Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar f tn Okay so my doctor has decided to take me off of abilify but now Im having headaches. Is it because of the abilify and not being on it? Has anyone else experienced this? They are excruciating at times and I can't seem to rid myself of them. Ive put in a call to her office but no return call as of yet. Im just curious if the headaches are related to this because I wasn't having them until I went off the abilify as of last week.
Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of CampralĀ® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

Avatar n tn My mother also has Alzheimers and took Abilfy for almost a year. It was like we had fast forwarded 10 yrs into the future. She was uninvolved in any activity or even a conversation. This once vibrant, bubbly, outgoing woman had turned into a shell of herself. No emotion. Nothing. I took her to numerous docs. One "Alzheimer's Specialist" psychiatrist even increased her dose of Abilify. She didn't show any sign of improvement.
Avatar n tn I recently started taking Abilify and am experiencing uncontrolled shaking and light-headedness. What are the side effects of Abilify and are these a couple of them. Should I try something else to help with my depression. THe Psych. said that this in concert with my prozac should help me out. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
1742269 tn?1315381633 I take Abilify and it works very well for me. It pulled me out of the last bit of depression. It is covered by my insurance but the cash price is about $700 a month. It is pricey. If it wasn't covered by my insurance I would not be able to take it. I would call my pharmacy and ask if it is covered before asking for samples. If you can't afford to buy it then it doesn't matter if it helps - you won't be able to take it. Hope it's covered by your insurance.
Avatar n tn I would talk to your psychiatrist firmly and tell them that this is unacceptable. I was on Geodone and it was keeping me from being suicidal but otherwise wrecking my life due to fatigue. I had to lie to my psychiatrist about a symptom to get switched to Abilify and although I don't recommend that course of action, I feel a world different. I have a life again. And I am not recommending any one drug, just to try something different or something lesser.
Avatar m tn I recommend these doses. I would like to know side affects of abilify..ie sex drive, sense of humour, weight loss? And can I use paracetomels with this mix? And green tea slimming pills? I have a drink at the weekends which seems to be ok. A few bottles of wine.
712802 tn?1274645485 My doctor gave me abilify but also warned me it could cause impulsive nerve action of throwing your head back. Permanent? I don't know. Not even going to risk it.
Avatar m tn My Doctor prescribed me Abilify as an enhancer for my Paxil/Xanax cocktail. Long story short, I was taking 2mg of abilify once a day. Recently My Insurance decided they were going to be the Doctor and my funding for the Abilify ran out. I am not going to pay $543.00 for meds can't afford it and think that price is ludicrous. So now I am in cold turkey wean from Abilify. I know that I won't die from this, I know that my anxiety will increase big time.
918275 tn?1254068752 I take 20 mg of Abilify and have found it helpful in both controlling my psychotic symptoms and in giving me more energy. What other meds are you on? Another medication I take as a mood stabiliser is Lamogitrine (Lamictal) really helps to guard against the depressive side of the illness.
Avatar m tn it seems to be working for some things but I was on 2mg but that caused more movement disorder instead of less like it should of. Abilify is an antipsychotic and antidepressant so it does have the potential side effect of EPS and TD and so on. I was just wondering if the rocking bit was akathesia or something. The rocking I'm pretty sure isn't caused by my mood because I wasn't even feeling anxiety like I usually feel at the time of it happening this last time at least.

Avatar n tn You sound like a very concerned and patient husband, I can only suggest you book yourself an appointment to her or another physciatrist so that you can understand what is going on and come up with a plan of action with or without her for her own sake.
Avatar f tn Abilify can be used to augment antidepressants such as Lexapro. I use Lamictal to augment my Pristiq and it works much better than just the Antidepressant alone. Combining SSRI's or SNRI's with mood stabilizing drugs such as Abilify or Lamictal can often help a lot. Although they do take a good few weeks to kick in. In the past I have taken just about every drug you mentioned above, but I am supprised that your doctor has never tried you on an SNRI such as Effexor XR or Pristiq.
Avatar f tn my doc suggested Abilify to add. I had already put on 30lbs from lexapro, which is part of becoming depressed again. I have been on the Abilify for 6days now & can tell it is having a positive impact on me. I have had enough motivation to work out the past two days & I am really watching what I'm eating. Has anyone here had success with losing weight on Abilify & prozac? I really cannot afford to put on more weight & feel worse about myself.
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
1255530 tn?1269867619 Yes these would be side effects of concern. Abilify and the related SDA antipsychotics can at times cause heart irregularities. Having trouble breathing (potentially) and having stiffness in your neck or back could be due to temporary movement disorders (if dystonia is left untreated a person could have trouble breathing, for that reason its best to have a side effect pill with you at all times, check that with your doctor).

We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Avatar m tn Who knows? All three of these drugs target at least in part the way the brain processes serotonin. The Zoloft is an ssri, and solely targets serotonin. The other two target other neurotransmitters along with serotonin. The possible danger is getting serotonin syndrome, which is an overdose basically of serotonin.
Avatar n tn Weight gain, a change in metabolism and the potential of diabetes can occur with all atypical antipsychotics, Abilify Fanapt and Saphris having the least of that potential. Sometimes a change in diet can be helpful but it is a concern.
