Abscess after laparoscopic appendectomy

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess after laparoscopic appendectomy

abscess

Avatar f tn They performed a laparoscopic appendectomy and removed a little bit of infection from the area. I spent seven days in the hospital. I’ve now been home for 18 days and I’m still having terrible night sweats. They’ve done bloodwork, urinalysis and a CT scan and say they cannot find nothing wrong. My white count is normal, I never have a fever, and the CT scan shows no sign of infection or an abscess. What in the world could be going on?!
Avatar f tn I have had remains of a burst cyst removed from my right ovary and pelvic floor and an appendectomy 3 weeks ago with laparoscopic surgery. Before being hospitalised my Dr thought i had a UTI and prescribed a 3 day course of antibiotics. Still experiencing pain 3 days later he examined me then admitted me to hospital where i had the surgery. I was gradually starting to feel better this week and hoping to go back to work next week when i started to feel really sore again.
Avatar n tn After persistant pain in my lower abdomen, I had a laparoscopic appendectomy 6 weeks ago (3 incisions, one at my belly button, on on the left side of my abdomen, and one on the left side just above my pelvis). They did a scan at the hospital and my appendix hadn't ruptured, but they confirmed appendicitis and removed my appendix the next day. While in hospital (2 days), I was given intravenous antibiotics, but when I went home I was not given antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Ive had an appendectomy and its painful. But i was cut on my right side. Not sure if you had laparoscopic or not? Anyway, you will want to take the meds. The Latin of moving alone is unbearable.
Avatar f tn My 18yr daughter had an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy 7 days ago and after getting home she started limping on her left leg complaining her leg feels weak but it doesn't hurt. We spoke with the surgeon and he thinks it could be nerve related and she should wear a leg brace for a weak and stay of her leg. Should I seek a second opinion?
Avatar m tn When is it safe to have anal sex after having an appendectomy? It has been almost 3 weeks now and I would really like to play with my anus. Also why would I have trouble getting toys deep in my ***? it really upsets me and my girlfriend.
Avatar m tn I (26 M) underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy way back in 2013 after my appendix burst, it was fairly serious - I ended up in the hospital for almost two weeks. Ever since then I've been experiencing bladder/urinary issues that for some reason I've somewhat ignored until recently. The most common issue is frequent urination, I'm up 3-4 times a night going to the bathroom.
Avatar n tn My 9 year old had a Appendectomy a month ago and after a week in the hospital he's still not having much physical activity and still reating for the most part. This morning he started having a bad stomach ache and it's been off and on all day. Could this have anything to do with his Appendcitus?
Avatar n tn 2 weeks after the appendectomy, I was re-admitted for an abscess in my lower abdomen, about the size of a grapefruit, it was drained successfully (5 more days hospitalization), and I believe it hasn't come back - the hospital did a CBC blood count test a week after I was discharged and it turned out normal. I don't "feel" the pressing abscess anymore. One problem that hasn't really gone away is the dull tenderness and heaviness I have in my mid abdomen.
Avatar f tn I'm interested to know how your stomach healed? I'm having the same symptoms 4 months after my appendectomy. Hardness and swelling around stomach incision. I'm very bothered by it and my doctor thinks its edema. I have a feeling its not edema and hope it heals soon. Your response would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old daugher had a laparoscopic appendectomy 14 days ago (did not perferate or burst). For 8 days after, she had a little bit of visible blood in her urine - especially after walking around. The last 5 days it visibly disappeared, but showed up as 'trace' in her urine sample today. Has anybody had this problem? Doctors do not know what is causing it. Surgeon said it was not due to the surgery?!? She has no other symptoms (blood pressure fine, no fever, active, etc.).
Avatar f tn My pain is not the same kind of pain I had prior or even right after my appendectomy. It is different. The nausea after eating has been consistent. My GP doesn't want to do anything because he thinks this is all related to the cyst, but my gut, figuratively & literally, tells me otherwise. I am hoping that I do not end up with pain for years as a result of an appendectomy. I just can't figure out what's going on. Thanks for commenting, though.
Avatar n tn To the other people that I saw commenting on this when you posted it previously, this is sometimes done. Sometimes the doctor will give you the antibiotic therapy and then wait to take out the appendix until it has "calmed down" a little bit. You really need to ask your doctor which exercises you can do. Without knowing your exact situation we don't know what to recommend. I would call your doctor and ask them this.
Avatar f tn You can even ask them if they did the second surgery and procedures to clear up the post-appendectomy infection and abscess that I described that they should have done. Let us know what happens.
Avatar n tn About three years ago I had an emergency appendectomy, non laparoscopic. About two years ago I started having troubles with diarrhea and occasional blood spotting. I'm a bit on the stubborn side so I figured it'd just go away with time (that, and I was deployed). Lately, I've been having the same issues with a lot more frequency and severity. The doctor told me this week after a particularly obnoxious episode and subsequent checkup that I needed a colonoscopy (joy).
Avatar n tn m 41yrs old, in reasonable fitness and health but have been diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and have had a drain/antibiotic therapy to clear up the infection and abscess. The appendix will be taken out in 4 weeks' time. What range of physical activity should I carry out in the interval? Would there be a risk of causing damage by lifting, bending, moderate gym exercise etc ? Thanks..
Avatar n tn I am so sorry this happened to you. I did not have an abscess but a number of other problems after having a hysterectomy (which should have never been done). I don't know much about abscesses but any abdominal infection can be serious. Hopefully, yours is under control and you are on the road to recovery. Did they remove the drain and bag yet? Please keep us posted.
Avatar n tn My 12-year-old daughter was diagnosed as being hypothyroid last summer, two months later had an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy....since then monthly, she has a day of vomiting several times. Before this, I can't remember the last time she vomited. In the past three months, the vomiting has gotten to be more often 2-3 times monthly and in the past week has been accompanied by diarrhea for two days...then three days fine...now vomiting and diarrhea again. Help!
Avatar f tn If you are having a laparoscopic procedure, the recovery time is only a few weeks. There will be 3 small incisions at the belly button, the "bikini Line" and one in between. There may be a little discomfort for the first day or so and there will be bruising..Your Dx. is a little different than mine, but the end result is the same.. My stitches were removed in 1 week, and I went to the grocery store the same week..
Avatar n tn s time to get another opinion. Because after 2 months and she is still not healed, then something else is going on. It is possible that she could have developed an abscess underneath her incision that prevented it from healing properly; it could be infected. If your current doctor isn't willing to help her, then find another one ASAP.
Avatar n tn CT abdomen and pelvis 10/1/2012. TECHNIQUE: Axial images from the lung bases to the symphysis are performed with additional coronal reformatted images. 100 mL of Isovue 370 are given intravenously. Oral contrast is also given. FINDINGS: The lung bases are clear. Abdomen: There is diffuse fatty infiltration of liver. Prior cholecystectomy changes are noted. A probable tiny cyst is noted in the lateral mid spleen measuring only 2 or 3 mm in size on image 27.
Avatar f tn t find a forum for Appendicitis anywhere on this website which I found bizarre. My husband had an emergency appendectomy on 26th Jan. It was laporoscopic surgery and they also found an abcess that was infected so he had a drain attached to him in hospital for 4 days to drain all the toxins out. They sent him home 30th Jan for a weeks rest and antibiotics to take. I had to take him back to emergency 8th feb as he had high fevers and pain in the same area.
Avatar f tn I have incredibly low appetite (1 meal per day, sometimes just like snacking, and always after 4PM as the pain and nausea in the earlier parts of the day are too intense). In June 2017 my appendix was removed due to appendicitis.
Avatar m tn m 41 years old and in March of 2010 I had brain surgery to clip an unruptured aneurysm. Then 3 months later I had a laparoscopic appendectomy. I also have prostate problems (chronic prostatitis) & stomach problems. And I have been diagnosed with IBS, GASTRITIS, DIVERTICULOSIS. Last year I went through lots of tests & lots of doctors: multiple CAT scans, MRI, ultra sounds, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood work, 3 ER visits, etc. So far all the tests came back negative.
Avatar n tn I think it is pelvic inflammatory disease which is causing pain in the lower abdomen after urination and after sex. But it is difficult to say without physical examination. Pelvic inflammatory disease is a term for inflammation of the female uterus, fallopian tubes, and/or ovaries as it progresses to scar formation with adhesions to nearby tissues and organs. This may lead to tissue necrosis and sometimes abscess formation.
Avatar m tn ) something inside me, in my lower abdomen, literally pop. After a few more minutes, I was in so much pain that I had to stop. It was a cramping, dull-ish stabbing between right below my belly button and my groin. right side It took me about a week to recover and not have any more pain during intercourse (as an aside, we tried to have sex again a couple days later and I think that exacerbated it.) Over the next couple of weeks the pain became so intense I absolutely thought I was going to die.
Avatar n tn I had a laparoscopic appendectomy 11 days ago, I was feeling much better after about a week of surgery. The last few days, however, I have developed a horrible pain in the lower left quadrant of my abdomen. It feels like a burning pain with pressure, also the pain gets sharp and increases from going from sitting to standing or vice versa, and even worse when I cough or sneeze.
