Common Questions and Answers about Abscess after surgery

abscess

Avatar n tn I started on keflex and scheduled a root canal ASAP. After the root canal and finishing the keflex the abscess was still there. My endontist downplayed it like it's no big deal but he drained the abcess and put me on clymdamycin. Finished all the clymdamycin and the abscess is still there. Endontist says it could take months to heal and sent me on my way. I feel like I need a second opinion. I still have a pea sized abscess on my gums idk what to do.
Avatar m tn ) He gave me antibiotics which made me worse and did not heal up the infection. Finally I had to get the abscess drained - another day surgery and the week after the surgey I was in a lot of pain again. Gradually the next three weeks, the pain subsided and I felt great. However, this last week I have felt pain again and am worried the abscess has come back or the fissure hasn't healed. I go back to see the surgeon next week.
Avatar n tn within three days i was in the hospital for a week, CT scan showed a colon abscess, i dodged emergency surgery and responded to IV antibiotics. now i'm two months out of the hospital and a GI and surgical followup recommends bowel resection. i've read that the bowel does not repair itself. what should i do? also could the abscess have actually been caused by the colonoscopy. thanks.
Avatar f tn I started doing cocaine and now the entire inside of my nose has deteriorated and I’m so scared to see a doctor because I’m embarrassed for letting my body suffer and missing my initial follow up after surgery. My left inner ear has started to hurt and I’m just not sure what to do. I’m so embarrassed and feel sad and sorry for myself that I’ve let this happen. I’m extremely worried that it could be a major infection that can travel to the brain and cause brain injury or damage.
Avatar f tn ve had 4 lots of now I did manage to get appointment with a ENT surgeon but he told me this abscess is not going to go away till I have surgery but then said I wouldn't be able to have surgery for 6 months as they only doing surgery on people with cancer at the moment would you know if that would be the case as I just don't think I can wait 6 months of being unwell it's really affecting me know i don't know where to turn to

Some 20 ml. pus was removed from a 5 cm deep cavity near anus at 01 O'Clock position and 1 cm away. The surgeon put a drain pipe which did not stay more than 1 day and then it was not replaced. He was given antibiotics for 2-3 days and kept under observation and sent home after 5 days.He was advised Betadine sitz bath after each poo. No other medication was prescribed.
Avatar f tn Hi All, I have got a 4-5mm intersphincteric abscess which clearly shows up on an MRI scan. When i went in for surgery to cut it out, my surgeon said he couldn't find the abscess and that there isn't anything he can do to help me as he cannot feel it or find an internal opening from where the abscess is draining inside the anal canal, despite the fact he knows its exact location on the MRI scan! I was devastated when he told me this as this abscess is ruining my life.
6388161 tn?1380846457 Yesterday i went back to the emergency room and the abscess was lanced but nothing came again but blood. Avatar f tn Then as soon as that was fixed I got an abscess that joined up to my anus. Had it lanced and drained/packed and put on antibiotics. Then just recently I have had a abscess develop on my right labia minora, which poped on its own, but not even 5 days later it was back and had to go to theatre for drainage. I have now been informed that during the surgery the doctor picked up on a systolic grade 3 heart murmur. Please has anyone else experienced this it know of anyone who has.
Avatar f tn I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink. It is not hard and not terribly sensitive today. What could have happened to cause this swelling and do you think the abscess has not been completely resolved?
8170270 tn?1413845335 I continue to have pain and migraines but the newer symptoms (symptoms after surgery) include chronic fatigue, intense pressure, weakness in my neck. I've had images done that suggest scar tissue build up is blocking the flow of csf. Surgery was suggested (ETV) but I'm very wary of the idea of another major surgery. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks in advance!
Avatar n tn I had laparoscopic surgery 2 months ago to remove my appendicitis. Now I have a bloated belly after I eat. Right side of my belly hurts, too. No diarrhea, no vomiting, a little constipated even though I drink lots of water and coffee. Went back to my surgeon and had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago plus a blood test to see if there's an abscess. Fortunately, everything was normal. But the pain and bloating are still there. Thank you in advance for your help.
Avatar n tn after 3-4 days another abscess develop just 10mm above and again after 2-3 days 10mm another abscess develop but i am taking antibiotic regularly .what are the reason of repeating abscess & what is the permanent treatment to get rid of these.
Avatar m tn The healing and recovery time differs from person to person, and of course it would also depend on how extensive the surgery will be,depending on how deep the abscess is located.. I am really sorry if I can't be of much help, but I would advise you to ask your surgeon all the questions you have asked here, and I am sure that you'll be much better informed regarding drainage, healing, and especially when you can go back to work since your job is physically demanding.

Avatar f tn It opened up and had to have it surgically opened and drained august 2nd 2017. Packed daily till healed. Shortly after had to have a abscess aspirated with a large needle and they got 37 cc's of fluid. But that still didn't get rid of it. So on August 22nd I had to have surgery again for the same reason. But thos abscess was larger than a grapefruit and had to be packed daily for months. Extreme pain. I ended up having 6 more surgeries for the same reason.
1399266 tn?1280637104 This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth. The vet is new to us as we have move two hours away from our regular vet. They keep telling us that surgery to pull her tooth is the only option. We are at our wits end and dont know what to do. Might this abscess clear up with the antibiotics? If so how long might that take?
20775606 tn?1506086260 The most common think that would cause something as you describe is a conjunctival cyst or inflammed tissue from the surgery/scleral buckle (pyogenic granuloma) or a stitch abscess. All of these would require surgery but it is minor compared to what you had.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone here has had surgery to close a fistula? I had an abscess a month ago, and it led to a fistula that would not heal. So, I have elected to have the surgery, to get the quality of life back I deserve, as I am a otherwise healthy, active young mother of 2. I am nervous, since I have never had surgery. I don't know what to expect, or how long to expect for a recovery.
849683 tn?1239013686 Another possibility is an abscess or hematoma post surgery that causes irritation to the diaphragm when a distended stomach pushes it close to it. It could also be a leaking peptic ulcer. Do go back to your surgeon. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hello, This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case. As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Avatar f tn I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.
