Avatar f tn How long does it take for a cavity to develop a periapical abscess? When is the tooth too far gone to save it? Hope to hear from an expert.
Avatar f tn Hi, lump in the gums above and adjacent to the teeth most commonly can be tooth abscess or fistula opening due to infected tooth. You may just check out any frank cavity or food imapaction area in related teeth to the swelling. In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Other possibilties could be pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, periodontal abscess etc. Check out with local dentist to confirm.
Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar m tn When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth. Just wasn't sure if it should still be sore. I should say it is only sore when I touch up there.
Avatar f tn The most common causes of toothache are dental cavity and gum disease .Bruxism can cause jaw tenderness and abnormalities in teeth. If you are not satisfied with your dentist’s opinion seeking a second opinion may be helpful. It is important to rule out any cavity or dental decay. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Do write to me again on how you are doing. Best luck and regards!
Avatar m tn My cheek right above the tooth and next to my nostril has also swelled up. The tooth is perfectly fine, no decay of any kind. The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes.
Avatar f tn I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
Avatar m tn After a few days I noticed that the gum under the tooth had become swollen but I had no pain, so I returned to ask the dentist to file it down as I thought that it was bruising the gum. She had a quick look and said I had an abscess and may need RCT and gave me antibiotics. She said that even though she had suggested temp cement because I was in no pain she had actually used perm cement so would have to drill through. Gum still swollen and felt wobbly, so saw dentist again.
Avatar n tn It could be a fistula which is a tract that travels from a potential abscess site to the gum area. If that's the case and you can't see a doctor immediately, you can try to obtain some antibiotics to try to clear the infection temporarily until you can see a dentist you're comfortable with. It shouldn't swell up as long as the area is open and the pus can drain out. Try using a warm salt rinse to keep the area clean as well.
494236 tn?1364849421 I have a cavity in my very last molar tooth and it's eroded the tooth and the dentist wants to fill it. The tooth doesn't hurt but the gum seems to hurt and I get bleeding during brushing. Is it better to have a fluoride treatment, try mouthwashes fluoride/listerine or is it safer to have the tooth filled?
Avatar f tn My symptoms began about 2 years ago with back to back sinus infections. I consulted an ENT who spent less than 20 minutes w/ me & suggested a CT scan which showed minimal mucus lining in my maxillary sinus cavities. At that time I couldn't be assured it would help & ultimately decided not to go through with the procedure. A month or so later I had severe pain in my left cheek/jaw & then my gum began to swell substantially.
Avatar m tn Dentist put in temp filling for few week - extremely painful for few days, gum went white underneath and lots of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in tooth (prob due to LT problem with TMJ). I returned to dentist for crown prep and she said that due to this problem with temp filling and fact that hole went close to root cavity I may need RCT.
1842266 tn?1318860459 Ive had an abscessed tooth and got that extracted. 2 of my teeth are broken to the gum and one is just the shell of the tooth nothing inside and half broken. I dont have swelling or bleeding gums , I dont have pain just broken decaying teeth.
Avatar f tn It broke about 5 years ago and the inside and the side facing my tongue is completely gone below the gum line with a cavity. The last 4 days I have been in extreme pain including all the bottom teeth on that side, my jaw, ear, neck and head. The four bottom teeth in front of that one have a red line running across the top, it looks like a vein. What is it? I do not have dental insurance but I have some Keflex last and have been taking it along with Motrin for the pain.
Avatar f tn he took his little mirror and looked at the roof of his mouth and ordered xrays (yes he did ahve a cavity) he also had a huge lump on his roof of his mouth. he said it was an abscess and that it needs to be dealt with. Chris lost his 4 upper teeth due to the abscess(they think it was from one of the times he was on a ventalator and that is why he wouldn't let us brush his teeth. I would give her dentist a call first thing monday morning.
Avatar f tn My back top left molar keeps chipping/breaking off. I was chewing some gum before and a piece of it fell off. I had a root canal on that tooth too. What should I do if it gets bigger, the chipping. I have no dental insurance and I can't really pay to have it fixed or pulled out. I am on a fixed income, so it would be hard for me to pay for dental insurance. I don't have a drivers license either.
Avatar n tn What happens to the gum abscess after the pus leaked out?
Avatar m tn I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Had mini dental implants put in 3 years ago with 4 up top ,, and the gum abscess is right on top of it .
Avatar n tn Thermal sensitivity and discomfortable biting are probably associated with occlusal interference. Occlusal adjustment can generally eliminate the symptoms. Gum abscess may result from periodontal or periapical infection. Seeing a periodontist to evaluate periodontal condition is advised.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar m tn To whom it may concern, I have a growth in my mouth on the inner side of lower right gum wall. if i look at it looks like a whitehead inside my mouth. it doesn't hurt when I hit it. However the lower gland on the right hand side of my face is slightly swelled up when i feel it. could someone please let me know what it may be? I have been chewing alot of gum lately and i do smoke at the same time... thankyou. Regards.
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar f tn I have now been referred for an extraction and dental implant and my mind has been put at rest. Turns out it was a large cavity starting under the gum line (my mind was just over-racing about that shadow and imagining something much more sinister). Will now be an expensive but benign problem to deal with. I appreciate your reply and hope this result may put other people's minds at rest too, if they are worrying like i have been!
Avatar n tn Hello, This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case. As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Avatar n tn About a week ago I started getting a toothache in my 2nd molar, upper right side. This particular tooth has had some problems (bad cavity, which was filled). Anyway, I went to the dentist and he said there was another cavity and he would fill it in a couple of weeks but there was a possibility it wouldn't work and the tooth would have to be extracted or i would need RCT.
Avatar f tn For the past couple of days I've been getting a weird feeling on one of me teeth, i didn't mind it much because it had already been filled in and didn't think it possible to get another cavity. Well it hurts a lot now, going to the dentist tomorrow. My question is that with this cavity i have also seemed to have generated a small bump on the roof of my mouth, It bothers me when i poke it. I have no idea what it could be, i'm asking the dentist tomorrow. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn The lesion may be an abscess. Seeing a dentist is advised.
