Abscess gum home

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess gum home

abscess

This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum. I know I need to see a dentist and probably get antibiotics but the problem is its christmas day and I wont be able to seek help for several days - possibly a week or more and I cant cope with this pain. Any advice on what I can do at home in the meantime to make it bearable?
I lost part of a filling on Tuesday and contacted the dentist, but they cannot see me for two weeks. Over the past two days, my cheek has swollen and my gum above the tooth is the size of a ping pong. I have amoxicillin at home so I bagan taking that and rinsing with salt water per stuff i read on the web, but the swelling has not gone down and i can't get a hold of my dentist until monday. Should I go to the emergency room or would they tell me the same thing?
Dentist insisted on placing perm crowns - different crown materials (about six weeks ago.) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side. Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks.
I have been cleaning it regularly with salt water and the pain is not in tooth, but mostly in the gum/cheek area above the back molar. I went to see the dentist (I am staying in Bahrain to visit my dad who works here, and went to a dentist here). The dentist, in my opinion, wasn't very good, and told me that I needed a root canal (Duh), and to take an anti-inflammatory, (duh again). He said i didn't need antibiotics as the infection wasn't that big and my body would fight it off.
Now, however, I am in significant pain and my gums and cheek are very swollen on the right side. I had to call my endodontist at home as the office was closed and he prescribed me another z-pak and some more pain meds. My question: Will I still be able to get a root canal, or will the tooth have to be extracted? Currently, it's loose. I can touch it and see it move a little relative to the other teeth. But I assume that has something to do with the swollen gums/cheek?
last week i developed an abcsess in my tooth. my cheek became very swollen. the doctor said the infection from the abscess had passed from my tooth into my cheek. they put me on keeflex. within 24 hours about 60% of the swelling in my cheek had subsided. i am now on day 6 of a 10 days worth of the keeflex.
I have a hard white bump on gum, it doesn't hurt just sore. What would be a good home treatment?
Now, I have headaches, earaches, toothaches, and gum infections at the same time. I called ask- a-nurse in my community, but her only advice to me is to see a doctor. Since I am uninsured she advised me to go to the ER to get some antibiotics. I can't afford to go there because it is very expensive. I went there 2 years ago for a similar situation, and all I got was a BP check and two prescriptions it cost me $958.00. Of course, I could not pay for it.
i had an abscess on a tooth that had already had root canal treatment went to the dentist he said i had the abscess after taking an x ray and said the tooth needed to be removed. without asking whether there was anyone to go home wiith me or if the rest of my day was free, he, under just normal injected into the mouth painkiller proceeded to pull the tooth i felt most of it and screamed i had previously asked can i have gas and air or something he said id be "fine" .
The dentist obviously feels that it is not ready to be lanced just yet. An abscess needs to be ready to be lanced, if it is lanced too soon, no rubbish will come out, but it will be open for more bacteria to enter into the opened cut. At home, make a solution of salty water and use that to rinse your mouth with and then spit it out. Do this a few times a day. Take pain relief as recommended for the pain. Best wishes.
I have an upper left molar which required an emergency root canal during a hiking trip in France due to an abscess in 2011. They redid the root canal (or finished it anyhow) when I returned home, but were not entirely happy with how it was done. Since then, I've had fleeting pain around the tooth, but repeated xrays showed nothing at all unusual. In October 2013 I was in Hong Kong for a job interview and the gum above the tooth became sore and bruised.
As I proceeded to brush my teeth later on last night, I noticed that there was a scratch on the gum/roof of my mouth in the last two upper molars area.It is not a gum boil, it looks like a real scratch and it is sensitive to touch with my tongue/toothbrush/ finger. Also, on the same side of the mouth, the soft gum where my lower wisdom tooth used to be looked slightly scratched too. Today it feels better but the scratches are still there.
I will go and have a dental check up as soon as I return home next week. What exactly is an abscess? is it somehting to worry about? One more question could this abscess have anything to do with my jaw feeling a bit week on the same side? It isn't exactly on the jaw its just above it on the inner side of the lower gum wall. Thankyou for your time.
That was enough to take my appetite away even thru dinner .. husband came home and offered me leftover pizza for which I politely declined not ever knowing if I'll enjoy that particular food again ..... the tooth was to be filled on Monday .. WONDERFUL ... *sarcasm* .. now it needs a crown. Don't get me started -- that's on top of the root canal bill for the abscess nobody knew I had and the tooth next to it that needs a cavity filled. Nope. May not enjoy pizza again for a long time ...
I was at the er on tuesday night and given tramadol for the pain and I explained to them I was already on penicillin I had started sunday night. last night i noticed a bubble on the gum next to my bad tooth...i called all over today and finally got in with a dentist and he drained it...now I get home and the bubble is still there! Is this normal or am I going to have to have it drained again? I really cant afford it. I just paid $150 for my visit today and I dont have dental insurance.
But if I was willing to pay $1800.00 he would go in from up top through the gum and do a upper root canal on the same tooth. I did decide to go forward do the upper root canal much to Dr. surprise when he open up the top root the infection stunk up his whole office he cleaned it out and filled it and I have not had any problems for 2 1/2 years. Now I am on vacation am on a immune suppressor and all of sudden I get a massive tooth ache the same bicuspid. Went ER got antibiotics and painkiller.
Hi well I have been ill for 5 years have had positive ANA but the second one came back negative, I have also had blood tests that would point to Lupus, but so far no diagnosis of anything, even though my dad had Lupus. Anyway I have a gum abscess and the dentist prescribed Erythromycin for me which I have used all my life. (I am 60 now). This has never bothered me before.
I'm thinking I can probably go and see a dentist/oral surgeon and if it IS a cyst they would be able to tell with a much less expensive test. Perhaps split the gum right there in the office with a ton of novacaine, remove the cyst, sew me up, and be done with it. I could also, while there, make arrangements to have that cracked wisdom tooth removed. But this ear, nose and throat guy wants me to spend $1,000 on ONE TEST that won't do a thing for treating whatever it is.
I scratched my gum right above one of my upper teeth a couple of weeks ago, the toothbrush was not soft enough and I tend to brush to rough, anyway, the cut hurt for several days and seemed to go away. Then about a day later it started hurting again and I thought I had rescratched my gum. But after a week of the pain still being there I looked in my mouth and found two small white blister looking sores above where the orginal cut was.
I came across this thread looking for some kind of affirmation to keep stuffing my mouth with 4mg. nicotine. gum. (I am a connoisseur of ONLY CVS brand cinnamon flavor) Instead what I found is the truth- that many of us aren't feeling so hot about our new found (or old friend) addictions to nicotine cessation products. Also you are right about the (wait a minute- I'll need a new piece of gum to finish this...) OK- better now, I'll continue.
MY CAT WAS OUT ALL NIGHT LAST NIGHT AND CAME HOME THIS MORNING. HE WAS FINE ALL DAY UNTIL MY DAD SAID HE HAD A CUT UNDER HIS CHIN OR SOMETHING. I LIFTED UP HIS CHIN AND THERE IS A CIRCULAR CUT..A WOUND AND THERE IS A THING INSIDE OF IT. IT'S A WHITE THING BUT IT'S NOT A BONE. I DON'T THINK IT'S PUS BECAUSE IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF BEING HARD AND SOFT. IT'S LIKE A YELLOW WHITE AND IT SMELLS REALLY BAD. THIS CUT/WOUND IS SURROUNDED BUT A PATCH OF MISSING FUR.
I had a big filling in an upper molar about 3 months ago. The gum area and side of the tooth feel mildly sore and sensitive to cold (but not hot) and I get this aching in the right side of my cheek bone, head and in my ear. Is this the kind of infection that can kill people? i will see my dentist in a week when i return home. in the meantime, what do you think this is causing this?
the inside of my mouth and especially my tongue burn with everything i put into my mouth. gum, ice cream, salsas, chips, hamburger, it doesn't matter, unless it's a cold pudding or cool drink, it burns like wild fire. it has gone on for about two years now and i assumed it was a dental problem so the only doctors i have gone to as of this date are dental hygienests. i in fact have an appoint at a college of dentisty in iowa city next month.
Endodontist said canal too narrow from infection/inflammation, and give me Amoxillin and vicoprofen, follow up next Tuesday. Got home at 3pm. Took meds at 5pm. Drug kicked in after 1 hr, then I feel nauseous and lightheaded, pain came back after 2.5 hrs, threw up at 8pm. Endo dr warned me that I have another bad tooth next to it, and I will feel the pain as if it's from the treated tooth, but he took out all the nerves there, it's merely phantom pain from the neighbor.
I'm surprised the endodontist missed the abscess on #29. Call your oral surgeon for some home care instructions as well. Once the abscess is taken care of, it should feel much better. No antibiotics?
HELP! I got home today from class & my face feels swollen & numb in some places. Not unlike when you go to the dentist. My jaw bone is really sore too. I looked in the mirror & my cheeks do seem a little puffy. I am worried that maybe I came in contact with something & it's already making me sick. A couple of things about my own habits. When I am stressed, I tend to put pressure on my jaw by biting down. I don't realize I am doing it at first, but I stop the moment I do.
Hi Friends, Please come on in and make yourself at home. Get ready, cause it's quite a ride. You can do it!
How does he know the abscess is in the root and not the gum (I don't have any visible or tactile swelling except for the feeling of a raised tooth which I have had for 2.5 weeks), and couldn't the lack of sensitivity be because the dynamics of the injury has changed? If these antibiotics clear it up, should further testing be done before a root canal is performed? I don't want to lose the tooth, but if he finds a root fracture during the procedure the tooth will have to be extracted.
Hi Tramadol Warriors and all New Friends, Please make yourself at home. Part 28 ... wow. Hang on tight!
