Common Questions and Answers about Abilify medication drug

abilify

Avatar f tn Seroquel is an anti-psychotic medication. Yes, in most people it does make them very sleepy. 14 hours a night not abnormal for someone taking Seroquel if they are sensitive to it or new to the drug. May I suggest asking your P-doc about Seroquel XR. It is an extended release formula of the drug and should be easier for you to tolerate. Many people report that after switching to the XR formula that they can take it during the day once they get used to the drug.
Avatar f tn I'm confused -- either your insurance pays for the medication or it doesn't, they don't pay by the dosage. So either you're saying your doctor switched you to a different drug or I'm very confused, and I'm also confused as to why your doctor wouldn't taper you down very slowly knowing how difficult this drug is to stop taking or lower the dose of. As this is a generic drug it's hard to see why it wouldn't be affordable even without insurance.
Avatar n tn I went off Seroquel and tried Abilify and one other (cant remember) but they did not work. I am now backon Seroquel 300 miligrams along with my Lithium and Pexeva. I feel like it doesnt work as well as it did the first time. I went up to 450 with Seroquel, but I am just way too sleepy. Does anyone know a drug that works well with Pexeva and Lithium? My biggest problems are racing thoughts and anxiety when I am off of the Seroquel. Help!
603015 tn?1329862973 It can often happen from a day of not taking medication or lowering the dose. That's pretty much standard. Medication has to be taken as prescribed to get the results that are intended.
774805 tn?1235948571 I am on Abilify (Aust) it is not on the list anyone know what the US name is?
Avatar f tn This is complicated, especially since you haven't said what your drug history is. The first question to me is whether the Paxil was working or not. If it wasn't, then augmenting it with Abilify probably wasn't the best approach -- changing the medication would be. Of course, getting off Paxil is difficult. Generally, you augment a medication when it's working but just not quite well enough, or when nothing you tried worked.
642393 tn?1227032656 I went to the doc about an hour ago and he gave me effexor and Abilify i know nothing about it could you plz tell me about it? are they any side effects? Does it help and how long does it take to start helping??
Avatar m tn Hi! Abilify has been a life-rescurer for me. I've taken drug at some point. Abilify quite frankly saved my time & evergy. I had been in therapy for years & nothing helped. Well for Zyprexa, which made me gain sever weight. I wouldn't want anyone to go thru that hell.
Avatar f tn Yea, Abilify is actually just another anti-psycholtic medication, but it is marketed in a much different way. Abilify has been marketed in a very agressive way. So has Pristiq and Cymbalta. All drugs that I have found not to work for me.
Avatar f tn I have been recently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and am currently taking the medication ABILIFY..... i have noticed lapses in my memory and difficulty concentrating. Also i can't shake the lethargy either. I am just concerned with the quality of my life because the side effects of my medication are really affecting me. The reason i have continued on this medication is becuase it is one of the only antipsych medications approved for adolescents according to my psych doc.
Avatar m tn First, have you ever sought out therapy before going to medication? There are many relaxation techniques that might help, and the only cure is to learn to think differently, so have you tried any of that first? Second, Abilify is a drug approved for severe depression that hasn't responded to any other drug.
4592241 tn?1359813138 My point was to be careful about what you put in your body, I'm not against antidepressants at all. The above is my personal story and as I stated each individual is different. That said here is a link to an article about abilify and its 30% rate of causing diabetes after long term use. It's not a joke it's Forreal and to be taken seriously. It also has other serious side effects like the ones I experienced. http://www.glopc.
Avatar m tn google "drug drug interaction" and you will find options for checking medication interactions....i use one of these sites regularly and some allow you to set up your own medication profiles. good luck!
Avatar f tn After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall. He mentioned that he thought I continued to have issues because of the Prozac but did not officially give me a diagnosis. I immediately saw the benefits. However, at the end of 2016 I went through a severe bout of depression and discontinued the Abilify.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever tried Lithium, Trazodone , Abilify all together? If so how has this been for you?
1499921 tn?1308446605 However, after that first month you’re less in a state of control. At that point I seem to see that true benefit of the drug is in effect. Abilify is less helpful after the first month. My Adoptive father says that, "no psychotic drug will fix you, but it will give you the ability to fix yourself" I see that to be more and more true by the day while watching my brother. The bottom line you need to do the work the drug can't do it for you.
3248163 tn?1354847640 You can also try calling the the makers of Abilify. Many drug companies will help you if you call them. Also everyone's body reacts to drugs differently and I have tried many. I take Lithium and I don't have any side effects. Have been on it 4 yrs. I did have side effects at the beginning that took 2-3 weeks to go away but they did and it has been fine for me ever since. Try the websites above too. Also some Mental Health Clinics will dispense certain meds, they may have Abilify.
Avatar f tn I imagine some of this is marketting by the drug companies as Abilify is twice the price of Seroquel. To those who have switched from one antipsychotic to Abilify how did you find it worked comparitively. To anyone who is on it, would you suggest taking it? How has it helped you? I ask because I am on Ziprexa (Geodone in the US) and it causes me some agitation.
202665 tn?1248806733 That is a tough question. I think it depends on specific drug or chemical that you're taking. For example, Vitimin C only lasts for 24 hours and only up to 100% daily recommended dose is effective. You just pee out the rest. On the other hand, a drug like marajuana lasts in your system for about 2-4 weeks, if I remember correctly. I remember when I was on Abilify it took about 1-2 weeks. Those are just some that I remember off the top of my head.
Avatar m tn I tried Abilify with my antidepressant. After a few months on Abilify, my anxiety was actually worse. I noticed that the Abilify caused me to be agitated and restless (like I couldn't get confortable or sit still, kind of jittery) Abilify is really ment more to aid in the treatment of depression than it is anxiety. It's designed to be used as an antidepressant add on drug to give a bit more antidepressant punch rather than an anti-anxiety punch. Bad idea I think.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know much about the drug Abilify? I have been taking the lexapro for a few weeks, and not sure that it is the right drug for me. About four days after I started taking it I felt really stranged, confused, depressed. I started the med for anxiety/panic. Not feeling as bad now, but still alittle down. I took lexapro a year ago for just about a month, but did not have this side affect. The dr said we could either change antidepressants of try taking .5 of the lexapro and 2.
Avatar f tn I take 24mg suboxone daily. Iam bi-polar and was prescribed pristiq and abilify, after i went on the suboxone, which i did not tell the doc i was on. I took my first dose of the meds, the abilify and pristiq, (which i had been on before) and got deathly ill, for about 6 hours, then i felt drugged until the next day. I have not tryed it again. Iam only on the suboxone, but i want to get off of it, it has changed my life for the better, in every way, except the cost.
Avatar f tn (have been on said meds for about 5 years). her 2 suggestions are abilify and ziprasidone--i know nothing about either of these meds and would greatly appreciate any info. and input you may have. (i have until friday to research these meds and want to be as informed as possible) thank you very much in advance for your time.
552011 tn?1239333219 I am currently taking 200 mg Zoloft per day. 5mg Abilify. 300 mg Doxipin, 12-1800 mg Nurontin and 10 to 20 mg of Ambien, and 1-2 mg of somethinf to relax me. I have 2 questions. 1st, with all this antidepressent medication why am I still walking on the edge of life and death. I have way more dark days than light onesl 2nd. i feel like I am drowning when I take all this medication. I feel like I have fluid on my lungs and I get really short of breath.
Avatar n tn However, I do not know for sure that it is the abilify, but since it is an antipsychotic drug, then the nature of the drugs has weight gain as a side effect. The probem is even if it is the culprit in the matter of my weight gain, people around me said that I seem more calm with it and not as nervous as I once was. So because it might be benefiting me a little, I would like to stick with the medicine as long as I can find something that will counteract the effect of the weight gain.
202665 tn?1248806733 So, my pdoc mixes in yet another drug in my ever growing cocktail - Abilify. The plan is to start taking this to better control my hypomania and depressed states when they happen since the lamictal doesn't seem to be doing it. She's asked me to use the Abilify at night in place of the lamictal and if that works, replace lamictal all together - no change to the cymbalta or lithium. Does anyone have any information on Abilify - has it worked, any side affects, etc?
Avatar f tn m on Abilify too and my pdoc said that it is a blanketed warning required by the FDA because another medication in that class caused a few pre-market study participants to have raised blood sugar levels. He said it's not anything to worry about. If you feel better having your sugar checked every couple months, have your doc write an order for bloodwork. there is 1 test they do called an AC#### I donm't know the numbers but your doc will and it tests your overall blood sugar.
