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time. Salt water relieved pain completely when i had my abscessed tooth but now salt water has no effect whatsoever. I went to the doctor and he believed it to be sinusitus and prescribed antibiotics and saline nose rinse.
Avatar n tn A tooth abscess is usually a complication of tooth decay. In a dental abscess, or tooth abscess there is accumulation of pus inside the teeth or gums. The abscess usually originates from a bacterial infection and is mostly caused by a dental infection. The common presenting complaints are severe toothache, breath odour, fever, pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling of gums, swollen glands etc.
Avatar n tn What happens to the gum abscess after the pus leaked out?
Avatar m tn I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Had mini dental implants put in 3 years ago with 4 up top ,, and the gum abscess is right on top of it .
Avatar f tn Swelling gum means you have gum problem or what we call gingivitis... poor oral hygiene cause gingivitis, but in your case, if the crown was bad, like overhanged or undersized there would be a problem, cause this crown may harbor bacteria in the gingival line (gum line) which cause inflammation of the gingiva (gum). The treatment for your case may be replacement of the crown plus proper oral hygiene...
Avatar m tn Ok so about 3/4 weeks ago I was chewing food and felt a pain on my tooth/gum area and noticed a white patch/blotch. It was only that time that hurt because the food was rubbing right on the area. After that I forgot about it and went on about my business. Today I remembered and looked in my mouth and saw the same white patch/blotch still there. It doesn't hurt only when I slipped and scraped it with my finger nail. It is soft, and almost pliable like you can move it side to side.
Avatar f tn If a person presents with say gum disease, decay and defective restorations has no symptoms of pain, or abscesses etc and for whatever reason leaves a tooth untreated for say approx 6-7 months then suddenly develops an abscess with severe pain. Is it probable that during that period without the treatment caused it to become worse and then develop the abscess which required an extraction? When do teeth with cavities become unsaveable that require extraction.
Avatar f tn t going to clear it you need to go to a dentist or ER and let them finish what they started.. Would you rather be in pain forever or overcome your fear and be happy and out of pain. Its a logical answer.
Avatar n tn yesterday i had two teeth pulled due to a gum abscess. I was'n t comfortable about this. I thought if there was infection in your mouth you should'nt have teeth pulled, anyway I have a swollen chec. I am taking medication two different kinds. Three times a day. Is this normal after having teeth pulled.
Avatar n tn Is it still an abscess if I feel no pain but there was drainage? I was prescribed penicillin but it only reduced the swelling, without stopping the drainage.
1881960 tn?1320699966 My doctor gave me penicillin and something for pain but its day 3 and nothing has changed. I can feel the abscess in my mouth for the first time today. It's not getting smaller, only larger! I am 29 and on coumadin and lovenox so no dentist will see me. I've called dozens of dentists to no avail. I am trying not to become frustrated but each passing day I'm stuck in bed isn't helping. Any suggestions ?
Avatar f tn Hi there, I've had an tooth abscess for about a week and a half now. The dentist have given me some antibiotics to take, they took the pain away straight away and the swelling down. But the abscess is still on the gum and it's nearly the end of my course what do it do? I've read up on abscesses like mind and it turns out they can be deadly! Any advice for me would be great.
Avatar m tn This was extremely painful for a few days, the gum went white underneath and there was a lot of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in the tooth. I think this was due to long term problems I have with TMJ but cleared up after a few days. I returned to dentist for crown prep and explained the situation. She prepped the tooth for the crown and said that due to this problem with the temp filling and the fact that the hole went close to the root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar f tn Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar m tn When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth. Just wasn't sure if it should still be sore. I should say it is only sore when I touch up there.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar m tn To whom it may concern, I have a growth in my mouth on the inner side of lower right gum wall. if i look at it looks like a whitehead inside my mouth. it doesn't hurt when I hit it. However the lower gland on the right hand side of my face is slightly swelled up when i feel it. could someone please let me know what it may be? I have been chewing alot of gum lately and i do smoke at the same time... thankyou. Regards.
Avatar m tn On the third day, the pain went away but I developed an abscess on the roof of my mouth behind the lateral incisor. That same day, I went to the ER and had it drained and was put on Amoxil. Now, 1 day later, the abscess seems to have grown in size. Should I get it re-drained? Do I need a root canal?
Avatar f tn Let me know how you get on and hope that it is not an abscess, but just an inflamed gum from something you have eaten. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar m tn I have a dull pain in my gum between two lower, back teeth. When I floss between these two teeth, it is quite sensitive, and when I push with my finger on the back side between the two teeth, there is also some pain. It's gotten worse over the past 3-4 days. There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong. Any ideas on what this might be? Should I see a dentist? Thanks!
529224 tn?1400648219 Getting one or two small boils ( of about 2 mm diameter) from time to time (three times in the last 6 months) on the front-side of the lower gum (i.e., behind the lower lip). There is no pain as such but the boil seems to contain 'pus'. Previously I treated those with saline water gurgle and those disappeared in 2-3 days. Is it anything serious? Do you suggest any medicine/treatement? - Sarit.
