Abilify tics

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify tics

abilify

Avatar n tn He was prescribed Lamictal in lieu of Abilify, but we had to wait until we got the correct dosage before taking him off Abilify. His tics seemed to be less intense while on Abilify. Could this be my imagination since at this time the tics and more intense and prevalent? I also wanted to mention that his vocal tics were mostly throat clearing, nothing verbal and so witht this in mind, do you think that he still could have Tourettes? And exactly what medication help manage tics?
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar n tn I wonder if it is just the normal coming and going of tics. Once thing I have learned about the tics is to be patient as they will pass. I know that is hard.....I can hardly stand when he starts a new tic, but they have always stopped (or moved on to another tic). I think he is on way too many meds. Risperdal made my normally too skinny son overweight too. I can't say for sure, but I think the Intuniv might have been the one that gave my son more tics???
Avatar f tn He starts occupational therapy next week and just started seeing a psychiatrist a month ago. His next appt is Thursday morning and the doctor is wanting to put him on abilify or resperdil and I was wondering if anyone has used either of these and if they helped or had any bad side effects.
Avatar f tn I've been on abilify and lexapro for bipolar depression and I have random twitches all over my body. Plus it's not helping with the depression. The mood swings have gotten better but even Getting out of bed is hard. Like a heavy weight dragging me down. Any suggestions on what to do?
Avatar m tn m taking cogentin, it should be stopping things like this and it was working fine after they reduced my dosage until just now when this started happening. I also take Abilify. My cheeks feel like they are starting to want to tense up with it sometimes as well.
Avatar m tn What drugs were you on before? Were you on any atypical antipsychotics, like Seroquel or Abilify (which can be added to SSRI antidepressants)? The antipsychotics can cause tardive dyskinesia, which is a movement disorder that is sometimes permanent. You should talk to your doctor about these tics, since they're new and seem to be drug related.
644988 tn?1236364548 I have a ten year old son with Tourettes and it was confirmed by paed neurologist at age 8 though started his various tics at 6. We worked out the diagnosis about half way through that time. He's brilliant and only has mild Tourettes, if anything getting better not worse, though obviously waxes and wanes. The thing is, we went through the mill, initially devastated then guilt then frustrated and got through two or three referals before we found anyone who knew what they were talking about.
Avatar f tn After needing to increase it and having him wet during the day we switched to abilify! I think it is working somewhat although he still has his meltdowns! The dr prescribed concerta now along with the abilify and dropping the strattera. This morning is the first time with it and he is very evry happy, loud, not really concentrating well and he is only taking 19mg. What should I do i can't reach his dr until monday!! Thanks for your help!
Avatar n tn My son has PANDAS and tics and compulsions and ADHD. We have been dealing with his symptoms for five years. How do you find a Dr. who understand and can help you deal with this horrible disease? I don't know how to deal with these repetitive behaviors he gets after illness or being around strep. This fall he has been exposed to strep and he is now doing toe curling tics and finger cracking over and over. It is going on six weeks since they started.
Avatar f tn Well, it was not the Lithium that caused the twitching, as I had a Lithium level drawn after stopping it and the Vyvanse, and my level was a little bit low, indicating that it had probably been at normal levels just a day or two before. Now I have a script for Concerta to replace the Vyvanse, I am just waiting on insurance's prior authorization. I am still on the Prozac and am back on Abilify. The twitching slowly subsided, as did the eye pain, nausea, and dizziness.
Avatar m tn Hello, Childhood tics are not uncommon. The majority of children simply outgrow them. There are prescription medications that can help reduce the frequency and severity of tics, but they generally come with negative side effects. Most patients with tics or Tourette's do not require medication and simply learn to cope with their tics. The vast majority of Tourette's cases are in children and adolescents, and rarely does it continue into adulthood.
969557 tn?1314370614 After 1 year I quit because I developed tics in my neck wich became very painful and the doctors thought it was a sideeffect. It has never stopped since. I was using Orap for a while, which worked, but I became very tired of it and was sleeping all the time. Stopped using it when I got diagnosed with hep c, not to cause damage at my liver. Now I get 4 injections of Botox in my nech every three months, but are a bit worried about eventually loosing the strength in my neck.
Avatar n tn They can be simple motor tics, such as blinking of the eyes or shrugging of the shoulders, or they can be complex motor tics, resembling a purposeful movement. Tics can also be vocal, such as grunting or verbalizing. Tics can occur in isolation or they may occur as part of Tourette's syndrome. In order for Tourette's to be diagnosed, there must be both motor and vocal tics that occur for over 1 year and start before the age of 18, and are not attributable to other causes.

Avatar n tn I also have three children, the oldest and youngest affected by tics, and the middle (son) not. My oldest was put on Ritalin for elementary school. He had tics, and they stopped when he was taken off Ritalin. My youngest son never was put on any medication, he has tics that come and go. My middle child (a son) has no tics, and no ADHD. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Most kids are diagnosed between 3rd and 4th grade, but they would have to have both vocal tics and motor tics for at least one year prior. My kids are now 14 yrs, 10 yrs, 7yrs, and 19 months old. All three older girls have been diagnosed. My third daughter was diagnosed at 3 1/2 yrs old, my oldest at 8 yrs old, and my middle daughter at 9 yrs old. My son has not been diagnosed yet. He doesn't seem to have motor tics yet, but it sounds like he has had a few vocal tics already.
Avatar n tn My 3 yr old son is currently being put through a whole set of tests to rule out seizures, vision problems, etc. He has developed rapid eye blinking which is increasing in episodes. We also noticed during some of these episodes that he rolls his top lip under or seems to be biting it. His pediatrician suspects he has developed "Tics" but a confirmed diagnosis has not been given.
Avatar f tn My son is 8 years old now and we noticed his tics when he was about 6. Initially, his tics included opening his mouth wide, rolling and bobbing his head, stretching his neck and moving his wrists. Eventually, he started hopping a bit, extending his arms and having vocal tics. When he was 7, I noticed that his tics were significantly reduced five days into a trip to the Caribbean. The following summer which happened to be very sunny, it seemed that again the severity of his tics was reduced.
Avatar n tn However, within the past year she has started displaying frequent motor tics and recently vocal tics. Her motor tics started with blinking/rolling her eyes. They have progressed to neck shrugs and hand twists. Lately, she makes a "un" gutteral sound. The vocal tics are occuring as often as 1-2 times a minute. Is there any connection between her early seizures and tics?
Avatar n tn My daughter (12 years old) has been diagnosed with TS since 5 years of age. Her tics usually last about 3 to 4 months before changing to a different tic. Some we have seen come back and some she has only had once. Example, eye blinking was her first tic at age 5. It came back at age 8 and has not come back since (not to say it won't). She just recently went through a very ruff tic where she would thrust her head out at an odd angle.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with ocd ever since I was a child. 6 years ago I found out I have Tourette's syndrome. I've seen a couple of good doctors but refuse to take any medication. My tics are being worse both vocal and motor tics and my Obssesvie thoughts won't stop. i can hear voice in my head saying and wishing that someone I love will get hurt, and then just to prevent this from happening I do the weirdest tics vocally and phiscially.
Avatar f tn s about 7months that I developed cervical tics (tics in my neck) - it occurs once per 2-3 minutes and I hearI hear a crackling sound simultaneously.I don't know whether it's a complication of MS or interferon?- does any body else have the same problem?is there any cure for such tics?
Avatar m tn Yes, one tic may disappear only to be followed by another. Be alert for any vocal tics - it is possible, but by no means probable, that the tics are signalling the onset of Tourette's Disorder (multiple motor tcs and at least one vocal tic).
Avatar f tn ve been reading about food allergies/intolerence to certain foods causing Tourettes tics...some claim the tics completely stopped after getting off dairy and/or gluten.
Avatar f tn I’ve started having tics in may 2021, I was 13 then. Now it’s been almost a year, I’m 14 and there still hasn’t been a single day without them. They often are embarrassing and painful. I’ve done some research and I might have Tourette’s syndrome, I’m not sure though. I don’t remember having tics when I was smaller it only started when I was 13. Is it possible that I could have Tourette’s?
