Abilify off label

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify off label

abilify

Avatar f tn I just started back on Abilify and ambien (temporarily for sleep) after being off meds for 10 days. I am taking 10mg which is an increase from the 5mg that i was on. I was experiencing psychosis, paranoia, anxiety, and sleep deprivation. I'm not sure how my mood was at the time. When i went to my psychiatrist he mentioned Schizoaffective disorder but did not diagnose me with it.
Avatar m tn ve been on almost every antidepressant and off label medication known to man (and woman). My main diagnosis is generalized anxiety disorder, with depression being secondary. Generally, my depression is low level, like yours (Dysthymia), but there have been times in my life when I've experienced a major depressive episode. Anyway, I HAVE tried Abilify with Effexor XR. I had to stop taking it because it gave me restless leg syndrome. I couldn't sit still.
Avatar f tn The mood stabilizer I take Lovaza is an anti--cholesterol medication that is used off label for bipolar. The use of it is still experimental but some psychiatrists (especially psychopharmocologists who specialize in how medications work) will prescribe it. As its not specifically approved for this purpose they are just learning how it works. Generally the more common mood stablizers (lithium, Depakoate, Lamictal) are used first.
12043143 tn?1423151465 Also a psychopharmacologist is a type of psychiatrist who is a medication expert and would be familiar with all known options including medications that are FDA approved but used off label for bipolar. At all times work with any treating psychiatrist and work within their guidance before changing or adjusting any medications you are taking.
Avatar n tn I tried to stop taking zoloft and abilify about three months ago. I tapered off the zoloft and stopped the abilify cold turkey, per doctor's advice. I had mild side effects for the first month and then totally crashed. Needless to say, I called my doctor in desperation and was represcribed both medications. I feel much better, but am still very serious about stopping the medications sooner than later.
7773352 tn?1394065574 Latuda should be weight neutral, and I think Geodon tends to be pretty good in that department.. Lamotrigine definitely is (unless you're REALLY special). I think most of the anticonvulsants are, with depakote being the exception rather than the rule. I think some people take metformin (a diabetes drug) with atypical antipsychotics, and it might help with the weight gain. I think it's an off label use though. Abilify is weight neutral for most people though.
574118 tn?1305135284 Right now your Seroquel is an antihistamine. I just looked at the pi sheet, and the target dose for bipolar depression is 300 mg, where it should be less sedating than lower doses (the crazymeds.us wiki says above 200 mg is the cutoff for that one). 400-800 mg for mania. It's off label to use risperidone for the depressive side of bipolar, but if anything, you'd want to increase it, not decrease it. A Seroquel increase is probably a better thing to try first.
Avatar n tn Was hospitalized at Walker Art,Needham Mass to get satabilized..meds worked for the better part.He was recently taken off abilify 5 wks ago-the past 3plus wks he has returned to his behavior not seen since age of 7.Drs wanted to try him on triliptal which been on over wk now, nothing has improved more so worsened.
100019 tn?1335919717 For genotype 1 patients who cannot take interferon, the panel recommends sofosbuvir plus the HCV protease inhibitor simeprevir (Olysio), with or without ribavirin, again for 12 weeks. This off-label regimen has not been through full Phase 3 testing, but performed very well in the Phase 2 COSMOS trial.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn They all have reported feeling better daily - this off label approach is a God Send! Now I will finish out the 12 weeks - they will do the viral load test again at that time and then 12 weeks post treatment test again to declare me officially SVR!!! NO HORRIBLE INTERFERON OR RIBAVARIN THIS TIME FOR ME!!
1635208 tn?1300807160 Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.
1280947 tn?1278376332 You might want to talk to your Dr about getting off Abilify and trying some thing different.
1052851 tn?1307741160 htm Right now I have improved (as regards standard mood stabilization) with Lovaza which is in off label use for bipolar. There are an increasing number of FDA approved medications used off label as mood stabilizers but each person responds differently to each medication but its worthwhile to be aware of all available options and discuss this with your psychiatrist.
765828 tn?1306263868 I've been feeling really bummed out ... I recently added Abilify to my list of many medications and it has made a wonderful difference, but you know, nothing is perfect. Has anyone tried Abilify in combination with anything else and had success? Or not? What cheers you up when you're really, really down? When I'm down, I'm down. There's no getting me up - I just lay in bed feeling blah, which is of course, natural. But still, things used to cheer me up.
918275 tn?1254068752 s an anti-epileptic drug used off-label to stabilize bipolars, usually pdocs prefer to start with antipsychotics, and abilify is the latest good luck

1806584 tn?1316208037 Hi, I'm bipolar I and have been on antipsychotics for little over a year now. Within a few weeks I'll be tapering off Abilify with the help of my pdoc. I'm happy about it, but I still wonder what your experiences have been with lamotrigine (Lamictal) as a monotherapy for bipolar I. I'd really hate to get manic again, but I also feel that Abilify is holding me back in my studies. Any tips and suggestions?
Avatar f tn You are on a lot of meds. I was like that yrs. ago; way overmedicated and way overweight. I'm now down to 2 antidepressants and 1 mood stabilizer. (I am also a rapid cycler). Everybody is different and responds to medication differently. The best and most all-around useful mood stabilizer for me has been Topamax. It is an anti-convulsant, also indicated for propylaxis of migraines (which I also have). The great side effect, if you're overweight, is WEIGHT LOSS. Be careful, though.
Avatar f tn I would drive my other doctor insane because I would start the vicious cycle of feeling better, coming off the meds, feeling bad, going back on the meds...coming off....oh it went on and on...BTW, that's bad to do....going on and off psych meds. I was in just shy of 35 when I gave into the idea that something REALLY was wrong and I needed to deal with it head on. I had just got a new job a year earlier and I thought I would try out a new psychiatrist. This guy is good.
Avatar f tn Three of my friends went off of it with no problem. I went off of it gradually with no problem, but I never did it the way you are doing it. So please talk to your doctor. And BTW, why did you first take the Effexor and why are you trying to get off of it? 300 mg is a very large dose.
202665 tn?1248806733 http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm Its worth it to discuss with your psychiatrist what medications they would prescribe and if you have tried all the options they would consider ask for a referral to a psychopharmocologist or mood disorders specialist. When I was depressed I had this feeling as well but as research continues they are developing safer and more effective treatments and there are many options that are available now.
Avatar f tn http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm If your psychiatrist is not familiar with any other medications it might be worthwhile to ask for a referral to a psychopharmocologist (as they are medication specialists)but there is definitely more out there that might work.
Avatar f tn I happen to take 4.5 mg. of Klonopin and 90 mg. of Cymbalta -- this combination of drugs has worked for me for a good number of years. In December my Doctor did increase my Klonopin by .5 mg. because I was just diagnosed with kidney cancer -- which did cause a wee bit of anxiety (cancer free now - thankfully - going on four months now!). The increase worked pretty good. I also have Ativan as PRN. If I happen to begin to get anxious, I can either swallow or place one under my tongue...
