Abilify with paxil

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify with paxil

abilify

The first question to me is whether the Paxil was working or not. If it wasn't, then augmenting it with Abilify probably wasn't the best approach -- changing the medication would be. Of course, getting off Paxil is difficult. Generally, you augment a medication when it's working but just not quite well enough, or when nothing you tried worked.
Is this something that goes away once you're on the med for awhile? I already had severe anxiety with panic, I don't want to add deppression on because of the meds, if this is the case. Now the dr. wants me to try the 5 mg of lexapro and 2.5 mg of the abilify together, but I'm scared! I hate taking meds anyway but want to feel better. I have also been taking .25 mgs of zanax 3 times a day. I don't want to become a zombie!
Abilify can be used to augment antidepressants such as Lexapro. I use Lamictal to augment my Pristiq and it works much better than just the Antidepressant alone. Combining SSRI's or SNRI's with mood stabilizing drugs such as Abilify or Lamictal can often help a lot. Although they do take a good few weeks to kick in. In the past I have taken just about every drug you mentioned above, but I am supprised that your doctor has never tried you on an SNRI such as Effexor XR or Pristiq.
My son has been diagnosed with Asperger's with the side diagnosis of OCD. He has been prescribed 50 mg Paxil in the night for OCD.
Thank goodness for you, Ryan. I am quite alarmed by the amount of posts that I've been reading from people whose physicians are putting them on antipsychotics when a medication with a much safer side effect profile is indicated and their diagnosis is for things like OCD and anxiety. Once I saw tardive dyskinesia, it frightened the hell out of me...Clearly, no one should take an antipsychotic unless their condition warrants it.
Weight gain is a known common side-effect of Abilify. I have attended inservices with Abilify marketers where weight management techniques (diet and exercise) were emphasized. As suggested, speak with your doctor about it. If it becomes a problem, maybe a weight-neutral antidepressant (Wellbutrin, for example) would be equally effective. However, it's important to continue to take the meds as prescribed while discussing your concerns with your MD.
He took himself off the abilify and is still trying to make do with Paxil. What should we do? Do we try another medicine? Do we go back to Lexapro since we know it works even though it only seems to help for about 6 months? Is it possible that going back to Lexapro and adding Abilify could do the trick? I'm at a loss and just want my husband to be happy so that I can be happy!

Do we go back to Lexapro since we know it works even though it only seems to help for about 6 months? Is it safe to switch medications every six months when his body gets used to it? She was put on Abilify and told to continue her use of Paxil. Her erratic behavior still continues, she lashes out at anyone who tries to help her or talk with her. I have reached the point that I am proceeding with a divorce, but I still have so many questions. Could Paxil cause this behavior? She was perfectly normal and loving wife until the Paxil started. Her psychiatrist recommended that she not go off of the Paxil, but I truly believe that this is the cause of her manic behavior.
My Doctor prescribed me Abilify as an enhancer for my Paxil/Xanax cocktail. Long story short, I was taking 2mg of abilify once a day. Recently My Insurance decided they were going to be the Doctor and my funding for the Abilify ran out. I am not going to pay $543.00 for meds can't afford it and think that price is ludicrous. So now I am in cold turkey wean from Abilify. I know that I won't die from this, I know that my anxiety will increase big time.
I just wanted to share that I take abilify 3 mg for help with depression along with Lexapro. I feel like a new person. I have energy, I am optimistic and I feel better than I ever have. It is worth trying. I was put on it after bouts of depression that landed me in the hospital with an overdose. I am also an alcoholic, and since trying abilify I have no desire whatsover to drink, which is truly amazing. I just feel so good, the thought of drinking does not even come to mind.
Wonder why he didn't offer that as an alternative. As for the Abilify. I'm not Bi-polar either and I would not ever take Abilify unless I was. There are way to many other options avalible. Abilify is a good medication for those that need it, but it does have a considerably higher occurance of severe side effects than other treatments.

I feel like I've done a lot of research and it all points to it I just want to know if this is what it's like for others. Is this what you have to deal with? I took Paxil in teen years for depression but it just made it worse.
I have no idea if this is connected, but I feel so sick. Is there any way to lessen paxil withdrawal? And what on earth happened with the caffinee?
One of my problems is I have Lupus which exacerbates depression and on top of that I have been on steroids full time for the past 4 years which also exacerbates depression. Along with both those things, not being able to do all the things i want to do because i dont feel well causes me alot of depression also. Last year I went into a very very bad depression due to the steroids. It was the most horrible feeling I have ever had.
HI, I can totally relate to the elevated mania with the Abilify. I had a bad reaction to Paxil and had extreme anxiety and panic attacks with irritability so they put me on Seraquel. Was not the drug for me! After 4 days on the Seraquel it had the reverse effect similar to your Abilify experience and it made me very manic and constantly anxious. My Doctor then said try Adivan to get you back on a normal playing field and to deal with the Anxiety. It's been a miracle drug! It worked perfectly.
he takes 25 mg straterra in the am and 2.5 mg of abilify in the evening with the 25 mg of Zoloft. Please if anyone has any thoughts, info, techniques, that could help us please let me know. I'm feeling overwhelmed and scared for him.
My son currently sees a psychiatrist in Louisville who is somewhat familiar with Asperger's and I am ok pleased, but I am most concerned with the type medication he takes, which is Paxil 25mg, Abilify 5mg, and Adderall XR 10mg. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
I do worry seriously about someone doing a trial with abilify and prozac - neither of these drugs is new and their affect are know - SSRI drugs are the new big thing in Bipolar treatment and thats alarming considering they can send a significant portion of patients into dysphoric mania (also know as mixed episodes) which is the most dangerous state for bipolars - most suicide attempts for bipolar's come during mixed episodes.
Cytomel (5 mcg, 1-2 pills 3 times per day = 30 mcg, however I only got to try 5 mcg, had a bad reaction with Paxil and stopped everything) 43. Taurine (500 MG, taking 3 throughout the day) 44. Nasonex (10g, 2x per day, 2x in each nostril) 45. Flonase (50mcg, not sure how many times per day) 46. Took vitamins B12, B6, Multivitamin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, multi-vitamins, Lysine 47. Temanepam 48. Amitryptaline 49.
It's freedom from watching the clock - always having to ensure that I remember to bring a pill with me when I leave the house...always counting down for the next dose so I won't start feeling the damn rebound anxiety from this crummy li'l pill... So, my shrink said I had 2 choices: Stop taking it altogether (yikes! stop taking 3/day doses of .125 mg. - nope - didn't feel right), or cut the last dose of the day in 1/2...do that for 2 weeks, then ........stop......
I have been going up slowly on my paxil from 12.5mg to 25mg to 37.5mg to my current does of Paxil CR 50mg for 4 days. This has been going on for 6 weeks and I still don't feel a noticeable amount of relief. Morning anxiety is still horrible. Concentration problems at work. Lump in throat. Back pain. Loss of appetite...you name it. The psychiatrist mentioned me staying on 50 for a couple of weeks and then maybe adding Abilify? Isn't that an antipsychotic medication?
and so far I have only read that Abilify is only approved for teens with bipolar or schitzophrania. So far the dr has not answered my questions regarding the use of these two meds. I am very concerned! Can anyone help with and advice or feedback please???
I have tried everything but Effexor, Cymbalta and Paxil. Haven't tried any mood stablilizers except the Abilify. The Lexapro worked for 2-3 years wonderfully and by itself. I am looking for the same emotional feeling I had with the Lexapro. Any ideas on what to try next? My Dr. is pretty flexible. Maybe quit the Pristiq and try something else and keep with the Abilify and Wellbutrin? I am a 51 year young lady who has been happily married 23 years. This old depression really gets me down.
My son has been taking paxil for a year now. He also started taking abilify 5mg and deplin 7.5mg in December. He has been experiencing muscle twitching for a month now so his doctor took him down to 2.5mg of abilify and them completly off the end of last week. He is still noticably twitching in his upper body and face. Could the deplin be causing this or does it just take a while for the ability to get out of his system. Do you think the twitching will go away?
I finally was able to get rid of him, not just due to the Abilify snafu but because he never listened to me or my problems instead his sole purpose was to push unneeded medications on people. I stopped taking Abilify seven months, with my primary physician's approval, before I told my Shrink -- he was not happy with me in the least. Of course, the same day I told him I'd been off the Abilify for seven months was also the day I fired him.
Hi, I was on paxil 20 mgs for 11 years - gained so much weight and was switched to Zoloft. On Zoloft 50 mgs and anxiety/depression came back. Dr. upped it to 100 mgs and then it came back again. I switched doctors as mine was getting older and he switched me to Lexapro. It worked for 1 year and came back again. You are not goin to believe this but I went back to the kind older doctor who treated me for years. He is 80.
Abilify will also work at antagonizing some receptors (some are the same) but some antagonizing actions are minimal. If you don't want to gain weight I would go with Abilify and otherwise I would give Remeron a try before but it's a subject you will discuss with your doctor to see what he/she thinks.
