Abscess after incision

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess after incision

abscess

Hi, The abscess in your breast should be lanced and drained. But if your infection keeps coming back after incision and drainage, a wide excision of the infected area may help. Has your doctor made a culture of the infecting organism? If not, then it should be done so that a proper antibiotic treatment can be focused on the offending organism. It is also possible that your infection keeps coming back because you have some other illness which could affect your immune system, such as diabetes.
I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.
Why do I still have pain in my breast abscess wound after my breast abscess incision heals?
He was advised Betadine sitz bath after each poo. No other medication was prescribed. Now after 4 weeks, the wound where incision was made is not healed yet.It keeps getting inflamed and pus runs out, time to time. One day it is quiet and the next day it is inflamed. I am worried as to how long it will take to heal. Will he recover fully? or would he need another surgery- fistulotomy- I am totally new to this and am lost. What should be done? Can you please help. Thanks.

Sometimes breast abscesses are very difficult to deal with, but unless your breast Surgeon has more information regarding your condition than what you are describing here,a subareolar abscess is usually first treated with antibiotics and if it doesn't clear up an incision and drainage is performed. If the abscess reoccurs, the surgeon would remove the abscessed cysts including the infected ducts. Hoping that all goes well for you..
Doctor performed surgery/ incision around her rectum area to drain the abscess immediately. However, about a month later, there is an abscess build up again around her viginal area. Went back to ER, Doctor performed surgery around her vignal area this time to drain the pus. She didn't has any fever both time. Two weeks after the 2nd sugery, she flet the paint and lump or swollen around her viginal area again (she is still taking her antibiotic at the time).
For 2 weeks I have been dealing with a very painful abscess on my ear, where after alot of research and several trips to a local medical clinic and ER, I have found that what I have is an abscess in the Preauricular pit/sinus. I have been given 3 rounds of antibiotics, one of which I am still taking (Clindamyacin). I have yet to see any improvement from taking the antibiotics, so I went to the ER yesterday where they attempted to do and Incision and Drainage procedure.
I went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a bartholin gland abscess. Had the incision and a word catheter was inserted as well. A couple days after this I had a follow up appointment with the local womens clinic and was referred there by the doctor who performed the first i and d. I was then diagnosed with a labial abscess as well and that day had to have another surgery with incision and drainage. I also was diagnosed with mrsa staph infection.
I was forced to so breast feeding on the spot and i was rushed in to have the abscess drained and a tube put in place. It's been two months now since, the incision is closed and healed, the redness is gone, but i still have shadowing lightly under the skin that looks kind of like the bruising from stretch marks and the area where the abscess has been is indented and there is a notable size difference between my breasts, the abscesses one being a cup size smaller than the other.
I don't have any rotten teeth or fillings and after wearing a brace and looking after my teeth really well I am so upset! The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! I too have IGM or GM. I wanted to share my experience. Seven weeks after my biopsy, the healed incision became red, then blistered and broken open and oozed fluid... yellowish color 1-7 days, then turned green pus like 10 days later. The first culture was not infected 1-5 day from first bursting. The second visit to my doctor 7-14 days later, drainage was more pus like fluid, the doctor milked the sac and was very painful. I am now awaiting to see what the 2nd culture results are.
In the acute form antibiotics are administered and eventually incision and drainage of the abscess are performed. In the chronical form excision of the diseased milksinus and fibrotic tissue with the nipple is mandatory. We do not hesitate to excise the majority of the milksinuses.
I freaked out after my incision opened up while driving home from work and had my whole shirt drenched in brown and red drainage. I went to the ER and was just told to keep a guaze over it and keep it really tight. Now I pack and clean my own open wounds with gauze and have become comfortable doing it. I clean it twice a day with saline solution and pack it with gauze.
I had glue on my incision and part of it was "torn out" when I took off my scarf one day... leaving a gaping hole in my neck. I cleaned it with soap and water and put first aid tape on it. I told my surgeon what had happened and what I did and he said, "good job." I would recommend you try the same, but if you see redness, feel warmth, or have abundant discharge, get an appt. w/your surgeon.
Also I was wondering if anyone's breasts have returned to normal after any form of treatment? After having the abscess drained my left breast is a little more than half the size of my right and still is lumpy and flat on one side. I know I shouldnt be vein but I am only 23 and wonder if this could stay this way forever. Once again, thank you all for stories and responses. I always look forward to reading these posts and hearing how everyone is doing.
Over a month ago, an abscess formed on the back of my thigh (midway between bottom of buttock and top of knee). I was on vacation and delayed medical care. Finally it became huge and I went to ER where it was lanced and packed and I was given Bactrim and Cipro for 5 days. I used compresses on it. The culture came back (days later) as strep. After another 10 days, it reddened again and seemed a bit bumpy. I was put on 10 days of Clindmycin. Just completed that course.
An abscess was drained from the scrotum and open drainage was done to decompress the area. Closing tthe incision site may prevent total drainage of the abscess and may also cause the abscess to recur and result to compression of nearby structures. I suggest you discuss this with your surgeon. I do not think they will be stitching this together. Wound healing may take a while. Do you still take your antibiotics? Wound healing may be disrupted in the persistence of an infection.
If theres a fistula (lil gum boil), sometimes warm salt water will help pull the pus out of the abscess. Otherwise, your dentist can perform an incision and drainage but I wouldn't recommend that route at all. The root canal was done and everything should be fine now. Good luck with hygiene school! Maybe I'll see you at some ADA functions. Best wishes.
Usually after it drains it seems to heal pretty fast. Bummer that it happened. Have you decided to have the second half removed? I hope it works out well for you...its kind of a tough call.
I had ACL / MANISCUS surgery last april 2012. I Hit my incision 4 different times from nov-December moving. I have been back to surgeon because my incision swelled 2 weeks then ruptured out ooz for 2 weeks stopped for 2 days now has done the same thing over and it will not quit swelling and oozing. they did blood work ultrasound bone xray all was well but i can not afford to go back to the doctor every week to follow up. Is this a hemotoma under the incision and will it heal on its own.
I had a root canal done on tooth #29 about ten years ago after an injury to the tooth. All seemed well until I noticed a swelling under this tooth a few weeks ago that hurt when pressed. I called the dentist and was told I had an abscess. She prescribed me 150mg Clindamycin over ten days for the infection and referred me to an endodontist. The endodontist retreated the root canal a couple weeks later. A few hours after the retreated root canal became horribly painful and I noticed some swelling.
It sounds like you need to see an oral surgeon so the doctor can do an I and D(incision and drainage) to release the pressure if the area is fluctuate.
Please help anyone? 7 wks ago i got an abscess incision and drainage(jus next 2 anus) after being admitted to hospital it literally accured over a 3 day period with antibiotics having no effect, the insision was so small it made the packing of cavity the most painfull ordeal i have ever experienced..
, It would be my assumption that when one of the stitch abscesses along the incision line ruptured last week the germ got transfered by my hands even though I washed them, etc., etc., ? or is this infection along the incision actually moving ? Should I be more concerned than I presently am? I have prescrip ointment (antibiotic Mycopurin)in the house from my daughter's laceration awhile ago that I've started to use topically along with hot soaks there, now, too ... UGH What do you think?
My surgeon will give this 3 weeks to a) resolve b)get worse or c) stay the same. He wants to go back into the incision and clean it out in the OR and/or do a TT bcz of the microcarinomas found on the removed lobe. What are your thoughts? Ever had this happen with any of your surgeries? Are multiple points like this really that uncommon? I am going to see my Primary Dr. today to get his opinion and seek another opinion from another surgeon.
on the first night home there was an excessive amount of drainage and he returned to the emergency room, now he had a fistula draining from the surgery site to the lower part of the incision...the drainage was feces..in a few days the upper part on the incision opened and started draining yellowish green pus...he stayed in the hospital another week and was sent home with the instructions to use an ostomy bag to collect the drainage...
Sometimes, if the skin incision site has sealed over but the infection has gained access to the deeper subcutaneous fatty tissues, pus and infection will build up underneath the skin producing a painful pus-filled swelling called an abscess. When the abscess bursts, large amounts of pus will drain out of the area. Wound infection is very uncommon in most routine desexing surgeries and most commonly occurs because of poor home care.
