I recently started taking Abilify and am experiencing uncontrolled shaking and light-headedness. What are the side effects of Abilify and are these a couple of them. Should I try something else to help with my depression. THe Psych. said that this in concert with my prozac should help me out.

to advise on the side effects of the medications that they are prescribing. It could very possibly be the Abilify side effects, or it could be your anxiety about starting a new med.... If you don't see a let up in symptoms within the next few days I would call your pdoc back and let them know you're having side effects... also, go to the website for the drug, it's a pretty good place to get the side effects, etc.....
Anxiety, headaches, and insomnia are among the common side effects reported with Abilify. Side effects that are not as common include hemorrhoids, gas, and ACNE. According to the side effects listed in the product information anxiety may be one of the psychiatric side effects... so if you had anxiety along with depression prior to being prescribed the abilify then it may be making it worse. This is definately something you should speak to your physician about. Is the doctor that's prescribing these medications a psychiatrist?
My daughter is currently taking a combination of depakote, lamictal, and abilify for a mood disorder. However, her doctor feels the overwhelming problem with her is an anxiety disorder that is not being addressed by the current meds.
The doctor wants to ween her off the lamictal completely and start her on klonopin wafers. I am concerned about the "drowsiness" side effects. Do these eventually go away?
Just the thought of it gives me anxiety. I spoke with him about it agian, my concerns with side effects and my questioning if I really do need it even if I rarely have manic episodes. He thinks I do.
I see him in two weeks so I need to start taking it. I am contemplating on going to a teaching hospital, perhaps UC Davis, a place that specializes in the study of bipolar.
i was on abilify for a short time but i took it with another medication as well. My side effects were mainly just super groggy and it actually made me more depressed. I know for me they were better alone as a downer. If i was having anxiety issues they would help me calm down quick. I no longer take them because they just make me spaced out and groggy.
I was originally DX with major depression/anxiety. Also have ADHD. Meds were Zoloft, Adderall. Had two major depressive episodes on that combo. Abilify 5mg was added and the sun came out. Was later DX with BPII. ALSO, after 8 yrs on Abilify, had unexplained weight gain of 15-20 lbs. in spite of good diet, reg exercise. Now weaning off Abilify due to wt. gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!
The irritability and moods is a common side effect of taking antidepressants, any of them, depending on the person, and more so with the more stimulating ones. Abilify is a drug with a lot of side effects and not a great record of success in trials, and was approved only when all other antidepressants hadn't worked. But some have found it a useful drug to add a small amount to another drug that is working but not completely.
