abscess

How long does the abscess take to drain? as the dentist was looking for drainage that never came. I am looking at going back to the dentist tomorrow morning, should I be on stronger antibiotic? is there anything else I should be doing?
On Sunday I realized the bump was getting bigger again, but this time there was no pain. Today it popped again this time it was just straight pus and at the end it was blood. They were not mixed together. The bump has gone down in size and does not hurt. Is this normal?
Depending on the degree of infection and drainage at the abscess site is the reason for the drains. If there is a lot, then they will put a drain in until the drainage slows down a bit. I hope this helps.
The hole is a drainage hole for the infected material (blood, pus) that collects in a sort of pocket. The water was cloudy most likely because there is at least one more drainage hole on the inside of your cat's mouth that the stuff has been leaking out of. These kind of abcesses are usually started by a minor, one time injury like a puncture or scratch. Since you are only seeing blood when you clean it, it has already drained.
he told me it is an abscess abscess is caused by bacterial or parastic infection thats why he gave me antibiotics but i am afraid that it may spread that's why i am asking if the surgery is important or no?
The fact that the abscess has hardened and draining it was not possible,I presume your Surgeon wants to run more tests probably to evaluate the extent of this abscess or because he thinks that it could be something other than an abscess, such as scar tissue,a fibroadenoma, fat necrosis or other growth. I think your Surgeon is doing the right thing to further investigate this lump, before considering surgery.
I have yet to see any improvement from taking the antibiotics, so I went to the ER yesterday where they attempted to do and Incision and Drainage procedure. Some of the abscess was soft, but a large part of it in the middle was still hard... ??? With making an incision, the doctor was able to squeeze a good portion of the abscess out... but there is still a fairly large sized lump there. There has been no drainage coming from the incision since she did this.
Hi Ladies, I remember reading (I think from Jo) that there is a 2 day time window to get an abscess drained from your doctor. Why is this? When is this? Etc, etc, etc???? My docs have never mentioned this and I have just always had mine burst on their own. I usually take care of the wounds myself, though I did just find out that one of them I should of had packed. My hubby and friend really thought I should go to the doctor but I said it was ok.
I agree, don't be terrified. It actually feels better once it gets out. I had one abscess I could feel it rupturing while I was at work, and I'm a cashier at a grocery store, so I couldn't run anywhere and hide. That one hurt but now, the pain is minimal when they open. I've been waiting for a couple weeks for one of my abscesses to open so it can drain out and heal up. I think of it as a good thing, wanting whatever is in my breast that needs to come out, please get it out.
I am 24 and have suffered with lumps and abscess' for the last 10 years. The first time I ever got one I thought it was something dirty (yet I was a virgin) and was ashamed to tell my mam, However I left it too late and ended up with 2 cratrs on boths sides of my labia. When I did go to the dr's I was given anti biotics and told it was either a blocked duct or hair folicle.
) After feeling the scalple slicing open my abscess, then the doctor found a previous abscess under that one and had to slice it open as well. After all of this, it was time to begin packing the wound with this stringgy gauze filled with antibiotic by using a small pair of sissors to do it. I felt everything! It felt like he was poking the abscess with the sharp sissor and then dragging it around the inside edges of the wound. Another very painful and tramatic experience!
On Thursday I'm going to get the pus drainage with fine needle. Last time it was very painful even 2 times local anesthesia did not worked for me. Doctor said this happened due to inflammation. Anybody have any idea how to manage the pain. Should I take pain killers before getting it done and which one should I take? Also is it true that if we keep getting drainage done the pus will keep coming back so should we not get it done? Please share your experiences. Thanks all!!
Due to a tooth abscess, my cheek swelled out. An endodontist drained it and put my on a course of anti-biotics telling me it had reached a dangerous stage. (Prior to this the other side of my mouth had a gum abscess - and left untreated. My face and neck blew up and then went down without a problem) A week later after the drainage, the swelling is down by about 90% but there remains a hard lump in my cheek, and the surface area of my cheek over it is numb, also affecting my mouth on that side.
For about a year or two Ihave been getting rashes and multiple abcess at a time in both of my under arms, the abscess have appeared in other areas of my body as well. In the past my doctors just keep treating me with antibiotics but they really dont seem to help or keep them away. Cancer runs in my family, my mother fought a long battle with multiple myloma, and my sister is fighting sarcoma. My sister had one of her hips removed in May and now she has tumors in her lungs.
I am getting covered in scars mainly on my stomach and im sick of infections thatmake me feel sick all the time. Any thoughts?
On 2-9 I had sex for the first time in a month. The next night in the shower I felt a very tiny bump left side above the hood. Noticed but not overly concerned at that moment. By day 5 it had grown to size of pea and been that way since. It hurts when I wipe that area and I have a weird smell. panties bother it too so I'm grateful when work is over so I can get home and let her breathe. I've had a hot washcloth on it for about 15 minutes now & it seems like the swelling is going down?
draining that releases the pressure. Anyway, the first time an abscess bursts open, it can be very scary...it's not the kind of thing that "normally" happens, and it's just scary to have something like that happen to your body. After that, though, you can kind of get used to it. It's still very upsetting, but you learn how to manage it. Just remember to keep it clean.
i had root canal treatment done on my upper middle large tooth around twenty years ago, from time to time over the years i felt a little lump on my gum, never caused me pain. last sunday i woke up with a severe pain in this tooth, went to dentist on monday, who took an xray and said i had a abscess. he put me antibotics and gave me pain killers also, its now wed and my lips and gums are swollen, the pain has gone down a tiny bit but i still cant sleep with the pain.
In the acute form antibiotics are administered and eventually incision and drainage of the abscess are performed. In the chronical form excision of the diseased milksinus and fibrotic tissue with the nipple is mandatory. We do not hesitate to excise the majority of the milksinuses.
I have had 6 surgeries for drainage of abscesses and fistulas. I am currently on Remicade maintenance 300 mg every 8 wks. I was hospitalized 3 1/2 weeks ago for what I new was another abcess brewing. MRI revealed (8 mm abscess - they chose to treat with antibiotics and not drain, I opted to go home, after the 3 day stay. I was hospitalized again for three days this past week for the same thing...rectal pain, nausea, low grade fever, MRI now revealed (2) 8 mm abscesses.
Oh Red I'm feeling sorry you have to go through all this but I know its really scary seeing it burst open for the first time. I had my first on burst on its own while the shower and as you mentioned it was that thick clotty blood coming out ( sorry TMI). I was scared too but I called my doctor immediately as I didnt know what to do next. She asked me to clean ot with Betadine (antiseptic solution) which I kept handy ever since this abscess series.
The doctor said that the lymph tissue was dying. They performed cultures and biopsy. The only time she is sick since birth, it has to do with the lymph nodes and nothing else. She has had epstein barr virus before. Could this be something serious? Her CBC came back with high WBC, 24,000. High neutrophils: 80,000. Low RBC, hemoglobin. Low lymphocytes: 12,000. Test did not show if neurtophils were bands or segs.
I didn't have packing or anything at that time. But now every time my breast 'fills up' it bursts through where that incision was. You are so young Suzanne, I am sorry this is happening to you. It's okay to worry that your breasts will still look good. I am 53, and yes I still want mine to look nice. I have been through months of hell with this disease and at the moment my breasts still look fine for the most part.
I get a gross taste when I yawn almost feels like pus draining throught my 2nd to last upper molar on the right side of my mouth. I have had all my teeth checked by a dentist and no abscess has been found, or anything else that would explain the drainage. I have been seeing a lot of doctors recently, none of which seem to help me out with anything. I get some dizziness, and pressure in the ears sometimes as well. I also have what feels like swelling on my hard palate.
Next I went to a breast surgeon and she performed incision and drainage and another ten days of keflex. The abscess still would not heal so I had surgery a few days ago in which the surgeon removed the abscess and I thnk some of the infected ducts. My question is what is the likely hood that this will reoccur again, and im not sure if she removed all of my ducts or just the ones in the affected area.
or maybe it's scar tissue from the original incision (I delayed having it looked at originally as we were on vacation and it was literally the size of a golf ball at the time of the incision and drainage. I have a call into my doctor and awaiting her response.
This was done about 2.5 hours ago. I thought the drainage would make the swelling go down instantaneously. Anyway the prescribed me a stronger antibiotic and painkillers, but I just wanted to make sure because I've been in serious cheek pain for like 4 days. What gives?
If theres a fistula (lil gum boil), sometimes warm salt water will help pull the pus out of the abscess. Otherwise, your dentist can perform an incision and drainage but I wouldn't recommend that route at all. The root canal was done and everything should be fine now. Good luck with hygiene school! Maybe I'll see you at some ADA functions. Best wishes.
Hi Dr. I took my 6yr old siamese cross to the vet on wednesday for an abscess in her paw. My partner and I had trouble finding her on Wednesday, and didn't realise she had come into the house. Next thing she comes out of our bedroom with her left front leg lame and her left front paw swollen to 3 x the normal size, and collapses on the floor in front of us. We rushed her straight to the vet who diagnosed an abscess from a cat fight our girl must have got herself into.
